#1 spellblayde Oct 05, 2009 10:17:19	Okay, one of the thigns that I have noticed is that the campaign setting release tends to match the new power source released in the PHB: Primal for Eberron, Psionic for Dark Sun, etc. Well, if WotC continues with the Elemental power source (and doens't pull a psionic monk on us), could Abeir be released in concordance (even if it isn't released in 2011)? For those unfamiliar with this world, The Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide alludes to Toril being a twin of Abeir.  The Primordials got Abeir and the Deities got Toril. Since Abeir has been introduced, is already heavily connected to elemental entities, and has some areas of Faerun thrown into it, what do you all think of this possibility?

Can I see WotC doing it?            NO Why? 4e desperately needs a brand new setting IMO (something better than PoL anyway), but there are so many fans crying out for Dragonlance, Ranvenloft etc. etc. etc. that I think Wizards will probably do what they can to give the fans of these what they want in 2011 rather going for something new.

Id love to see an Abeir source book, but thats too tied in with Forgotten Realms. That was more a 2e thing, were every "new" setting was tied in with the Forgotten Realms. Still it would be nice to see some Dragon articles or something. I think it makes a nice "DMs do what ever you want" zone as well.

As I recall, the actual writing of the books starts taking place about 18 months pre-release, so them knowing what book is coming out 20 months from now is not really out of the question. Honestly I'd be more suprised if they didn't have a campaign settings planned out a few years ahead.Campaign setting choices should have at least a slight impact on their choices of what to and what not to include in other products.
#6 alphasquirell Oct 05, 2009 20:46:42	I think we're getting the unknown campaign setting that came in second place to that contest that Eberron won. They bought the rights to those top few, correct? I bet we'll see the 2nd place setting, tailored to 4e, in 2011.
#7 TiwazBlackhand Oct 06, 2009 17:46:30	Yeah, I see Abeir being part of the Forgotten Realms setting.  I could totally see it getting it's own book at some point (in a year or two when they start needing more material to pad out the release scheduel) but I can't see them doing it as a "Campaign Setting" for the year.

Oh, I'm pretty sure wotc already knows and has already done a rough draft of the important aspects of the future setting. I doubt they can create a completely new set of books within just a year, all the while, re-writes are happening, additions, removal of content and so on. Even with dozens if not hundreds of people all working on the same projects. You also have to remember that the new settings are not the only projects being worked on. They work on tons of new stuff, all at once.

#11 darkdiashi Oct 09, 2009 11:38:04	How is primal appropriate for Ebberon?  I know next to nothing about that setting but what I do know paints it as a magic-techno world (with the techno fueled by elementals.) What am I missing?

Sure there are airships and the lightning rail, but they are horrendiously expensive, and only go to a very few places. Second, there are vast tracts of land where the closest thing to 'civilization' is that 3 building 'town' that is 3 weeks away. Then you have places like The Shadow Marches, Droaam, and so forth, where there is a strong connection to the land. Those places would be where you can find the most primal classes.   You should really take a look at the campaign book to see just how diverse Eberron really is.
