| #1norsegodFeb 28, 2011 5:51:00 | I am looking to see if WOTC is going to create markers or cards for the various combat states that exist. It would be far easier during play to put a marker beside your counter/miniature or on your sheet to show things like Slowed, On Going Damage, Dazed and the like. Cards could work too as the company has created cards for other aspects of the game. These would be better than alot of writing and erasing of states from your charater sheet. |

Gale Force Nine has created tokens of the sort you speak of. For as cheap as some printer ink, an alternative is to use these tokens I made for my home game. The images & text are being changed and updated as I get feedback from my players, so these aren't the "final product" as it were. They should print out as a 7x7 block, and if you need duplicates, an image program is your friend. ![]() |
| #3norsegodFeb 28, 2011 6:32:12 | Have you (or anyone else) used the Gale Force 9 tokens? Are they worth getting? I like the counters you created and they seem to cover a whole bunch of stuff I have not even read about! I just have the 4e Essentials stuff (DM Kit, Monster Vault and the 2 Hero books) but have not read through every different character type. I take it some of these effects/states are character specific ones? |
| #4KalnaurFeb 28, 2011 6:39:21 | Have you (or anyone else) used the Gale Force 9 tokens? Are they worth getting? Indeed, some of those tokens are meant to indicate battle states and common features for classes. I have not used the GF9 tokens. I prefer to put my art degree to work. ;) |
| #5norsegodFeb 28, 2011 7:04:42 | Lacking an art degree, I think I will print off your art work! lol I think I will look into the GF9 stuff too, but it does seem a bit on the pricy side. I went to their site and saw they have individual token sets as well. I would take it that WOTC would not bother to create their own when these exist already unless they went the card route instead. |

As far as I know, the GF9 ones are "offically licensed". So, as offical as things are going to probably get from WotC |
| #7JhariiFeb 28, 2011 8:07:14 | I have the GF9 tokens. They're okay. A better solution, particularly if you use magnetic dry erase boards, is to print to card stock and glue to magnet disks (bought cheap from Wal Mart). Or print to magnetic sheets. |
| #8Alter_BoyFeb 28, 2011 8:31:49 | As a DM for Encounters, I was given a sample pack of them and they're very popular. One week, I didn't bring it and my players asked me to bring it the next week. Unfortunately, the promo I got is missing some important ones (EX. Dazed), so I may get some more. |
| #9mondragonFeb 28, 2011 11:59:56 | Have you (or anyone else) used the Gale Force 9 tokens? Are they worth getting? I use them for my games combined with minis. They are a great addition to the game and the players love them. |
| #10robertread3Feb 28, 2011 13:02:16 | i just cut out some colored pipe cleaners and made them into little rings i put around the mini |
| #11HoundstoothMar 02, 2011 3:55:00 | I have the GF9 set, they are okay, honestly I like it most for the box, but the tiles are good. They do take up ajacent squares and for that when a few conditions and bloodies tokens stack up they tokens are less than. |
| #12ah_stormbringerMar 02, 2011 4:34:31 | I have seen the GF9 set and they are not bad but the idea of a card or cards that you could be given to the player and put beside his/her sheet is not a bad one. I like this idea. |

MY GOD are you that incapable of just making something on your own? Here's what you do, you go to the hobby story, buy a sheet of polystyrene plastic card, and with a knife and ruler, you make a whole great big bunch of 1/2 inch x 1/2 inch squares and then you write anything your heart desires on them. As they are plastic, they are next to indestructible too. If you use colours of marker, you can make them colour coded to player too. |

| #15Tony_VargasMar 02, 2011 14:42:54 | Have you (or anyone else) used the Gale Force 9 tokens? Are they worth getting? Yes. They're quite good-quality, accrylic with a felt base, so they're durrable, sit well on a battlemat (not sliding or sticking too much), and they're fairly apealing and easy to tell apart. There are also counters that are blank but for 'status' or 'ongoing damage' so you can write a custom status or amount/type of damage in wet-erase on them, very convenient. Some of them are just head-scratchers, though. Like, there are dead-body tokens, and 'concealment' (huh, for warlocks maybe?). There are marked but not 'cursed' or 'oath of emnity' tokens. The set sells you a modest number of tokens and an empty wooden box with some partitions, and a felt lined lid you can theoretically roll dice in. The box is unfinished - a little 'golden pecan' subtley perked it up without obscuring the liscenced 'Dungeons & Dragons' logo. We've also used the cardboard counters that came for Encounters, and the chunky square plastic ones (different colors, with conditions just printed on them in block letters - can't recall who make's 'em). I prefer the GF9 counters. I've also seen/used counter sets that are colored magnetic disks you stack up under the character, tiny magnetic 'flags' you stack on a tiny flagpole next to the character, those tiny colored elastic bands girls use to put up their hair, and, the ultimate in ghetto gaming accessories: plastic rings scavenged from soda bottles. The thing about any of these is that they clutter your battlemat. Sometimes you end up just handing the player the token or putting it on the sheet where you're tracking monster hps, to reduce the clutter. At that point, you might as well just write a note next to the hps... |
| #16KalnaurMar 02, 2011 15:45:02 | So, how many people would want cards to hand their players that tell them what they are currently effected by? I can totally use the images from the tokens I made to generate cards. |
| #17norsegodMar 03, 2011 16:03:49 | I would be all over the idea of condition cards actually. I just used the character generator for the first time and am very pleased with the cards that print out with the character sheet. As I am playing with younger folk (my sons) as well as older folk these cards make it easy for them to keep track of what they can do. Handing out condition cards would work great for them I think. |
