160-page book with rules for character creation, game rules, and an adventure
2 sheets of die-cut character and monster tokens
2 double-sided battle maps
Cardstock character sheets and mutation power cards
Mutation power card deck
Loot power card deck

**
Mostly I'm wondering about the "Cardstock character sheets". I suppose they might be supplying some ready to play characters. And maybe a blank sheet.

we don't get much GW info-. Has anyone got more information?

I can't see myself buying cards just to get new powers.

Agreed, but I don't think that kind of comment belongs on this thread: which is asking for info about GW not opinions of GW.

Then you play with the powers given to you in the game box.  Others will come and will either use the base powers or they will buy cards to get others.  Either way it doesnt effect you in the slightest.

Putting collectible cards in an RPG is one of the worst mistakes Wizards have made in sometime. They are trying to get people from there two largest sellers( Magic and D&D ) to buy the same product. If as I ahve read that GW is a test bed for bringing 4th edition into other genres this is a bad idea. I will not buy it because I hate the idea of having to buy cards to get the powers I want. They should have just made it an rpg and left it at that but I think Wizards is getting desperate for our money and will do whatever they can to get people from other types of games to buy it even if it is not in the best intrest of GW.

@ Mith. By not buying it, this will send a message to wizards not to put cards into an rpg again and if they are smart the best way to get this threw to them is not to buy the product. Hit them in the bottom line, that hurts big business the most and they might listen.

Only time will tell if the new Gamma World will be successful.  Personally I'm looking forward to it and hope it will be.  The game, as it stands now, sounds very appealing to me.  I am enjoying the random aspects they are trying to create which reminds me much of the original set I had.  Many of the reasons people have stated for disliking it are the exact reasons I do like it.  Especially the cards.  For me they make expanding the abilities in the game very easy without buying another book where the only thing I may be interested in is the abilities.

I am quite looking forward to Gamma World, and I think it will make for a very fun side game.  As mentioned, why not play with just the cards included with the set?  As far as additional cards go, are they meant to be kept by the individuals that buy them, or are they meant to be added to the decks that everyone will draw from?  There would be a difference between buying some extra cards for the group and inciting individuals to buy extra cards to get some powerful loot or mutation.

Strand0: Sorry I don't have any further information on the game to contribute.

I could be wrong, but it was my understanding that future power cards were not going to be random collectible cards ala Magic, Yu Gi Oh, Pokemon, etc.  More like Martial Power in a deck.  Please correct me if I'm wrong.

When last I checked, a few months ago now, future power and gear cards will be released in the same general style as MAGIC cards: collectible randomized boosters with better/stronger cards being rarer.

I had heard the opposite.  And unfortunately my search-fu was weak and I couldn't find anything official on them and there's nothing in their catalog currently in terms of booster power cards. (that i found)

I don't have the inclination to sift for official info, but this is info gathered (as of Feb 3rd 2010) by another interested party.  In the link it says:

  • Gamma World will have 120 booster cards available in randomized packs of 8 per Pack.  MSRP $3.99
    • 120 card set, 8 card boosters for $3.99 for more mutations, tech cards, and player “personal deck” cards.

Everything I have heard is that the booster packs will be random, which sucks. People will have to spend alot more money that way and the game will loose players because of it.

If you actually would look at the system in its entirety, the random boosters make sense for the SETTING, where random mutations are the norm, in the panel at GenCon, it was specifically stated that WotC fully expected to have people NOT try and collect all of the sets, and to merely buy a pack here and there to add to the randomness of the game, but that the game could be played without going out and purchasing the boosters without losing anything.

While that has been said, it is not entirely true.  Rarer cards will likely have better powers printed on them.  By virtue of simple logic, this means people spending more on the collectible cards will have the opportunity to draw better cards from their personal decks during play (the likelyhood of personal decks appearing for each player was mentioned in official-dom).  These facts lead to a situation where people who spend more to get rarer cards will be more effective in the game than those who do not.  For any rpg, that's a deal-breaker for me.

Who says the rarer cards will be more powerful - perhaps there is only one rarity level for cards?  Or only two like some of the early magic sets?
Alternately  maybe the rares are just STRANGER than the commoner ones, ones you don't necessarily want multiples of in a mutation deck?

Or the whole thing might dissuade you from wanting too many copies of the same mutation.

In the end the DM can dictate what cards are in their player's mutation decks, or request that all cards be added to a communal deck that all players access so no one player gets exclusive access to powerful cards.

Boosters are like crack.  The profitability of boosters lies in "the comeback", which is severely undercut if there is more than one tier of rarity.

Have they even mentioned a rarity level for the cards.

I heard of different card types like powers and equipment and so on but not a rarity level.

That would be kind of important wouldn't it?

Having said that, although I'm buying the first gamma world box I'm not buying any boosters. If I want more cards I'll create my own.

Are random mutations the norm?  I never played it that way and the 1st edition GW has random as an option not the only option.

Unfortunately I have any more info about the component list.  I did hear that a Gamma World novel is comming.
