#1 stormonu Feb 16, 2009 13:13:30	I just happened to pick up a D&D calendar (it was discounted, so why not?). One thing that struck me as odd was that it was missing (at least) one piece of information I think that D&D lovers would really enjoy. Release dates for upcoming products for the year. I think it would be a great selling point for the calendar to have a little "Releases this month" blurb somewhere on the calendar, and if it were feasible, the actual day it comes out (Probably impractical, but since I'm wishing...). Oh, and whoever thought up the "1 square = 24 hours", brilliant :D

#3 Ramien Feb 16, 2009 16:21:39	I'm not sure how practical that would be, considering how soon it would have to go to press, and considering the latter parts of the year may not have their releases set in stone, and almost certainly wouldn't have their art set yet.

I think this is precisely the problem. Otherwise it wouldn't be a bad idea.
#5 vebrandsson Feb 16, 2009 17:37:31	If you haven't caught it yet you will find that even the main site now has Dungeon Delve set for a march release. Its set backs like that that prevent such a thing from being done. That and they didn't till some time earlier this month I think add the releases for december this year, they simply hadn't planned over a year ahead.

It's not that the planning isn't done that far ahead (in fact, it probably is), it's that even the most careful plans are sometimes at the mercy of the unforeseeable, like economic conditions both chronic and acute.

Art would be nice, but my bet would be most of the time they would, at best have a mock-up of the art (for example, Amazon.com still shows the Monster Manual 3 art mock-up, not the actual art on the book)...maybe concept art, which in of itself would be nice. Still, from what I understand most releases are planned at least one year in advance. They might not be able to include the entire schedule for the year, but it would be an incentive to buy the next year's calendar early (the one I got was an 18th month calendar, starting with Sept 2008 and going to Dec 2009 - I'm assuming it was put out around Sept of 2008).
#10 doctorhook Feb 19, 2009 0:28:46	The real problem with D&D calendars which showed product release dates would be that when something was delayed, renamed, put on hold, or cancelled -- and it happens to every company -- their mistake would be on wall calendars around the world, reminding D&D fans every day for a month at a time of something that WotC wasn't able to deliver. There's a lot of potential for poor consumer relations with such a calendar, as handy as it might be. This idea might be workable in some nonstandard calendar format...
