#1 Davane Jul 18, 2014 6:57:21	I was just wondering how likely it would be to get the core rulebooks of the classic D&D editions released on DnDClassics.com?   I know that the focus is on 5th Edition, but I am interested in the core rulebooks for earlier editions, as well as sourcebooks, since I am interested in learning how the various systems and settings evolved over the past 40 years.   I am not a grognard that thinks that OD&D, AD&D, or even D&D 3.x are the best editions ever - but I do appreciate the skill and creativity that went to developing these rule sets, and I would like to let my players experience how the various editions, and the worlds they supported, have changed over time.   I feel that this will give even new players a deeper appreciation of the current edition, when they can see the roots and the gameplay of the original.   I, personally, like how the original D&D system was broken in to Basic, Expert, Companion, and Master sets, allowing people to not only learn the rules at their own pace, but to tailor the gameplay to the level of the game.   DNDClassics.com only has the Basic and Expert sets of OD&D (B/X), and the Basic set of OD&D (BECMI). Although they also have the D&D Rules Cyclopedia, I would like to see what the Companion and Master sets individually added to D&D.   I would also like to see what the differences between OD&D and the various editions of AD&D were, as well as the differences between AD&D 1st Ed. and AD&D 2nd Ed.   Finally, is there any chance of getting the original, first printing, of OD&D on DNDClassics.com? There is currently a copy of this set enshrined in the Children's Museum at Bethnal Green, London, which would now be 40 years old. Unfortunately, this hallowed tome is trapped behind perspex, and not availalbe for perusal by the public.   Please, please, PLEASE, can you put these key milestones on DNDClassics for everyone to enjoy. Sure, I own physical copies of most of the core rulebooks myself, but not everyone will already have them if they are looking into content from earlier editions.   I don't want the focus on the future of D&D to result in abandoning the influences of the past 40 years. I hope D&D, as the iconic Roleplaying Game, continues for another 40 years, and newcomers will be encouraged to check out previous editions as well as the latest edition, if only to appreciate just how far the system and settings have evolved over this time.
#2 Torg_Smith Jul 18, 2014 16:50:00	People have been asking for the core books for a year and a half. They have not released them and have said nothing about them. The only thing WotC has said about the PDFs was January 2013 that they would release their entire back catalog on DriveThruRPG. They have said nothing else other than letting us know what would come up the next week a bunch of times.   I have always assumed that back catalog meant all books released before January 2013. They have been silent ever since.   Prior to pulling the PDFs in 2009, they had the core books up. I am kicking myself for not buying the 2E and 3.5E books then. They did have the original tan booklets in PDF then as well.
