| #1aoirorentsuAug 27, 2010 10:20:02 | Hey out there in D&D land, Sorry if this thread is in the wrong category, but here goes: I just saw online an unboxing of the new Red Box. One of the things I was unexpectedly interested in is the new one-sided character sheet - it seems like it might be a more at-the-table-reader-friendly experience. I was wondering if anyone has seen it or if there's a picture/pdf of the new sheet online, if anyone has heard of plans to create the new sheet for the character builder, etc. Thanks! Aoi |

There is not enough room to list all of your feats at end game let alone that the powers are supposed to go in the same 2 x 2 square. Yeah, they aren't quite suitable for higher level play. I love parts of the layout, though. The skills being under the related ability score is awesome. I might scan it and make a custom version for higher levels. Gotta see if they ever put out a Win7 driver for my printer first, though. |

Keep in mind however, if you've got it, the essentials came out with power cards. As such, technically there is no need to list half the stuff on the sheet. My CB sheets are single pages, not counting the cards which we started cutting out, then started losing, and eventually left as a unified page. So, my 10th lvl fighter is 3 pages, 1 of stats and stuff, then two of cards. |

Really? Where did you see it? Anyway, back on topic...I personally like the new one-page sheet. It seems more organized. |

Does the download contain the same errors? I don't see passive insight or perception on the downloaded sheet. It appears to me to be identical to the one in the box. |
| #11aoirorentsuSep 09, 2010 10:40:34 | Yeah, I figured the passives would be good info for the sheet, but sadly they're not there. Also, I've always been kinda confused about why there's an attack workspace on the sheet - outside of melee and ranged basic attacks, every power is at least a little bit unique in their damage and effects. Moreover, with the advent of power cards, I'm not sure why they even bother to list generic attacks that'll most likely never be used on the sheet. That's just me though, maybe others have had different experience. I do think that giving more space for feats and class/path/destiny features would be a better use of the space, though keep in mind that flat bonuses (such as from expertise) could just be included in the places it impacts. I think the things I like most about the new sheet are: 1) having the skills under their corresponding ability scores, 2) having the gigantic notes column on the right-hand side, 3) the three-column breakdown of abilities/skills, combat stats, and character info. 4) the generic "wealth" section - what's so good about an empty box, you ask? Some of us like the new "Favor" rules from Dark Sun, or the new random Essentials treasure system that may have you end up with an art object. It's a neat way to visually organize the information. More generally, the sheet is effective because it is easy to spot exactly the information you are looking for at a given moment (mostly be the three-column organization and the "behind-the-scenes"-izing of the math). The things I don't like about it are as follows: 1) the lack of dedicated space for class/path/destiny/racial features (as it stands one'd just stick it in the powers and feats section, I presume?). 2) the "powers" box - again, why do I have this when the box could not possibly fit the full text of the power? Power cards FTW! 3) the little descriptions (ie, what the different action types are, what intelligence means, what speed means, etc - good for the red box, less so for people who know what they're doing), 4) having two full lines for languages (seriously, how many characters take the Linguist feat?); would be better spent having a space for paragon path and epic destiny - just sayin'. Just a little analysis. Any thoughts? |

| #13MarandahirSep 10, 2010 10:01:47 | Notes and Powers/Feats boxes would better be used spacewise switched. That said, 1-page sheets are nice, and I'll be printing a bunch of these for new players. |
| #14labwreckSep 13, 2010 14:13:06 | Since I have Adobe Pro at work, I switched the Notes and Powers/Feats boxes and added to more rows for paragon path and epic destiny. Also, I decided to use some space in the character notes to add Passive Perception and Insight. |
| #15GazraSep 14, 2010 20:00:22 | I made a modified version of the sheet that covers levels 1-30 with room for everything, including even backgrounds and themes. Let me know what you think in the thread so I can improve the sheet. Advanced Essentials Character Sheet |
