| #2greatfritoSep 07, 2010 8:55:51 | That was... kind of a major disappointment. Don't get me wrong, Gamma World looks entertaining (and very much so), but it's sad that this "X and Beyond" preview mostly pointed at existing previews for other products. Uh, good job, I guess? |
| #3ShroomySep 07, 2010 9:16:00 | What!!! It's just not Gamma World to me unless humanity launched all of its nuclear missiles at once at some alien invaders only to have them turned back against us! Just kidding, though I thought it was kind of funny that they ditched the nuclear apocalypse backstory for our current batch of non-religious, end of the world scenarios (though it will certainly date the game in 2013 and once they actually turn on the Large Hadron Collider and nothing happens). Dire Corbys? |
| #4Black_Knight999Sep 07, 2010 9:20:32 | The LHC is already running (though not at full power). I think sometime this year they're going to power it up to 14 TeV. |
| #5greatfritoSep 07, 2010 9:31:21 | I don't think the background dates it in any negative way - at worst, it will become (silly) alternate-history. "The LHC destroys the world(s)" doesn't strike me as a particularly more ridiculous divergence than "The Confederacy wins the Civil War." The second is perhaps more plausible (unless they do it with the help of AK-47s and time-travelling Afrikaneers - man I love that book), but hey - it'd still be Alt-History/Sci-Fi. |
| #6ShroomySep 07, 2010 9:49:23 | The LHC is already running (though not at full power). I think sometime this year they're going to power it up to 14 TeV. That's what I meant ![]() I'm not saying the dating is a bad thing, just amusing given the currently apocalyptic climate. Its no more silly than the GW 3e backstory (I think it was 3e, its the only one I own from the mid 80s). The mishmash of alternate timelinse/universes also increases its potential portability to more traditional D&D settings (for example, I loved Steve Townsend's idea of using material from Gamma World in Oublivae's Abyssal realm of dead civilizations, the Barrens). |
| #7melloredSep 07, 2010 10:12:01 | Except it could of been the LHC is another universe that did it. And that universe could easily be a years behind. |
| #8ricksouthSep 08, 2010 9:21:40 | Dire Corbys? Have you ever been to Corby? Its like the apocalypse already happened. |
