#1 Marandahir Jul 11, 2010 23:58:23	Excerpts Dark Sun Campaign Setting Introduction to Dark Sun Eight Characteristics of Athas Today, we start the official for-everyone previews of the Dark Sun Campaign Setting!  Today, we look at eight characteristics, something done with Eberron before, and given a little peak of to Insiders months ago.  So let's get the ball running!  Friday: Chapter 1: The World of Athas. Talk about this Dark Sun preview here.
#2 commissar Jul 12, 2010 0:16:16	This is the same intro that those of us lucky enough to score a copy of Bloodsand Arena have already seen. Seems like a solid introduction. I like that the very first point goes into the variety of terrain types of Athas, so that you can't come away thinking that it's merely sand... on top of more sand. Nicely done. I can't say I'm pleased about the WAR art. He's obviously a talented guy, but I just don't like his aesthetic. I'd much rather have Brom! He's still around... I think he's even in the Seattle area. Come on, guys... he doesn't charge that much does he?

#4 Marandahir Jul 12, 2010 0:27:19	This topic?  Because I didn't read theirs.  And if you're referring to the information, this information's been out for quite some time now, but now it's for everyone. On a slight tangent, there's a link to an Abyssal Plague character.  Interestingly enough… the characters from The Abyssal Plague and the follow-up novel feature the Essential class kits.

#6 Mock Jul 12, 2010 7:51:07	Wow. That is a copy/paste of what some of the guys on the Dark Sun boards have made.  Technically, the boards were a copy/paste from the Dark Sun primer put out for Encounters, I believe.

That is a copy/paste of what some of the guys on the Dark Sun boards have made.  *blink* No it's not.  That post on the Dark Sun boards is a copy/paste of the material given to us in Dark Sun encounters...as the person who made that post specifically pointed out when someone said that he/she made a cool intro (something to the effect of, "I wish I could take credit for this, but it's just straight up copied from the Dark Sun Encounters intro").
#8 ascottbay Jul 12, 2010 9:11:15	The primer in one of the stickies is pulled from an older article that featured "Athas In Seven Sentences." I was also linking to the Encounters primer hosted elsewhere (I personally don't like to do copy-pasta from things that aren't part of a non-subscriber article) but I've since replaced that link with this article. I like WAR. I can see that Brom is good, perhaps even better technique-wise, but I enjoy Mr. Reynolds' work more. Brom's work is the kind of art I might put on a wall, if I didn't find it so disturbing. WAR's work is excellent for book covers, but I wouldn't want to frame it.

That's what I was thinking.  If memory serves, were not Dark Sun dwarves hairless?  I don't think that's a Mul.

Muls tend to be taller than dwarves but still broad and heavily muscled.  They also, due to some weird reason, have pointed ears.  They are totally hairless.  Most dwarves have some hair up top, but rarely any kind of beard.  The gentleman in the picture strikes me as a shaven dwarf, but it could also be a rendition of Neeva and Rikus if it supposed to be a human and mul.  Personally I think it is a human and dwarf.

#15 Marandahir Jul 13, 2010 22:03:55	I like to think of Mul as a sort of like a short Goliath, if that makes any sense. The also happen to be half-human (at least in Dark Sun ).

#17 ADHadh Jul 14, 2010 8:22:21	Note that the guy on the cover is bending. He's taller than he initially appears, almost as tall as the woman. He looks very much like that Rikus bloke. I'd say that's a mul.
