Since there is not going to be a new class introduced and the area being covered is significantly smaller than other campaigns, such as Forgotten Realms or Eberron, the amount of information could be fit into one book. Also, this would allow them to do the creature catalog which will contain creatures more specific to Dark Sun. The original campaign setting had a lot of new and interesting creatures which may have been cut down on if they were included in a campaign book. |

After a couple of years of sales data, they've likely discovered that PHBs, Monster Manuals and Player's Guides sell much better than DMGs and Campaign Guides. In order to sell the most product, they've decided to focus on the type of books that sell more. |
