| #2Crimson_ConcertoJul 19, 2010 14:39:36 | Psionic Power - wizards.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wizards.cfg... That's extremely disappointing. The PHB3 did a really good job of making the Psion legitimately thematically different than just a Wizard with a different power source, but adding that astral construct crap in again just takes it back to where it was in 3.5. Psionic Power better give the Psion a precognition and ESP build too, because if I can make a psychic that can sculpt stuff out of ectoplasm before I can make a psychic than can see the future, we have a serious problem. |
| #3greatfritoJul 19, 2010 15:37:42 | While I don't have as much dislike for Shapers as a concept as Crimson (though I agree that I would have preferred them not be the first additional build option presented)... This isn't "shaping". It's not an "astral construct". It's a damn summon (with augmentation, woo?). I know an attempt to make the concept more like "normal" summoning was made in the 3.5 supplement (Complete Psionic), but there's no reason to run with it. ![]() The power here is a wizard (or other controller) power, with the "augmentable" keyword put on it. It doesn't even have any kind of psionic flavor to it. Blah. And bleh. And bleck. All at the same time. ![]() |
| #4mediumdJul 19, 2010 16:10:17 | I suppose that power is fine for Dark Sun, since some overlap between power sources is unavoidable. It'd feel a bit more psionic if the flavor text mentioned dreamstuff or ectoplasm, though. |
| #5sallaJul 19, 2010 16:12:08 | Yes, and giving druids summons made them just like wizards, too. I'm more annoyed that PsiPower is apparently considered a 'Dark Sun Preview'. Entirely because I've no interest in Dark Sun, of course. |
| #6Janx_14Jul 19, 2010 17:03:54 | Well, the invokers had summoning first in 4th, technicly everyone ripped off them :P |
| #7celticmuttJul 19, 2010 18:46:05 | The only new build for Psions in Psionic Power is the Shaper. There has been absolutely no info or hints that other builds will be included. I'd expect a Pyro/Cryo/Electrokinetic build before an ESP/Pre-Cog build however. ESP and Pre-Cog works best as rituals and utility powers, not attacks. |

Ravager from DC comics would disagree with you (and becareful she is crazy with a capital C...) looking into what your next move is she can counter it... |

I am a DC reader, if you couldn't tell by my avatar. Well ... okay, Chemical King has been dead for like 30 or 40 years (ie longer than I've been alive), but still!Anyways, I'd see Ravager's ability as a class feature or utility power, not as part of a specific attack power. I could easily see an ESP/Pre-Cog ability to replace the telepathy/telekinesis class features, but I can't really see making 13 levels of 3 - 5 attack powers based around it. I could see a Paragon Path or two though. |

to be honnest I could see a level 1-30 build for battlemind then for psion... |

I have absolutely no trouble visualizing a full 30 levels of precognitive and ESP-inspired attack powers, so I honestly don't understand what your hangup is with the idea, Celtic. Precognition/ESP actually have a lot in common with Telekinesis and Telepathy, the two current Psion builds, in that they're all relatively simple concepts that don't immediately seem to lend themselves to very much versatility, but you can get a lot of neat stuff out of them if you really get to playing around with the concepts. Now, I can definitely understand if you find it difficult to imagine how these precognitive-themed attack powers would deal damage, but not all attack powers need to deal damage to be great. Whole builds already exist around characters that never roll damage. I think that the precognitive Psion is a prime candidate for such a build. |
