| #1trulock1Aug 28, 2009 15:03:02 | Any evidence of this coming out? |
| #2GMforPowergamersAug 28, 2009 15:19:37 | yes they announced it at gencon, and had a huge banner up last week. If you look around you can see 'it's darksun' thread all over the place... |
| #3_Mithreinmaethor_Aug 28, 2009 15:23:07 | I think that the OP is wondering when it will be released. And I feel like he is expecting to see it soon.
But to the OP it will be next summer before it will be released. |
| #4trulock1Aug 28, 2009 21:29:26 | OY.....not what I was asking at all. THey anounced Darksun for summer2010. yadaada. They showed the scheduled release date for the campaign guide, however they haven't shown a players guide release. That was my question. has anyone heard anything about the Darksun "Player's guide". |
| #5MarandahirAug 28, 2009 21:49:52 | There will be a Player's Guide. Whether it's a month before (like Eberron) or a month after (like FR), we don't know. Be assured though: there will be a Dark Sun Player's Guide. |
| #6GMforPowergamersAug 28, 2009 22:30:41 | has anyone heard anything about the Darksun "Player's guide". what would lead you to belive they are changeing there patern? 1 pg, 1 cg, 1advewnture... |
| #7TectuktitlayAug 29, 2009 13:56:16 |
Yes, of course there will be a Player's Guide. They've repeatedly stated, ALL campaign settings will get a Player's Guide, a Campaign Guide, and an Adventure.
Why didn't they SHOW the Player's Guide? Because it will spoil the "new" races therein. Thus, it was a simple marketing decision to show the much more neutral (in terms of released info) Campaign Guide cover. It's just that simple. |
| #8trulock1Aug 29, 2009 23:45:31 | All things I've thought about. Just seeing if anyone had heard anything about scheduling. Wow. just wow. I guess I better lay down every thought I've ever had on the subject, or risk getting treated like an ignorant child. Back to lurking for this guy. |
| #9PennarinAug 30, 2009 19:44:01 | Dark Sun had not one but two 2e monstrous manuals filled with mostly good and original monsters, something not many other 2e settings could say. Sadly, the release of the three 4e core books - campaign, player, and adventure - won't come with a monster manual. So we'll get the few basic monsters they'll decide are essential, out of half a hundred, and leave to us the priviledge to bicker and whine over the validity of this or that monster conversion for years to come. 2e to 3e, 3e to 4e. It gets tiering fast. /sight Still, I'm happy for the release of anything. That much less bickering and whining over the basics, at least. |

Don't worry about them. No, there has been no announcement of the Dark Sun Player's Guide. Like the Ki Power Source, the Player's Guide for Dark Sun might not happen, even though WotC has said they planned to do it. I personally think Dark Sun needs it. Maybe some Utility powers to live in a world without metal or water? |

I wouldn't be surprised if a fair number of Dark Sun critters showed up in MM3 and/or MM4. |
| #12shadow_weaverAug 30, 2009 21:04:40 | They could decide to include a large number of Athasian monsters in MMIII without it being dedicated to Dark Sun. |
| #13GhostStepperAug 30, 2009 21:10:07 | Now that its been brought up, it would be pretty damn cool if third book for each setting was an MM instead of an adventure. You can never have enough monsters, IMO. |
| #14warfeindAug 30, 2009 23:22:03 | I hope they change the format for how they list campaign specific threats. I hate the way it's done in the Eberron CG. I like my bad guys all lumped together not spread all over the book. |
| #15jedi123Aug 31, 2009 7:15:43 | they do give you that hand reference in the back, with page numbers and everything. it's something. |
| #16Duke5150Aug 31, 2009 7:36:52 | I gotta agree here. I wish they would release campaign specific monster manuals. But I have every single 2e and 3e monster manual, so I can atleast do the conversions myself.
If we don't get the Athasian Nightmare Beast as a 4e monster in one of the books, I'm gonna lay an egg and mail it to wotc, so it hatches and eats all their cookies. |
| #17torielAug 31, 2009 13:03:01 | We will also probably see more Dark Sun creatures articles like the one in Dragon magazine a while ago. |
| #18bobiagoSep 01, 2009 15:33:45 |
Ugh. Please don't do this. The ECG was the most useful format I've encountered. |
| #19LordDreadmanSep 01, 2009 19:46:01 | Actually, to answer the OP, WotC has all but announced a Dark Sun Player's Guide. If you look at the announcement, interviews, or (I think) even the recent Podcast they have stated that they will be doing some strange things to character classes in Dark Sun. This clearly falls outside the scope of the Campaign Guide, since those are built for DMs. In other words, WotC has not specifically said to expect a DSPG, but the implications are there. Not only have they said that a PG will come with each Campaign Setting, but they have implied that they are doing wierd things with the classes. Anywho, I hope that alieves your fears. I, after all, am hoping to see Thri-Kreen in the DSPG, so it would break my heart if we went without one. Sincerely, |
