I heard once that "higher than level 30 play is beyond the scope of Dungeons and Dragons," however, as it happens in every editon, someone makes rules for advacing your character beyond the normal level limit.

Pondering this, I began to ponder what the new tier (level 31-40) might be called, and what the "prestige class" of that tier would be called. I came upon the idea of the "Deific" tier, with characters choosing their "Deific Domains" that would, combined with their class'es powers, eventually put them on par with the demon princes and eventually even the gods.

Then I smiled to myself and said "boy, wouldn't this be a fantastic topic to cover int he Deities & Demigods sourcebook?" Just because it no longer pertains to dragons and dungeons does not mean it is not D&D! XD

I actually seriously hope that WotC will stick to the level cap.

A decent amount of other RPGs out there set a maximum for things, and don't deviate from that... seems to me like that works out a lot better than an ever increasing, ever more difficult to balance level scheme.

Having a completely balanced 31+ game is not the point Aaron ;)

If there is a Deity and Demigod book, I hope it's only for deity stats.

Level 31-40 : Demigod tier
Level 41-50 : God tier
Level 51-60 : Arch-god tier

At the arch-god tier, the players begin the conquest of the far realms and ultimately challenge the Dungeon Master itself at the center of the multiverse. Hopeless fight... then the dungeon master decide to reintroduce the players into the matrix. :D

Yeah it would suck to have to challenge me as Dungeon Master because I never leave home without my personal defense pistol.

Fair enough, but I don't think going beyond the level cap will actually have any real effect on the rest of the game. I for one never played in many epic level games, and having the epic level material out there for others to use did not affect me or the balance of my adversely. I think 90% of games at least would still be in the 1-30 range. Going a bit beyond that range is fine IMHO.

My two cents.

Probably. I live in the south, so the only people with guns around here (besides the one in the safe that probably everyone should have) are thugs and rednecks.

or more probably the ones who look anywhere from an average businessman to an overweight black-socks-and-shorts tourist type who have taken the time and money to take classes on the legal aspects of concealed carry and lethal force use, and who then offered themselves up for a thorough background check, often including a picture of themselves and a set of fingerprints, and are subsequently issued a concealed carry permit.

Concealed means concealed, so you don't see em.

Level 31-40 : Demigod tier
Level 41-50 : God tier
Level 51-60 : Arch-god tier

Since Moradin, as one of the most high-up gods, is only lvl 38 solo, I think that even if the would release a deity book (which I fully expect at some point in the future of 4e) I still thing it would only cover lvl 31-40 and set lvl 40 as the new endpoint

31-33 demigod tier
34-36 lesser god tier
37-40 greater god tier

HHhmmmm...what does living in the south have to do with this? I lived in Florida and had a full carry. I knew several others that also chose to carry. I now live in NY and still have a full carry pistol permit. I don't see what the "SOUTH" has to do with anything.

20+ was actually fully supported in AD&D1e in the core book. The XP chart simply listed +whateverxp for each level after what seemed a random level as it was different in each class.

I actually started to convert the old Immortal Set and Wrath of Immortal handbook from 1E to 4E (I intentionally almost ignored Deities and Demigods because that was little more than a collection of ubersized epic feats). I stopped for a while, but I thing I'm going to finish it someday or another.
I kept all the original tires (Initiate, Temporal, Celestial, Empyreal, Eternal and Hierarch), cutting each one by a level so they would fit in a 30-levels model. I also kept Rank and Power Points, streamlining both (Rank works like level, it just add its full value to everything). I made Immortal a new race, the sole allowed to Immortal PCs (no panic - you can reproduce your mortal race's features, amplified, by taking the appropriate Privileges, wich are the Immortal equivalent of Feats). I wrote many Privileges for Initiates and some for Celestials and Empyreals. I also started to work on the Spheres (they are an Immortal's "class"), but I've yet to finish Energy and I'm following the alphabetical order. :D
Well, it's a though job. I hope I would finish it some time.

I'm hardly opposed to the idea of such a book, however i just cant see it being that useful for for the majority of people. That said it would a cool idea.

Guns are so far off-topic, it's not even funny. (It's also not really very funny to infer that you'd shoot your players.)

Drop it, please. This thread is about "Deities and Demigods", not "Stupidity and Second-Amendment Politics".

EDIT: It's not gun ownership or possession that bugs me; what bugs me is cavalier attitudes towards committing violence. This brings us back to, "Don't jokingly infer that you're going to shoot your players." It's not cool. That's really what I wanted to get across.

Glad we're all on the same page. No hard feelings?

I personally don't have any use for that high level of a campaign, however that said, the epic level still leaves a lot to be desired as far as power levels when thinking epic.

I'm from the old enough school where level 50 Rolemaster spells allowed you to instantly target anyone on the planet who even uttered your name (and then usually divine why they were talking about you), where you were a powerhouse of destruction though of in fear by anyone who would dare to challenge you, becoming a fount of magical power where other spell casters can call upon you to aid their spells from half way around the world...

I like 4e, but we need a truly powerful tier, though I wouldn't play in it, because I like more of the lower level stuff, I've got a buddy that would eat this stuff up.

*comment withdrawn, and no hard feelings*

Note: Forgive my ignorance of the particulars of the law; I don't live in the United States. I've edited my above post regarding concealed weapons, clarifying what I meant and removing the parts I didn't, so that I don't have to post another reply. It would be a show of good faith if you would edit your posts as well.

Wizardmon: Deities & Demigods 4E (as you have imagined it) might work, if you're cool with tossing balance out the window. I personally doubt WotC would publish that though; it'd be very far from their claimed intention for 4E, for them to release a product that was so potentially problematic.

Maybe a 3PP will make the product you want? I wouldn't rule out a 4E Deities & Demigods, but it'll probably not be like what you're suggesting.

Might make an awesome game on its own, though!
