DnD dice ,tiles and char sheets

Jul 19, 2008 10:50:46 Well, I got some of the new items yesterday.

The DnD Dice set comes in a pretty big spiffy box, but the dice were just normal blue dice. The dice bag was very nice, made of some kinda psudosuade material, embroidered with the dungon and dragons logo. (Red logo on a black bag). The bag has a draw string, not sure what material, but it's not leather. It's the normal size of a dice bag. For the price, I guess it's fair (most dice sets are around $8 so it makes the bag about $4) but I wish the dice were a little more spiffy.

The Halls of Giants Dungon titles are really nice. Lots of rooms, huge funiture, some pits, and halls are included. Totally worth the price: )
On a side note, a friend got 2 boxes of the Halls of Giant minis. The mini's were nice, but ,dang, mini's are expensive.

The DnD Char Sheets are kind of an iffy buy. I know some posts have some reviews below, but I will give my own take here. It comes with 4 char sheets. Some power cards. The best part, to me, is the folder. Very cool disign on the front. Dungeons and Dragons( red with gold trim) logo at the top right on the front of the folder. The illistration is a reprint of a 2nd edition picture that has four adventures fighting a green dragon. It looks really nice. The back of the folder has no illistration, but it kinda looks like the back of the folder is a back cover of a real book. The inside of the folder, left side pocket, has seven empty lines for you to fill out anyway you wish. The right side pocket has the level advancement from 1-30. It seemingly is just for one of your chars to go from 1-30. I plan on using it for RPGA, myself. The $10 price is a bit much for what you get.

Jul 20, 2008 17:51:39 Do the dice have the same cool sheen as the previous (green) Deluxe Dice, or are they more like the D20 that comes with the miniatures starter?

And holy crap, those minis cost way too much for me. One box costs half as much as a core book! I got one and wound up with a $25 giant tornado I'm never going to use.

The tiles are definitely quality.

Jul 21, 2008 3:40:20 I agree the tiles are awesome. The random "collectable" mini's are a terrible idea. We buy individual minis from reaper etc which we paint, and use colour counters printed from the Creature Collection CDs. I always end up writing up my own version of the character sheet. The official ones never seem to have enough room.

I'm making my own that puts the pertinent information on the front (like the powers, which we keep forgetting about because they're on the back of the sheet). The mathematical formulae for determining various things has been moved to the back, with only the final result showing on the front, and boy did that save space! I don't know anybody who uses the "character sketch" box, so I eliminated that as well. Most of the biographical stuff on the back went. It's not critical to gameplay. You should know your own PC's backstory, or just write it up on notebook paper and hand it to the DM to keep for reference.

I have so many dice that I rarely worry about what dice from a set look like. I have my drama dice and my death dice (and a set of 100+ year old d6 ivories that have been retired from play lest they get lost or damaged). The rest are just dice. My husband, on the other hand, has a set of swirly red dice that he keeps close by and that nobody else is allowed to use for anything. He says they'll get bad juju.

I don't know if I'll get the Giants tiles. I don't have much call for large furniture, not using giants much. I know they're a fairy-tale staple, but they just don't appeal to me much. What I wish they'd release is a set of tiles that is nothing but dungeon dressing. Chairs at various angles, tables, bunks, bookcases, trunks, rubble, coffins, corpses, etc. I could really use these.
