Aside from new powers (obviously), anybody have a clue what kind of new builds, etc.. are going to be in this book?

We know:
  • Vestige Pact for warlocks
  • New "Tome of Binding" implement mastery for Wizards, as presumably, new Tome implement
  • Familiars; any arcane class can get them

You should check out the Confirmed Compillation thread at the top of this forum for more!

There's the Summoner Wizard build...I guess the Tome of Binding thing is probably gonna be the implement of choice for a Summoner Wizard no?

I'm mostly curious to see what other builds they introduce for the Swordmage mainly, but also for the Sorcerer.

Has there been actual confirmation that Arcane Power will be supporting Swordmages?

I'd bet that Loremaster won't be in Arcane Power, because it (or something very similar) is in PHBII, as an Epic Destiny.
That's what my memory says from flipping through my new copy last night, anyway. Chapters Online for the win!

I would expect there will be a build that makes a swordmage less of a sword mage and more a whateverweaponiwantmage. Unless there is a feat that lets you do that.. Well, if not yet, I bet that will be in there if not a different build.

I kinda hope they do for swordmages what they did for fighters -- give some of the powers different bonuses based on different weapons. (I can hope, right?)

Though I generally don't like heavy armour characters, I feel that there needs to be some viable form of a heavy armour swordmage, since it feels odd the only heavy armour arcane character right now are Valour Bards.

Of course almost every arcane classes uses Int which boosts AC anyways, so most don't need heavy armour. Anyways I think a mentioned Swordmage build, was ensnaring.

As much as I didn't like wizards and sorcerers having to get familiars in 3e, I like the fact it's a feat in 4e. I always pictured some Bards as having familiars, which didn't quite work in 3e.

Should be lots of cools stuff in Arcane Power. Of course, I am positively biased, since we've already been told summoning and familiars will be in the new book, and those are two of my favorite aspects of Wizards.

I do hope there will be a paragon path dedicated to wizards focused in summoning. Given the inclusion of these new power types, I would be suprised if we didn't see something along those lines.

Well I just want more dark pact and infernal pact powers cause thats what Im using right now. And some non pact specific paragon paths would be cool as well.

I'd like to see a number of wizard powers that have kicker/bonus powers/effects based off the Implement you use, the way that warrior and some rogue powers have bonuses based off the type of weapon you use.

As of now, Wizards build choice class feature, Implement Mastery, has no synergy with their powers. Well, it does, but not the way I mean. I think you understand.

Like how Warlock encounter powers have a bonus if you have a specific pact, or some sorcerer spells have a bonus if you're specifically dragon magic or specifically wild magic.

I'd like to see Wizards get spells that have a bonus if you cast through an orb, or through a wand.

I'd like to see this as well. Of course, nothing restricts a wizard from using multiple implements, and just switching out different ones for different powers (hence all the "Master" wands for the At-Wills), but I think getting different bonuses based on implement beyond just the simple encounter ability picked at character creation would be ideal.

Right.

See, I envision a Wizard wielding an orb in one hand and a wand in the other, in the same way a Fighter could wield a Sword in one hand and an Axe in the other. You can use either one without penalty, so you use the one that's better in a given situation.

I'm guessing there might be something for tiefling bards that allow allies to use infernal wrath, going with the way martial power was with expanded racial options for certain classes.

can we expect two more sources of sorc magic? cosmic and ????????

martial power gave us two warlord and two fighter, only one for ranger and rogue.

btw, is anyone else thinking the cosmic power might come from galactus?

I think it is a given that there will be a feat for each class with a paragon multiclassing pre-requisite that will allow a minor class feature for each type

maybe something like:

Wizard - Cantrips

Warlock - Eldrict Blast At-Will Power

Sword Mage - Swordbond

Sorceror - Dragon Soul/Wild Soul

Bard - Skill Versatility

Uhh.. Big_Pete, you do know there is a feat that is called Jack of all Trades in the PHB1 right? It pretty much does what the Bard Skill versatility does, only better.

I'm pondering what the highest level Wizard summon might be. I think with Wizards they are more about summoning elementals and demons as opposed to the Invoker's angels or Druid's beasts.

Somehow I feel that a Balor might be too much even as a 29th level summon, but a Marilith or Glabrezu might be at that level. Since their attack sequences are simple enough to translate to spells.

perhaps but Skill versatility and jack of all trades stack

one is a feat bonus, one is a class feature....

Yes, I am aware of that, but you're suggesting a feat that provides half the bonus of another feat that does the same thing. which seems to be more bang for your buck?

It seems like a waste to create a feat that is accomplished more successfully by another feat. It's like how the swordmage feat Intelligent Blademaster is made obsolete by Melee training in PHB2, by being a feat that provides more of a bonus and wider appeal.

If a feat that provides a +2 balance and doesn't require paragon multi-class is balanced, isn't it a waste for one that provides a +1 and requires you to be multiclassed into bard. Which do you honestly think is going to get more use?

You could also argue that the rogue first strike benefit or the warlord's combat leader isn't that great compared to feats and abilities. The general idea of these paragon mulitclass feats is to allow minor class features of the second class. They certainly aren't dominant.

it was just a general suggestion off the top of my head, no need to get worked up about it

anyways, we will see what paragon multiclass feats are there in a couple of weeks.
