| #1evilholyguyOct 05, 2008 11:07:58 | my first thoughts... HOLY SWEET HELL YES!!! my question is who else can't wait? :D |
| #2ranadielOct 05, 2008 14:07:51 | Well I can since I've been waiting since it was first announced.....however long ago that was. And since I know this question will come up if I don't say it now, the new chromatics are purple, brown, and grey. |
| #3NivedOct 05, 2008 14:18:32 | Where'd you get that information? |
| #4TectuktitlayOct 05, 2008 16:29:32 | Where'd you get that information? It was in the second-to-last WotC catalog released to retailers (the Fall 2008 catalog; the most being Spring 2009), in the selling point blurbs, so the info's been out there for some time now (4+ months). |
| #5crystal_blueOct 05, 2008 16:31:19 | Where'd you get that information? if you look at his sig he has all of the sources for all future product info in the thread linked there. As far as I can tell his source is an enworld forum post, but unfortunately the enworld forums do not seem to be working right now. Here is the link in case it comes up again. LINK |
| #6kalanthOct 05, 2008 16:33:21 | While it will be nice to have them, I am likely going to do what I did with 3.5 and editions before that. Buy the book, read it through, and then stick with the traditional colors. It will take a lot of willpower to just skip to the end of that process because I don't want to waist the money on the book. Not saying that it might suck or that more dragons does not rock, but I never end up using these suppliments after I buy them so better just not to buy it. |
| #7ranadielOct 05, 2008 16:39:22 | if you look at his sig he has all of the sources for all future product info in the thread linked there. Yeah it was an ENWorld post that had all the text from one of the WotC catalogues. In the text for Draconomicon I it made mention of the three new dragons being purple, brown, and grey.....and now I'm really tempted to start keeping track of the wording in my compilation thread in addition to the source itself. Unfortunatly that would take a lot of time I am lacking at the moment. ![]() |
| #8Swordsman1612Oct 05, 2008 22:11:08 | More Chromatics?? ![]() Does anyone know when we're getting the metalics. I'm planning on running a Dragon encounter for my players and story requires a Bronze dragon. My plan, so far is to run a Blue Dragon with some re-fluffing. I was kinda hoping to get something else from Draconomicon. |
| #9ranadielOct 06, 2008 6:13:23 | More Chromatics?? Metallics should be in MMII. |
| #10jdhartucusOct 06, 2008 9:06:17 | I hope they have something of a PC dragon progression like the last one. That was alot of fun. |
| #11apollyonschosenOct 06, 2008 17:14:41 | What would really be awesome>? Put the rest of the dragons in Draco2 so i dont have to buy three or more books to equal the original! Let's not get greedy Wizards! And please not another "year of the dragon" although i own all of those 3.5 gems, like "Dragons Who Like Soup" and my personal fave "Dragons Of Friday". |
| #12viktor_von_doomOct 06, 2008 17:16:32 | Blah, the less I have to see of the Mettalics and the more I see of the Chromatics the better. The Mettalics need a image uplift for me to be even remotley interested in them. |
| #1310_Foot_PoleOct 11, 2008 16:53:55 | I don't really think we need two more chromatics, mostly because I can't see any real gaps left by the current chromatics. I don't mind seeing a section on dragons as PCs, but I'd rather it be fairly small, since it would be better to cover that kind of info in a Dragon Magazine, along with re-introducing Io's Blood Isles. What I'd really like to see is more Dragonborn feats, PPs, and even maybe an ED that allows a Dragonborn character to adopt some more draconic abilities. I'd also like to see some info on how the dragons ruled Arkhosia, possibly with some magic items, artifacts, or dragonborn equipment. My hope is that the book isn't just a rehash of 3e's Draconomicon. More dragon/dragon-type monsters is good, but I really want something new options for my PCs. |
| #14ranadielOct 11, 2008 18:32:58 | I don't really think we need two more chromatics, mostly because I can't see any real gaps left by the current chromatics. Don't worry we aren't getting two new ones. We're getting three new ones, purple; brown; and gray!:P And I wouldn't count on there being any PC options in the book, as the current expectation is that this is a DM book like Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting. |
| #15arnall_penatrattonOct 14, 2008 15:11:26 | I wonder if Tiamat will get three more heads? |
| #16ranadielOct 14, 2008 15:20:02 | I wonder if Tiamat will get three more heads? Considering it didn't happen when new Chromatics were introduced in 3rd or 2nd edition, I wouldn't count on it. |
| #17DuskweaverOct 14, 2008 15:35:27 | I can't see any real gaps left by the current chromatics. Since all the blues apparently migrated to the coast for 4th edition, we currently have no desert-dwelling chromatic dragons. That's a gap. |
| #18theblackwingOct 14, 2008 16:44:08 | The Brown dragons in the 3E Monsters Of Faerun book were desert dwellers. I'm really hoping that the 3 new dragons are in fact updated incarnations of the dragons in Monsters of Faerun and that they just changed the names to [Color] Dragon, to match with the other main 5 chromatics. Brown = Brown Dragon Purple = Deep Dragon Gray = Shadow Dragon I'll keep my fingers crossed. |
| #19doctorhookOct 14, 2008 21:03:42 | The Brown dragons in the 3E Monsters Of Faerun book were desert dwellers. Shadow Dragons will almost certainly be Planar Dragons (a Dragon-Family in 4E, like "Chromatic" or "Metallic"). I mean, Shadow? Shadowfell? Come on. :P |

| #21BelorinOct 24, 2008 18:17:55 | The Brown dragons in the 3E Monsters Of Faerun book were desert dwellers. The Draconomicon excerpt for the Brown Dragon is up and it is a revised FR brown dragon and this one looks awesome! No stubby little wings here, and it's big thing is it's motivated more by it's palate than it's desire for treasure, it craves exotic tastes. Bel |

Actually, as per another thread on the topic of the brown dragons, they are actually updated and renamed sand dragons by appearance. I'm not too familiar with sand dragons, so I don't know if they are mechanically similair or not. Edit: Here are the images for comparison. |

We're getting three new ones, purple; brown; and gray!:P It's a pity that chances are against new PC options in Draconomnicon. I agree that it's unlikely, if there were going to be any then it would have been mentioned in the book's blurb. It would be nice to see some feats for Dragonborn that adapt the breath to be more like those of the Dragon's in the MM... adding AC damage to Acid Breath or ongoing damage to poison breath. But the Dragonborn already have quite a few breath related feats so i suppose more may just be overdoing it. I still crave Dragonborn wing feats. |
| #25azrael_macoolOct 25, 2008 23:38:52 | I believe the new Metallic Dragons are Iron, Mythril, and Adamantine, or something to that effect. I remember Iron for sure, and I defeinately remember one of the other two...oh well, whatever. And, from what I understand, the "core" Metallics will be Gold, Silver, Bronze, Iron, and whatever, leaving Copper and Brass for the next Draconomicon. |
| #26Titanium_DragonOct 26, 2008 0:31:49 | Unless this book is a backdoor Council of Wyrms campaign setting, much as I love dragons, I can't see myself really making much use of it. I bought the 3.x Draconomicon and felt it was the worst D&D book purchase I've ever made, bar none. |
| #27Cyber-DaveOct 26, 2008 0:33:59 | If you play a Shadows of the Colossus style game its probably a useful book. |
| #28sigil_beguilerOct 26, 2008 0:35:02 | Unless this book is a backdoor Council of Wyrms campaign setting, much as I love dragons, I can't see myself really making much use of it. I've got my subscription so I probably won't buy it since the crunch which is most important for me will be in the Compendium. |
| #29McShamOct 26, 2008 1:11:17 | More Chromatics?? I'm pretty sure (like 90%) that that bronze dragons are gone, as in no longer in the game. Don't recall where I read that but I remember it was an official source and I remember it because I remember feeling all butt-hurt about it as they were my favs. |

And, from what I understand, the "core" Metallics will be Gold, Silver, Bronze, Iron, and whatever, leaving Copper and Brass for the next Draconomicon. Worlds & Monsters tells us that the "core" (MM2) metallic dragons will be, in descending order of power: Gold, Silver, Copper, Adamantine, and Iron. I'm pretty sure (like 90%) that that bronze dragons are gone, as in no longer in the game. Don't recall where I read that but I remember it was an official source and I remember it because I remember feeling all butt-hurt about it as they were my favs. Worlds & Monsters also suggests that Bronze and Brass dragons will appear in a future supplement, IIRC. Look for them in Draconomicon II: Metallic Dragons (sometime in 2009). Since we're getting three new dragons in Draconomicon I: Chromatic Dragons, we might also get three in Draconomicon II. Since we know that there will be Brass and Bronze dragons, good bets for the final dragon would be either Steel or Mithral dragons, which (AFAIK) have both appeared in D&D in the past. Anyway, don't worry McSham! You'll see your favorite dragons again! (Have you read "Storm Dragon", by James Wyatt? A bronze wyrm figures prominently in that book.) |
| #31fiendish_dire_weaselOct 26, 2008 12:53:19 | What may make the difference to if I buy this book or not is the inclusion of a Draconic Pact for Warlocks. This may be the only thing to motivate me to buy the book. Anyone know if this is where we'll see it? |

| #33fiendish_dire_weaselOct 26, 2008 12:57:58 | Probably not as it appear to be a DM book and not a player's book. I agree, I'm not terribly hopefull. I was just considering the possibility that they include enough stuff for players to make it appealing to increase sales. As-is it seems to have a limited audience. |
| #34alitainOct 26, 2008 13:49:23 | Alright, so I was going to ask what people thought all the new dragon's type or abilities would be. Brown dragon's seemed to have been answered, and honestly that was what me and my friends were thinking would happen. We were thinking the purple may be necrotic in nature, or more storm elemental based. And then the grey would be possibly stone or more general earth based. Though there's the brown sand dragon to consider. Just thought I'd see what others thought. |
| #35space_dragonOct 29, 2008 12:18:39 | I wonder... With the new fluff, each type of dragon seems to be the embodiment of some element or concept. Chromatic dragons are natural environments, like forest, ocean, or mountain. Catastrophe dragons are powerful, natural events, like earthquakes and hurricanes. Scourge dragons are human afflictions, like war, poverty, and plague. Planar dragons represent facets of the cosmology, like the shadowfel and astral sea. I wonder, what will each type of metallic dragon represent? Since they are being reflavored as "civilized" dragons rather than neccessarily "good" ones, perhaps they will embody different aspects of society? Capitalism, nationalism, religion, etc? Interestingly, this would make them natural enemies of the scourge dragons (who embody those things that ruin civilizations), much as chromatic dragons could be seen as the opposite of catastrophic dragons (natural order as opposed to natural disorder). So, will gold dragons be "valor" or "justice" dragons? Will silver dragons be "mysticism" or "monastic" dragons? Thoughts? |
| #36tall_maxOct 29, 2008 12:59:28 | Space Dragon, if you aren't right in your assumption I would be a bit shocked. Seems spot on! |
| #37ssvegeta555Nov 06, 2008 15:27:30 | my question is who else can't wait? :D Eh. *shrugs* |
| #38DuskweaverNov 07, 2008 9:33:24 | Eh. *shrugs* Did you just dig up a thread that's been dead for over a week, purely to show how much you don't care about the subject of the thread? Because that seems slightly perverse... :P |
| #39turalisjNov 07, 2008 11:13:27 | I don't mind seeing a section on dragons as PCs, but I'd rather it be fairly small, since it would be better to cover that kind of info in a Dragon Magazine, along with re-introducing Io's Blood Isles. The less they put in DDI the better. I personaly will never pay into that. $35-40 a book is enough money spent for me. |

The world preview book that they released said that Iron and Adamantine will replace the two 'Alloys' I think Copper is a base metal, so that would mean the Mettalic Dragons in Draconomicon 2 is Iron, Copper, Adamantine, Silver, Gold. (They also said that Iron would be the metallic equivalent to the White dragon) I am pretty sure we wont see Bronze and Brass for a while after the 1st 5. |
| #42doctorhookNov 08, 2008 9:30:26 | The less they put in DDI the better. I personaly will never pay into that. $35-40 a book is enough money spent for me. So, wait... because you don't feeling like buying a product, you feel that product should also include fewer things to make it worth anyone buying? That's ridiculous. Does your decision include the fact that a recent ENWorld thread determined that, among DDI subscribers, DDI was considered the best value for money spent on 4E products? $60 for a year's access to the rules from EVERY 4E book and 200+ pages per month of brand new content is a way better deal than $40 for one book. The world preview book that they released said that Iron and Adamantine will replace the two 'Alloys' I think Copper is a base metal, so that would mean the Mettalic Dragons in Draconomicon 2 is Iron, Copper, Adamantine, Silver, Gold. | #43turalisjNov 08, 2008 10:17:37 | forget it -_-; |
| #44doctorhookNov 08, 2008 19:56:23 | Did I say that? No. I said I wont be using DDI. My group doesn't bring their laptops to the game sessions, nor do we use 4e at all. The only time I play 4e is online and even then DDI would be a waste of money. ![]() ![]() |
