Wizards are running animated online banner ads for Dragons of the Hourglass Mage, with the Dragonlance logo being much, much more prominent than the name of the book or the authors. Didn't see that kind of marketing for the latest Salvatore book.

Those hoping Wizards are building up to an announcement at Gencon that includes the words "Dragonlance", "Campaign Setting" and "2010" take it how you will.

Well, that's skip two books 2010 and hopefully Dark Sun 2011 then... Good that I also have the old Planescape boxes!

ok this is just my desire talking

I played 1st ed DL and honestly I don't think it would be the best choice as a 4th ed campaign setting

I hope for something like "Pirate of the Astral Sea" that would nicely tie in with the PH3 and the Plane Above products

but this is just my desire

I hope not, that would be silly. Dragonlance is totally playable in 4e already. What would they do, release a player's guide that says nothing but

"KENDER - on Krynn, halflings are referred to as Kender. See PHB.

DRACONIANS - on Krynn, dragonborn are referred to as draconians. See PHB."

The whole book would be nothing but things like that. Literally all you need to play 4e Dragonlance is a 1e, 2e, or 3e campaign guide and the 4e players handbook. And maybe a supplemental Knights of Solamnia Paragon Path.

Umm, you do realize the same could be said for ANY of the campaign settings, right? FR could just as easily been played without a PG, just a few shoehorns here and there. Same goes for Eberron (which, surprising, required LESS shoehorns than FR did).

I'd say you can reflavor about just any setting with such general affirmations.
I can say the same about Dark Sun, which is a meh... setting for, played enough of it from 2nd Ed, no thanks, I'll have my DragonLance, to each his own I guess.

The thought of Dragonlance coming out next year makes my heart go pitter patter. But I don't remember any FR's or Eberron novels getting that treatment a year before their campaign settings coming out.

I think it's just they think this novel is worthy of a big push.

Still it certainly doesn't make it less likely either. Go Dragonlance go! Show the naysayers what you can do!

This year is the 25th Anniversary of Dragonlance. Dragons of an Hourglass Mage is the final book from Tracy and Margaret, and is being released this summer. Banner ads and media attention are devoted to the setting for those reasons, not because there will be a campaign setting or game product released next year (on the 26th anniversary, for what that's worth.)

Cheers,
Cam

This. The advertisement stuff is big support for the 25h Anniversary.

It's entirely possible a campaign setting for next year would be announced during the 25th Anniversary. But even if that were true, it's the advertisements and campaign setting that would point at the 25th Anniversary. Not the advertisements and 25th Anniversary pointing at the campaign setting.

(extrapolating into a metaphor, it's like, we've been given wood, pointing to the big bonfire this year, and trying to pull the existence of a campaign setting out of that is like trying to say that wood + fire = fuel used to make the fire bigger; you can say "wood + fuel = fire", but the presence of fire does not necessarily justify the existence of either previous, or something like that)
