There were two 4e versions (chromatic and metallic) released in 2008 and 2009.  I think you can get both on Amazon.  No word on a 5e version.

I imagine you'll eventually see one. 2nd and 3rd editions both had a draconomicon. and I suspect every new monster manual will have a new dragon type.

I am wondering if they are going to go the route of Monster Manual II, PHB II, etc.  If each AP gets a support book (with new monsters, subclasses, spells, and races), it seems like there is a better chance that more than one book per gaming group could be sold.  Instead of PHB II selling a lot of copies annually, you get 2 or 3 AP support books selling a lot of copies annually.  That doesn't bode well for the dragonomicon, as we already have a dragon-themed AP, so I imagine elementals, undead/shadowfell, underdark/drow/demons, and feywild (not to mention AP's to reintroduce some settings) that a lot of people would want to see before we get another dragon-themed one.
