DU dungeon tile sets - restock?

Jun 13, 2011 13:48:16 I can't find dungeon tiles such as Halls of the Giant Kings or Streets of Shadow anywhere. Does anyone know if they'll be restocked? They are 4th ed products. I appriciate the essentials tile sets has some overlap with them but there are some tiles in the previous sets I'd like to own.

Jun 13, 2011 18:26:02 As unfortunate as it seems, Dungeon Tiles don't sell well enough for Wizards of the Coast to keep them in print for 3 years (which is about how long it has been since those sets came out).

Looks like some copies can be found for sale for under $100 (saw some as low as $35), which is surprising when it comes to gaming materials... usually it seems like sellers are under the belief that gamers will pay whatever they ask for "rare" gaming products.

Jun 13, 2011 23:36:59 Actually, I'd say that Dungeon Tiles is probably one of the best selling lines for D&D (it's editionless and good for any fantasy RPG). However, it's probably more economic for them to reprint tiles in future compilation sets than to bring back an old set. WotC has to pay for the printer, and making a new set ensures more sales than bringing back an old one.

OP: Sorry about the Halls. It came out with the 4ed Core Three, and everyone bought it.

Jun 14, 2011 2:07:50 I picked up a set of Halls of the Giant kings for less than £10 from Amazon recently.

Several overstocks sellers seem to get some of the older tile sets in occasionally and sell them at a reasonable price. They're often listed as being 2nd hand despite being sealed. You need to keep checking as they don't last long usually.

Now if I could only get hold of some reasonably priced Dire Tombs or Arcane Towers.

Good luck there, the few 3e ones around cost even more than the 4e ones.

I think all the tiles from Streets of Shadow are in Dungeon Tiles Master Set: The City, and most if not all of the tiles from Halls of the Giant Kings are in Dungeon Tiles Master Set: The Dungeon. The City doesn't contain all the tiles from Streets of Shadow. They left out the rooftop tiles (by making the lid look like rooftops) and put in some new waterfront tiles and empty buildings instead. I have thought this to be a mistake. For a basic "essential" city set, I think rooftops tiles would have been more useful than the waterfront tiles. A full set of waterfront tiles by themselves would have been a good expansion set.

The Dungeon is a pretty good basic set. I haven't done a comparison with earlier sets, but I believe it contains several tiles from the original Dungeon Tiles (1st set) with a few other tiles cherry picked from other dungeon related tile sets.

The Wilderness, however, contains the six tiles found in the Ruins of the Wild set plus four other tiles with original layouts.
