What do you think this is? Art look familiar?

It appears to be an adventure, but it's not lettered and the street pricing is higher than usual.

I seem to recall hearing that it is a bunch of delve style adventures(which I assume are slightly smaller then regular adventures) in one book.

The art is a nice FU to the foreign markets that said it was too controversial.

It doesn't appear to be an adventure for the reasons you stated, but it could be the first 4e superadventure. I'd bet against that, though, as the title is too generic. It's probably a splat book. The original title for Adventurer's Vault (according to Amazon.com) was Magic Item Compendium I. Maybe the names for the MICs will be more colorful, and this is the next in the series.

It isn't an item book, if that is what you are suggesting, because Adventurer's Vault II was announced as coming out at a later date next year.

That's exactly what I was suggesting, and I didn't think to look for when AV2 was coming out or what it was going to be called. I just threw that our as speculation. I really have no idea what this book will be based on its title and cover art. The gang over at ENWorld usually has a finger on WotC's pulse, so maybe we should look over there for an idea.

I wonder if that's really the cover. Here on WOTC's own site it's listed without an image yet.

I don't think it's an adventure, because it's a Hardcover, and I remember reading that they liked the folio-style for the adventures they have released so far (but that of course could change). I bet it is more of a compliation of small adventures, as was posted above.

The artwork is familiar I believe because it was showcased as the artwork for one of the Core books, way back when.

That was the initial art for the Player's Handbook. But some forign markets, eastern europe IIRC, said the Tiefling looked to demonic so the art was changed.

Personally I hopes its a guidebook for new DM's on designing dungeons. Now mind you most DM's don't need that book, but I bet most of my dungeons back when I was in junior high and highschool (90's) would have been a lot less cheesy and ridiculous if I had a book like that to help me understand that "there needs to be a reason why there is an owlbear living in an old tomb that is mostly filled with undead... and goblins. Speaking of goblins, why are those scardy-cats living in a tomb with undead... and where to they "live" in the dungeon" and that sort of thing.

This. It says as much in the WotC catalog. It's also been mentioned elsewhere (though I can't remember exactly where).

Perhaps its just a selection of possible pre-made dungeon maps, with adventure kernels, and guides on how to use classic dungeon tropes (treasure, traps, motivation, etc.)

Or perhaps it's this ...

Dungeon Delve
A D&D Adventure by David Noonan and Bill Slavicsek

Dungeon Delve provides the DM with an array of small, easy-to-run dungeons each especially designed for a night of gaming.

This book is designed for groups looking for an exciting night of monster-slaying without the prep time. It contains dozens of self-contained easy-to-run mini-dungeons, or "delves," each one crafted for a few hours of game-play.

The book includes delves for 1st- to 30th-level characters, and features dozens of iconic monsters for the heroes to battle. Dungeon Masters can run these delves as one-shot adventures or weave them into their campaign.

Key Selling Points
  • This book has encounters for all levels of characters, from 1st to 30th.
  • DMs can drop each of the mini-dungeons into their games at a moment's notice.
  • Based on the extremely popular "Delve" events held at gaming conventions.
  • Every delve is designed to use existing D&D Dungeon Tiles and D&D Miniatures.

Based on what pukunui posted, sounds like it's the 4E equivalent of d20's Critical Locations.

This would be awesome to have. It would definitely be an easy way to get people into the DM's spot or get those "Gotta have a plan, no off the cuff" DM's running game on random nights. It'd probably make a good interlude between adventure modules if the party's not quite the right level.
