| #3minionsincApr 28, 2011 8:13:28 | I might really like to buy one of the boardgames, unless it contains pawns, tokens, or unpainted miniatures. I mean really, would it drive the cost up to much to have miniatures from one of the previous sets in these board games??? The srp on the previous games were fairly steep but I was prepared to spend the money until I found out that they basically had single color minis in them. Please WOTC bring back the REAL minis... then I'll buy your products again. |
| #4hunterian7Apr 28, 2011 9:58:19 | I'd rather have tokens than pawns. I'll have to wait and see before judging. My guess this will be a perfect fit for Wally or Target. |
| #5starphoenix26Apr 28, 2011 17:31:19 | judging by the cost of the game (34.99) it's safe to say that they use either plastic cone monsters for this. *sighs* wizards/ hasbro..this only continues to spend my cash elsewhere.... |

I mean really, would it drive the cost up to much to have miniatures from one of the previous sets in these board games??? Probably. A die casting mould, especially a complicated one like those used for DDM, is good for only so many items. If this game is distributed via the big chain stores, the number of copies needed is probably much larger than what was scheduled for DDM. I expect the "pawns" to be plastic ones like those used in many boardgames (Ticket to Ride, Shadows over Camelot, etc.). They would be modeled like minis, but much simpler, less detailled. Probably okay for the board game, but not usable for the RPG. |
| #7hunterian7Apr 29, 2011 11:57:11 | I've bought every release for 4th edition, usually on the day it's released. This might be the first one that I don't buy- mostly if it contains pawns. I will not knock the game though. Until I see it for sure, I will wait and see. |
| #8zman123Apr 30, 2011 17:03:51 | I imagine the pawns for this game are going to be the same for the other boardgames, thus reducing cost of production. This will also reduce sales for WOTC D&D product line.....I'm definitely not going to buy it then.... |
| #9lokiareMay 01, 2011 0:22:45 | I imagine the pawns for this game are going to be the same for the other boardgames, thus reducing cost of production. That's the general consensus or put it another way "Looks interesting but not at THAT price" |
| #10mvincentMay 09, 2011 16:32:05 | What do they exactly mean by Pawns for monsters and characters? Not miniatures, not tokens but pawns.... This might just be an indication that they are still unsure whether they'll using unpainted miniatures or tokens. 'Pawn' is a generic term which can stand for any piece owned by or representing a player, such as the dog in Monopoly. I think it's unlikely that they'd use chess-like pieces... not a lot of savings (or branding) for them there. |
| #11tomakazeJul 01, 2011 17:22:09 | Apologies for necroing this old thread but it just popped up in a google search for info on this upcoming release. I may be wrong but a big factor for a lot of folks in the decision to purchase Ravenloft and Ashardalon was greatly helped along due to the included miniatures. Stand alone games that also include appropriate scale miniatures (same sculpts & castings from the DDM line). Kind of a syngergy/muliti-tasker type thing. If Dungeon of Dread skimps on the minis I don't see it doing as well. In my case at least, no minis = no sale. (Just throwing that out there in case the people that make the decisions scan the forums) |
