Jul 06, 2011 13:42:21 this question might have been asked before and if so I apoligise, but I was wondering if any one knew if the back catalog of novles would be released as ebooks or are what they releaed initially going to be the only back catolog novles were getting for now?

Jul 08, 2011 8:35:31 SOme have been. The issue, I assume is the reality that many of the books were contracted before the concept of ebooks existed. The contracts signed with the authors would not include a payment plan for ebooks sold, so new addendum to those contracts would have to be added.

Actually it probably has to do with the big divide between paper publishers and the PDF market. See an author can make 70% just by going PDF, with a physical publisher they get closer to 25%. They have contracts with the physical publisher that won't allow them to publish PDF, and the Physical publisher (who owns those rights) won't publish PDF because it competes with the dying physical book sales. So basically it boils down to a fear of change and unwillingness to move into the 0's...

Jul 11, 2011 17:17:16 Maybe, but I doubt it in this case. The books are written (for the most part) in a shared world. So it still has to go through TSR/WotC books. WotC seems fairly receptive to go the ebook route.

Jul 13, 2011 10:58:01 I have (almost) every novel that WotC publishes on my Kindle, bought from the Kindle store. Go onto amazon.com and look, you can get anything (fiction-wise) published by WotC in the last 10 years, and many from before. It's not PDF's, its ebooks that the OP asked about. You can get them for your Nook also... but not from the iBook store, I assume, yet.

Or you could buy ebooks + MMO store, with old style optional page makeup. How I explain it better? Let´s imagine we go to videogame shop to buy a CD of spelljammer. You buy a videogame, but there is a plus, a pdf with Spelljammer material for paper-and-pencil rpg. You can read the pdf with the modern style, or the "classic" style, like created by TSR for 80´s (pictures by Elmore, Easley, Clyde Cadwell...).

But I suggest like test the selling of the classic gamebooks of endless quest. The risk is less because there isn´t cost of printing. Some fathers could buy them for their children.

Have you seen the Wii U? I wonder if consoles of videogame with screen will be the new future of business, like now the games for mobile and electronic tablet.

I think Hasbro knows there is a potential market in the future electronic tablets. Why not? If I´m right, we wouldn´t of pdfs, but true rpg emulator, the virtual heir or successor of D&D Insider.
