Hi guys. Very confused. Buying an Ipad and wanted to know if DnD 4.0 is /has been released in either amazons or apples stores or another for ebook buying.
can only think of how great this would be. all books/ moduels at my fingertips.

Of course, there is the illegal route to take, but I don't reccomend it.
My thought is buy the book, get a code you enter in to DL the digital copy. Possibly have it tie into the website or something to view.
This has been discussed to death, and we've even had WotC staff say that the implementation of such a system would not be cost-effective, and that stores would not like the increased protection that the books would need to prevent people from stealing the codes.
My idea was to put ad banners on the side of a (free) online compendium. Being an active Insider subscriber could remove the ads. That hasn't happened.
My understanding is that the online compendium doesn't work well (or at all?) on an iPad/iPhone, so that still doesn't help the OP.
Insider has PDF adventures and articles, but the printed materials just aren't (legally) available as eBooks.
Damn. I own most of the books in paper format, but due to living in the middle of Australia it takes a lot longer for us to get them. and the conveniance of having them in an electronic version ( not to mention space requirements) would be fantastic.

AFAIK if purchased from amazon or even istore the content DL is only useful on a small number of machines that are authorised by the orrigional account holder. And Id say most people would be happy to pay cloase to paper cost just for the conveniance.
Unless Wizards has an obligation to the retailer to not do it the files are already stored in a format that would be easily converted to Kindle format for sale at Amazon. Guess we can only hope and pray

I think all you'd have to do was have the code as a separate coupon from the book. You keep the coupons with the codes behind the counter. When you buy the book, the clerk hands you the code. If you order online from Amazon, the code ships with the code. To recoup the minimalistic cost of this separate code you could charge a nominal fee (like a $1) for the download.
I mean its not like piracy is being prevented right now. Every single book can be found for download as a pdf. And I think Amazon probably does more damage to brick and mortar stores than pdfs/ebooks.

Yes, it's sad that piracy and scanning your own hard copy are the only two ways you can get an ebook version of your favorite D&D title.
Remember everyone, the 2nd option is the way you have to go.
