| #1loconius2Jul 06, 2009 23:06:31 | I was thinking about the above powersource and was wondering what could be accomplished with it. I started thinking about avatar:the last airbender and how they did theirs. Basically air could be a controller roll, fire a striker, earth a defender and water a leader. But you wouldn't have to stop there, you could creat other types of classes, but that could be the basic for it... But how would those powersources do it differently then other powersources with those same roles. "Save vs. DM" had this to say about a similar post, well actually this post on a nother forum: "Air: I'm seeing a lot of knocking prone, pushes, slides, and pulls. Binding people up in whirlwinds and the like. I'm seeing maybe a defender secondary here. I think the big shtick would be getting extra pushes/pulls with your attacks. Fire: This is probably the simplest one of them all, just raw fire damage and the ability to overcome resistances. Lighting attacks would be higher powered stuff. Earth: Probably the trickiest to get right. I'm seeing a ton of immoblizes and slows, in fact I'm thinking that Warden is a good template to look at here. Maybe a lot of close burst 1 and blast 2 attacks as well. Marking is probably going to be based on attacking. Instead of using armor they can coat themselves in rocks like Toph does. Water: This is almost as tricky as Earth, but I can imagine a lot of distracting attacks that grant bonuses to allies. Healing as a minor action might be a bit tricky, though. Would take a bit of reimagining." anyone got any idea if this is anything like they were thinking or is it really off base from WOTCs ideas? |

I've seen a few people come up with some halfways decent ideas for elemental classes in the various threads on this topic in the Future Releases forum, but I remain skeptical of the power source. |

I see your concern though, a "fire weaver" would be pretty useless in dealing striker damage against a red dragon if done the way i first mentioned; maybe he can use super cooled water shards [so cold its like fire and "burns" still doign cold damage though] or an explosion dealing thunder damage... i'm curious to know what has been thought up so far! |
| #4Reg06Jul 06, 2009 23:32:47 | Why restrict the elements to certain roles? A fire power could easily create a dense cloud of smoke, causing blindness and minor damage, and an earth power could turn the ground into quicksand. Limiting each element to one role really hampers that class in certain scenarios, like was mentioned. It'd suck. |
| #5undraveJul 06, 2009 23:40:17 | that's way too Arcane for my taste. I see Elemental not dealing with just the old four elements, but actually dealing with the basic building blocks of reality itself, almost a molecular manipulation thing. I see Elemental classes dealing a lot with transmutation. I got this idea of a heavy armored elemental striker who can bind pieces of the Elemental Chaos to his armor and equipment to transform it into dangerous things. Turning his cape into the firey wings of a demon, his steel blade into a blade of acid or sheer lightning and his arm into a powerful steel ram. Then he starts doing the same thing to his opponent to make them more vulnerable to certain damage type or chip away at their very essence little by little from the inside! His striker gimmick would be that everytime he inflicts a damage type the enemy gains vulnerability to it (equal to some stat + some bonus per tier) until the end of his next turn! |
| #6Reg06Jul 06, 2009 23:53:29 | Yes, if Elemental got a power source it would dip heavily into the Elemental Chaos to make it anything but ArcaneII. The trouble is, alot of the themes and imagery it'd go for would dip into Primal and Arcane. It could be very cool though. |

I must ask, would it be okay by you if I used this imagery? I have a Primordial villain that is going to be the culmination of my next campaign and that picture you painted would be perfect! |
| #8Mist-BoundJul 08, 2009 13:49:18 | Myself, I'm with the "Transmutation, Arena Morphing, Polymorphing and Elemental Evocation" crowd. That's pretty much what I've been figuring the Elemental classes would be about since I heard of the source- why, for ages now I've had a theoretical "Shaper" in my head as an Elemental Controller, who can transform the elements by calling upon their instinctive desire to flux. Air becomes earth, creating an impenetrable wall to cordon off the enemy. A roaring bolt of elemental flame spatters and infuses itself into the earth around its target, transmuting it into a blazing caldera of magma that will consume enemies who enter it. A wave of the hand and flesh becomes water, an approaching enemy mob dissolving into elemental brine. Drawing upon the font of elemental entropy (The Abyss) to break things down into nothingness, imbuing yourself with elemental stone or flame to crush your enemies with primordial force, molding the terrain like a sculptor with clay, these are all the things I see from the Elemental source. |
| #9MyztekJul 08, 2009 19:37:41 | I think we'll see the elemental power source turn out to be the 'demonic' and 'elder titan' power source - utilizing powers that are ancient in nature. I imagine they'll shoehorn incarnum into this area, as well as classes that feel a bit like the invoker. |

Hmm... given that this is the elemental chaos we're talking about... Minor action: the target gains Vulnerable (X) until the end of your next turn, to a randomply deturmined element. (chaos sorcerer in reverse). The class would have access to all the posssible damage types that could be rolled... but the question becomes how many minor actions do you have to spend to get a type you learned. On the other hand, ANYONE can use the Vulnerable, not just you. |
