Or, if not, I'm hoping some players can speculate... It seems with Essentials Fighters using MBAs, with melee training that long sought for Fighter/Wizard could make some serious sense. A 20 INT will give a +5 to AC, take leather (or hide), a shield, and you are looking at a 19 or 20 AC at 1st level. Plus, none of your Wizard attack powers will suffer in any way. Put a 14 in CON and you're looking at a pretty tough character in terms of AC and HP. A bit less damage than a straight Fighter, but I think a lot of players will be excited about this. Curious how many people have thought about this. It was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw that Fighters will be using MBAs... Thanks. |

Not including the lack of dailies of course. I'm sure that will add some kind of little twist to multiclassing. Not that I am really sure what that will be though... |

I think with the Essentials classes we're going to be limited to multiclassing. At least for the time being. |

In other words, some (but not all) Essentials powers will be like "Fighter Encounter 2" - it's just another Fighter Encounter 2 power like anything else out of PH1/MP1/MP2/Dragon. Other Essentials class features don't have levels, and these aren't meant to be used like a normal power from the class. These will likely be omitted from the power lists of a straight-up fighter, given automatically when you choose the associated build or class feature like other class feature powers. The CB treats hybrid as a class. It then has two class features, which are the real classes. Each one uses the power lists of its class. Powers introduced in Essentials, that feature levels in the stat block, will probably be under the class's power lists just like content from any other book or article. The class-feature-ish powers won't be available without turning on houserules/show-illegal-elements. For example, I could take a warlock and turn on houserules, then select the avenger's Oath of Enmity in place of whatever power I want. So if someone really wants that knight power from Essentials that doesn't have a level in the stat block, they can still get it even in the CB. (It just won't be "legal.") Personally, I don't see a difference between putting the level in the stat block vs. using the level that the feature is gained from the progression table. If you gain it at level 5, isn't it basically a level 5 power? It should be mechanically possible, though not RPGA legal, to build a hybrid and populate the power selection choices exclusively with options from Essentials. It should also be possible to choose a smattering of legal Essentials options, but it won't quite be a Knight/Thief as much as a Fighter/Rogue with some knight and thief options. |
