| #1AenghusJun 15, 2009 12:09:23 | Reading the Favoured Soul paragon path excerpt today from Divine Power, there appear to be consistency problems with it. In the fluff it says a Favoured Soul grows wings on getting the path, in the 16th level path feature it says she grows wings and gains a fly speed at that point (and don't state the maneuverability of that flight). More confusing, the level 12 utility increases the Favoured soul's non-existent up to 15th level flight speed by 4 and allows them to hover. Now, you could deduce that the utility allows slow flight one encounter a day until proper flight at 16th level is achieved, but it doesn't say that. Increasing the fly speed by 4 is not the same thing as "granting a fly speed of 4 or increasing your existing fly speed by 4" I have been waiting for Divine Power for ages, and evidence that errata is needed even in the previews is annoying. A single quick glance at the preview and the inconsistencies jump out at me. Is there a better place to post this, so that the devs can see it and take note? |
| #2BolongoJun 15, 2009 13:00:57 | That jumped out at me too. Kinda obvious, makes you wonder who does the proofreading over there. ![]() There's a thread over on D&Di General where people have noticed the same thing. That probably gets read more then this forum, FWIW. It's way too late by now for any errata to get into the book of course. :P |
| #3dynamic_reversistJun 15, 2009 13:18:32 | It is entirely possible that the new avenger powers in Divine power will include some that give you a temporary flight speed. Those, combined with some that you can gain through multiclassing or items, make the power not entirely useless. |
| #4ignizJun 15, 2009 15:21:36 | Unless i'm missing something, it says you get a fly speed of 6 at 16th? I guess they've errata'd it already. |
| #5AenghusJun 15, 2009 16:00:25 | Unless i'm missing something, it says you get a fly speed of 6 at 16th? I guess they've errata'd it already. The 12th level utility grants a +4 increase to fly speed (an increase to an existing fly speed, technically not a fly speed itself), but they don't actually get a fly speed till 16th level. If the rules are being strictly interpreted the 12th level utility is useless until 16th level, barring magic items granting a fly speed. |
| #6Axiomatic_BadgerJun 15, 2009 16:12:49 | being strictly interpreted the 12th level utility is useless until 16th level, barring magic items granting a fly speed. Or being a Genasi. Or a sorcerer. And it grants regeneration. |
| #7ignizJun 15, 2009 16:17:28 | I see what you're saying now Aenghus, unless there's some flying in existance already then it does seem useless, but as atomic badger points out there is precedance for its use with Avengers. It could be redone though, to either give a fly speed or enhance an existing fly speed. |
| #8LitigationJun 15, 2009 16:23:08 | Yeah, I don't think this one's much of an issue. The weaksauce Daily 20 power is more of a problem. |
| #9dynamic_reversistJun 15, 2009 16:31:31 | Really? I kind of like the daily power, its flavorful, and its got a dose of control that I tend to look for with my avenger, as I pull controller-lite duty. Its damage isn't anything to write home about, but its decent, and the move that is part of the effect is effectively an extra move action on top of it all. |
| #10EnclaveJun 15, 2009 17:43:53 | I see what you're saying now Aenghus, unless there's some flying in existance already then it does seem useless, but as atomic badger points out there is precedance for its use with Avengers. There's plenty of ways to fly already for this to not be useless. It'll just become far more useful once they reach level 16. |
| #11Chiba_MonkeyJun 15, 2009 17:55:15 | That jumped out at me too. Kinda obvious, makes you wonder who does the proofreading over there. Didn't we have a major proofreading problem with 3.5's Complete Divine? What is it with WotC and books based on the Divine that causes their editors to fall asleep on the job? Anyone recall that Tharizdun's favored weapon was the "check toee"? My favorite riposte to that was someone saying it was a simple weapon that did 2d12 damage to all creatures with the "editor" subtype. |

I don't see a problem here. Upon becoming a Favored Soul (lvl 11) you grow wings. At 16th level they become strong enough, and your body light enough, that they can be used for flight. The lack of maneuverability is not an issue, either. It doesn't say you have (hover) or (clumsy), so neither of those apply. There's no altitude limit. |
| #13rovinJun 15, 2009 18:50:52 | In the fluff it says a Favoured Soul grows wings on getting the path, in the 16th level path feature it says she grows wings and gains a fly speed at that point (and don't state the maneuverability of that flight). It doesn't need to state maneuverability unless it's clumsy or hover. The standard "crash if you don't move 2 squares" flight is the default version of flight. More confusing, the level 12 utility increases the Favoured soul's non-existent up to 15th level flight speed by 4 and allows them to hover. Now, you could deduce that the utility allows slow flight one encounter a day until proper flight at 16th level is achieved, but it doesn't say that. Yeah, that's a problem. Is there a better place to post this, so that the devs can see it and take note? I've been e-mailing the company directly as I spot errors. Whether it actually helps is unclear, although I have seen a couple of updates that may have been a result of nagging, as the wordings were identical to my messages. |
| #14alumanJun 15, 2009 19:00:32 | Eh, as of right now, it won't help DP, but it might make round 1 of errata (the book is already been proof'd and is at printers, Might even be in transit). |
| #15Kensan_OniJun 15, 2009 19:00:37 | How would you all be feeling if the order was reversed though? Effect: Until the stance ends, while you aren’t blooded, you gain regeneration equal to your Wisdom modifier. In addition, your fly speed increases by 4, and you can hover. While this doesn't change the effect of "Hey, I can't fly", it changes the Flight Bonus as a Rider to the Main ability (I regenerate every turn I'm not bloodied), instead of the Regeneration being a Rider of the Flight Ability. Personally, I like that the power gains a small boost at 12th, and then a bigger boost later, and while I understand why people feel it's not right the way it's written, I don't think it's a error. |
| #16stogoeJun 15, 2009 20:42:19 | Man, that utility would be pretty sweet on a longtooth shifter. Gain regen when you aren't bloodied, and gain regen while you are bloodied. |
