| #1doctorhookJan 22, 2009 23:14:05 | http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4dnd/calendar It seems February's Editorial Calendar is up! It's promising us, among other things:
Is it just me, or does this calendar look emptier than previous months? |
| #2Dragon9Jan 22, 2009 23:18:28 | An article called "Bane", on Friday, 13 Feb; Must be about the big divine nasty. Although you'd think they'd pick a more "love" based deity for the day before Valentine's Day. :P |
| #3darotwyn_dupJan 22, 2009 23:31:09 | Must be about the big divine nasty. Although you'd think they'd pick a more "love" based deity for the day before Valentine's Day. :P I think the choice is bloody brilliant....I hate valentine's day...but, that's just me. Also, big W00T to Shadar-Kai and Necromancy...February looks to be a real good month. ![]() |
| #4GMforPowergamersJan 22, 2009 23:35:23 | I think the choice is bloody brilliant....I hate valentine's day...but, that's just me. you know what...I hate that made up hallmark holiday...this whole month has a dark feel to it... now that is what I am talking about... |
| #5mhacdebhandiaJan 22, 2009 23:35:40 | Well, it also happens to be Friday the 13th, so Bane seems perfectly appropriate. |
| #6darotwyn_dupJan 22, 2009 23:50:39 | Well, it also happens to be Friday the 13th, so Bane seems perfectly appropriate. Oh hey, I just noticed that, good call. That's gonna be a good day :D |
| #7doctorhookJan 23, 2009 0:08:20 | Interestingly enough, my sister works for Hallmark. She's a greeting-card stock-jockey. Thus, I think Bane is completely appropriate for Valentine's Day. |
| #8brotherjgizmoJan 23, 2009 3:13:49 | I just died from excitement, and came back because of the giddiness. :D |
| #9rikijiJan 23, 2009 10:11:10 | you know what...I hate that made up hallmark holiday...this whole month has a dark feel to it... I have to disagree with the characterization of Valentine's day as a 'made up hallmark holiday'. The holiday has a long tradition dating to perhaps the 14th century in its modern form. However, like many church festivals (Christmas, Candelmas, All Saints Day, Easter), its placement in the calendar most likely reflects an attempt to christianize a popular pagan festival with similar traditions. That festival, Lupercalia, possibly predates the founding of Rome, so can be seen as a truely ancient tradition. That said, the editorial callender for the month looks to be quite exciting, and I see nothing wrong with its somewhat darkish bent. |
| #10salickJan 23, 2009 10:37:03 | you know what...I hate that made up hallmark holiday...this whole month has a dark feel to it... Perhaps you are thinking of Sweetest day http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweetest_Day |
| #11Tharag_BoccJan 23, 2009 14:02:01 | What? No Avenger Preview. ![]()
Edit: Just noticed that PH2 excerpts start the second half of the month. Maybe the Avenger, along with a preview of the fully tested Barbarian, will show up for FREE.
|
| #12brotherjgizmoJan 23, 2009 14:07:29 | The Primal Power Preview might be like the AV Preview. For feedback and playtesting. |
| #13ranadielJan 23, 2009 16:38:47 | The Primal Power Preview might be like the AV Preview. For feedback and playtesting. That was a playtest not a preview. -=Edit: I should also point out that it is likely a typo and suppose to be Arcane Power, as if I'm remembering the release schedule right Arcane Power comes out in March.=- -=Edit 2: Okay my memory failed me. Arcane Power comes out in April. I still say there is a typo there, although whether it is the book name or the article type I can't really say.=- |
| #14brotherjgizmoJan 23, 2009 16:41:23 | So? it's still a long way out before Primal Power comes, it's purpose is so people will playtest it and wizards make the necessary changes. AFTERTHOUGHT: Or it could just be a preview |
| #15Tharag_BoccJan 23, 2009 18:02:59 | So? it's still a long way out before Primal Power comes, it's purpose is so people will playtest it and wizards make the necessary changes. A playtest seem very unlikely. How can anyone be expected to evaluate class options when full versions of those classes still won't be available for around another month? |
| #16doctorhookJan 23, 2009 18:47:29 | What? Avenger? I sure hope so. As for the Barbarian, I'm "meh", because we've already seen what it's about. I'd like to see a preview of the new rituals, new feats, new magic items, and new paragon paths, not to mention a race or two! |
| #17Tharag_BoccJan 23, 2009 19:27:14 | Avenger? I sure hope so. As for the Barbarian, I'm "meh", because we've already seen what it's about. I'd like to see a preview of the new rituals, new feats, new magic items, and new paragon paths, not to mention a race or two! Agreed on all points, however, while we have already seen the initial concept of the barbarian we haven't seen how the playtest feed back has been implemented (such as how they intend to encourage them to stay in light armor), nor have we seen their other build feature (thane born), so I wouldn't mind seeing them again. |
| #18paideiaJan 24, 2009 5:58:00 | I really wish they would soon do an article on goblins as a playable race. They are kind of essential to the Eberron setting. Shadar-Kai seem a little too "niche" to me. I loved the articles on Warforged, Gnolls and Minotaurs though. |
| #19doctorhookJan 24, 2009 11:48:52 | I really wish they would soon do an article on goblins as a playable race. They are kind of essential to the Eberron setting. Shadar-Kai seem a little too "niche" to me. They're doing a mix of new and old. Goblins are "old", while the Shadar-Kai concept is relatively "new". I'm not sure I understand what's "niche" about Shadar-Kai, but I do think that it's just a matter of time before we see an article called, "Playing Goblins". |
| #20Dragon9Jan 24, 2009 15:32:21 | I'm not sure I understand what's "niche" about Shadar-Kai They're cashing in on the Emo thing. ;) |
| #21brotherjgizmoJan 24, 2009 15:43:06 | The fluff isn't particularly emo. I thought emo when I saw the MM now I think hedonist/nihilist. They aren't 'complaining, no-one-understands-me, mass minded, music market pawn, idiots. |
| #22Luis_CarlosJan 24, 2009 16:05:03 | Shadar-kai had to be a pc race. Maybe it could be in player handbook III. |
| #23brotherjgizmoJan 24, 2009 16:15:36 | probably will be in on of the PHB likely the one with the shadow power source |
| #24VaelJan 24, 2009 16:30:01 | The main reason I can think the Shadar-Kai are getting the PC treatment now is it's to tie in with "Open Grave", as there's a good section on them and their relation to undead in the Shadowfell. Just like there was an article on Dragonslayers shortly after Draconomicon came out. |
| #25doctorhookJan 24, 2009 22:14:43 | The main reason I can think the Shadar-Kai are getting the PC treatment now is it's to tie in with "Open Grave", as there's a good section on them and their relation to undead in the Shadowfell. Just like there was an article on Dragonslayers shortly after Draconomicon came out. This whole month is full of things that could have an Open Grave tie in. Necromancy rituals? Yes, please. |
| #26the_badger_02Jan 25, 2009 20:15:53 | Personally I think that Ran's right and it's most likely to be a preview for Arcane, and there's just been a typo. I hope that's what it is, I'm very excited for Arcane Power. |
| #27doctorhookJan 25, 2009 21:15:14 | Personally I think that Ran's right and it's most likely to be a preview for Arcane, and there's just been a typo. I hope that's what it is, I'm very excited for Arcane Power. I'm going to say that maybe it's not a preview of the book, "Primal Power", but rather it's a preview article of the Primal power source altogether. Just an idea. |
| #28ranadielJan 25, 2009 21:22:18 | I'm going to say that maybe it's not a preview of the book, "Primal Power", but rather it's a preview article of the Primal power source altogether. We already had a preview of the Primal Power Source in general in January and beyond though. |
| #29doctorhookJan 25, 2009 21:31:36 | We already had a preview of the Primal Power Source in general in January and beyond though. So? Maybe there's more... :P |
| #30GrazelJan 27, 2009 17:54:04 | Well it could be a preview of Primal Power. We already had a preview of AV2 after all. |
| #31ranadielJan 27, 2009 18:01:56 | Well it could be a preview of Primal Power. We already had a preview of AV2 after all. No we didn't, we had a playtest of AV2. There is a difference between a playtest(material still in development) and a preview(material as it is going to appear in the book). |
| #32doctorhookFeb 04, 2009 0:06:11 | Re: Bane article According to this week's Digital Insider column, this article is part of a new feature called "Deities & Demigods"! This is encouraging, not only because it means we'll learn more about deities and demigods, but also because it suggests that there won't be a 4E version of that horrible, horrible book from 3E. :P |
| #33Lord_DarquainFeb 04, 2009 0:49:03 | Hmm. The calendar seems to have heavily changed since you started this thread. Several of the PH2 excerpts are gone as is the Playing Shadar-Kai article. ![]() http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4dnd/calendar |
| #34GMforPowergamersFeb 04, 2009 1:20:01 | Hmm. The calendar seems to have heavily changed since you started this thread. Several of the PH2 excerpts are gone as is the Playing Shadar-Kai article. I have been waitint for months for that damn Shadar Kai article it better be comeing...it is still on the ToC |
| #35Lord_DarquainFeb 04, 2009 1:21:56 | I have been waitint for months for that damn Shadar Kai article it better be comeing...it is still on the ToC And on the cover, but they've pulled and changed everything that before with the Barbarian article. |
| #36TheLoneClericFeb 04, 2009 7:18:01 | And on the cover, but they've pulled and changed everything that before with the Barbarian article. You mean Shaman? |
| #37BolongoFeb 04, 2009 7:22:54 | You mean Shaman? No, he's referring to when the Barbarian playtest was postponed at the last minute. And yeah, I just checked and the Calendar has been changed from what it was a few hours ago. No more emo shadow humanoids... |
| #38serphetFeb 04, 2009 7:24:53 | Let's hope the writer (chris simms, not a freelancer), is just running behind. |
| #39Lord_DarquainFeb 04, 2009 7:55:38 | In fact, Chris was at DDXP, so perhaps he is running behind or came up with a new idea for the article while watching how everyone was playing the Delve. |
| #40nihzletFeb 04, 2009 10:26:48 | Unfortunate. I'm playing a Shadar-kai now and I was really looking forward to some neat racial stuff. ![]() |
| #41the_badger_02Feb 04, 2009 10:28:28 | Wow, this month really just seems dead. I can't really see much to be excited about right now |
| #42TheLoneClericFeb 04, 2009 11:16:38 | Ya. I agree. Come on WotC, bring us our Emo-people racial write up! |
| #43GMforPowergamersFeb 04, 2009 11:19:39 | Ya. I agree. Come on WotC, bring us our Emo-people racial write up! I have been totaly outspoken on this subject...bring hte shadar kai NOW!!!!~! |
| #44doctorhookFeb 04, 2009 14:51:02 | Okay guys, I just had a look at the Editorial Calendar: "Playing Shadar-Kai" is still there, just not this Friday. It's been postponed by ten days, so look for it on Monday, February 16th, long with our first -- and apparently only, for this month at least -- PH2 excerpt, and our preview of "Primal Power" (which I still find difficult to believe is a preview of the book with the same title; the two prior installments in the Power series haven't even been previewed yet!). |
| #45GMforPowergamersFeb 04, 2009 16:49:37 | Okay guys, I just had a look at the Editorial Calendar: "Playing Shadar-Kai" is still there, just not this Friday. | #46BolongoFeb 04, 2009 16:59:10 | Okay guys, I just had a look at the Editorial Calendar: "Playing Shadar-Kai" is still there, just not this Friday. I wouldn't say it's "still there", I'd say it's "there again". Apparently the Calendar is now updated twice a day. ![]() |
| #47doctorhookFeb 04, 2009 22:02:30 | I wouldn't say it's "still there", I'd say it's "there again". The article was never missing from the calendar any of the times I checked it. It remains on the calendar, thus I used to word "still". :P |
| #48johnthedm7000Feb 04, 2009 22:39:31 | I am overwhelmed with feelings of anticipation at the word of there being Necromantic rituals-even though I don't have an insider subscription it's still good to know that there's going to be some more love for necromancers. Although it's probably not going to occur, I've always loved the Necrotic Cyst line of spells, and hope that perhaps they'll be present in the Necromantic rituals article. They're great tools for darker or outright evil PCs-plant a necrotic cyst in someone (or in someone's loved one) and with the right spells you can own them, holding their life in your hands, or you can turn them into a spy or into a tumor-ridden slave. Horrific, but very effective. |
| #49TheLoneClericFeb 04, 2009 22:43:08 | :embarrass oh...um I us have to go put this pitch fork away...move along nothing to see here...:embarrass Pitchforks? Nope. Didn't have any of those. Now torches...well, a few. |
| #50Ragnar_LodbrokFeb 05, 2009 17:50:07 | :embarrass oh...um I us have to go put this pitch fork away...move along nothing to see here...:embarrass Wait, so the angry mob march on WotC HQ was canceled? *Goes to put away scythe and extinguish torch * |
| #51malisteenFeb 05, 2009 18:02:24 | Shoot. Now I'm all angered up and have nowhere to march! |
| #52halfricanFeb 05, 2009 19:07:12 | They still took away all of the phb2 excerpts! *keeps pitchfork and torch handy* |
| #53doctorhookFeb 05, 2009 19:16:07 | They still took away all of the phb2 excerpts! *keeps pitchfork and torch handy* There's one on the 16th, unless we're looking at different calendars somehow. |
| #54halfricanFeb 05, 2009 20:00:29 | Excuse me. All but one phb2 excerpt. |
| #55nihzletFeb 05, 2009 20:03:03 | Well, I'm glad the Shadar-Kai article is back. I won't be playing my Shadar-Kai for a bit anyway(we switch off campaigns every little while, and I'm up for running for the next few weeks), so it should be up before I have to play him again. ![]() I am saddened at the loss of PHB2 excerpts though. What gives? |
| #56halfricanFeb 05, 2009 20:15:16 | Well, that one had best be the avenger. If it's something lame, like an armor, I will be sorely disappointed. |
| #57johnthedm7000Feb 06, 2009 12:44:17 | Okay... I don't mean to freak out but it seems like the Necromantic rituals were removed from the preview. Please tell me that I'm just seeing things and or that it's been folded into another feature. |
| #58halfricanFeb 06, 2009 13:47:23 | Ugh. You're right. It's gone. Not even in the ToC anymore. Interestingly enough, there is a link on the ToC to the shadar-kai article, though it only takes you to Bane. |
| #59brotherjgizmoFeb 06, 2009 13:56:04 | They changed them for something called Secrets of the City Entombed |
| #60johnthedm7000Feb 06, 2009 14:04:57 | Hey maybe it's just something that's a more evocative name for "necromancy rituals". I mean one could suppose that necromantic rituals would be secrets-and likely secrets of a tomb-city...maybe...possibly... why?!!! POR QUE!!!!!!?? :shakes self a little bit, more composed but still a little bit teary eyed: Why must you tease us with the Necromantic Goodness and then take it away? Alas, WOTC is a cruel mistress... |
| #61GMforPowergamersFeb 06, 2009 14:46:58 | They changed them for something called Secrets of the City Entombed good thing I am lazy...my pitchfork is still not put away... |
| #62ranadielFeb 06, 2009 17:21:01 | Hey maybe it's just something that's a more evocative name for "necromancy rituals". I mean one could suppose that necromantic rituals would be secrets-and likely secrets of a tomb-city...maybe...possibly... Rahesh, the long-dead capital of a lost empire ruled by undead, has been unearthed. Now the Scholars of Sin study the city's ancient necromantic secrets -- for better or for worse. You could be right that they are still in the article. *shrugs* |
| #63johnthedm7000Feb 06, 2009 17:48:42 | Your compassion is touching :P |
| #64Ragnar_LodbrokFeb 06, 2009 18:09:37 | You could be right that they are still in the article. *shrugs* Aww, I was hoping to get the gargantuan Orcus prototype and the map of his throne room while looting WotC HQ . |
| #65urpok_dupFeb 07, 2009 10:43:54 | ugh... WoTC 've dissapointed me... i want Shadar-kai ASAP(((((( |
| #66serphetFeb 08, 2009 18:56:09 | that new article is the same as the necromatic rituals, read its desc on the ToC. |
