Anyway, the text says: "Conjured creatures lack basic attacks and therefore cannot make opportunity attacks." But the attack block for the Onyx Dog figurine uses the circled sword icon which represents a basic melee attack. Look in your Monster Manual page 7 — the circled icon is the indicator for "basic attack", which is a game term (see Magic Missile, for example).
#4 serphet Aug 21, 2008 22:54:15	let me rephrase, the editors are nits. We understand what they are trying to say, they just really need to correct such an obvious error. It is marked as a basic attack because it is a 'basic' attack, however for rules purposes he has no basic attack ability, this the attack is simply a standard attack for rules consideration. The question becomes, does the mindset for no OA's continue; That is does he have a basic attack and it should simply say he cannot make OA's, or is that attack mismarked , this is relevent because things llike warlord abilities rely on 'basic' attacks.

Yeah. I presume that the mistake is that the icon is just wrong, because that's the simplest and most elegant correction.

Well, while it's not a basic attack as such, the bite is has a special interaction. It could be an indictator of the figurine's at-will power.
