| #1Joseph_SilverMar 19, 2009 10:49:07 | Right now, there are four non-setting-specific classes for each power source: Martial - Fighter, Ranger, Rogue, Warlord Arcane - Bard, Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard Primal - Barbarian, Druid, Shaman, Warden So far, the only campaign setting released has the following Forgotten Realms - Swordmage, Spellscarred, Dark Pact Warlock That's a full class, a multiclass-only class, and a new build for an existing class. All three use the Arcane power source. Does this mean that Eberron will get the following? Eberron - Artificer, Dragonmarked (?), New Arcane Build (?) What do you think? |
| #2sigil_beguilerMar 19, 2009 10:55:44 | Artificer obviously for the class. I wouldn't be surprised if Dragonmarked is Multi-Class Class there has been enough rumblings on the community to see it is a viable option. As for the additional build, hmm... I dunno. |
| #3The_JesterMar 19, 2009 11:02:29 | I imagine the kalashtar and doppelgangers will be featured as races, so we can expect complementary builds/feats/PPs. Not sure about a new class build. A new build for divine classes that follow a philosophy and not a god might be the most Eberron thing. |
| #4greatfritoMar 19, 2009 18:02:02 | Well, I expect you're mostly right. We'll see Artificer for the full class, certainly. I expect we'll see Dragonmarks done as multiclassing of some sort. Perhaps more like the "Weapon Mastery" pseudo-classes than like the Spellscarred multi-class only class. For a build? Hm. Dunno. If they include one, there's not just one that stands out. Eberron, if it wants to match its 3.5 self, needs the Shadow power source (and Psionics) sooner rather than later. I'm just not sure. An alternative scheme might be to surprise us all, and have something akin to "Magebred" as a multi-class only class (just like Spellscarred), and then Dragonmarks as pseudo-classes as well (like "Weapon Mastery"). I imagine the kalashtar and doppelgangers will be featured as races, so we can expect complementary builds/feats/PPs. I seriously doubt we'll see Kalashtar prior to Player's Handbook 3 (and then, only if it includes the Psionic power source). Personally, I think they may say "here's the Kalashtar fluff - use the Deva race's mechanics, with these fluff changes to their abilities." I know a lot of people would cry foul of it, but I think we'll still see it being used as a placeholder, at least. Doppelgangers, though, seem like a good call for inclusion. I'm absolutely certain we'll see Warforged included in the Eberron book though. They've appeared in Dragon, yes, but I just can't see WotC not including them in the Eberron Player's Guide. But yeah, Warforged and Doppelganger would, I expect, be an excellent call. |
| #5crazysamaritanMar 19, 2009 22:11:10 | Eberron - Artificer, Dragonmarked (?), New Arcane Build (?) I think one sample is not enough to draw a conclusion. Artificer (yes) Dragonmarks (probably a multi-class-only 'class', possibly just a chain of feats and a PP) Warforged (without a doubt) Changelings (I can hope) Kalastar (maybe, definitely a blurb about them) There might be enough Dragonmark and Races stuff that they don't cover an additional build for a previous class. |

They don't NEED to use the psionic power source, they just need ability score bonuses and a power that will complement it. By the time Eberron comes out they should know and be playtesting psionics in PHB3, which should be out 4-6 months after. There's more to the race than the psionic elements. Just add a psionic-esque power with a new keyword and you're golden. But yeah, Warforged and Doppelganger would, I expect, be an excellent call. Warforged showed up in Dragon already. I doubt they'll reprint that article. |

| #10ranadielMar 20, 2009 6:34:00 | Warforged showed up in Dragon already. I doubt they'll reprint that article. They are already confirmed to being printed in the Eberron Player's Guide. |
| #11MarandahirMar 20, 2009 10:54:06 | While the Dragon Article Warforged appeared in was during the free period of Dungeon and Dragon Magazines, Wizards isn't going to force Eberron players to relegate to usage of the online magazines to play such a core race to their setting. The fact that Warforged is got both a Dragon Article and is now appearing as a race in a [i}Book[/i] is evidence that the races that are covered in Dragon Magazine are still "incomplete" and haven't gotten their full coverage; they just have been made usable and somewhat more balanced than the NPC races in the back of the MM. Which means that Gnoll, Minotaur, and Shadar-kai may appear in future PHBs or PGs (I would not be surprised if Shadar-kai got a full write-up for the PHB that focuses/finishes the Shadow Power Source). Hopefully future xSetting Player's Guides will not issue classes that are Arcane; and we'll get 4+ classes for other Power Sources as well. Dark Sun will probably give an extra Psionic Class, assuming that Psionic is being covered in the PHB3 and Dark Sun is the 2010 Setting. |

By the time Eberron comes out they should know and be playtesting psionics in PHB3, which should be out 4-6 months after. I agree with this, Kalashtar are important to the setting. Where as dopplegangers have more traction as being setting neutral. Don't get me wrong, Kalshtar CAN be used in any setting but more work has to be put into it. Dopplegangers you can just say they've always been there, hiding amongst the other races. Warforged showed up in Dragon already. I doubt they'll reprint that article. And now I can no longer agree with you. Warforged are even more important ot Eberron than Kalashtar. If the powers that be printed a Eberron players guide without warforged, it would be like printing the forgotten realms setting without including the sword coast or spine of the world. It would be incomplete. The only reason the warforged appeared in the first 4e issue of dragon was because they wanted to get the people playing Eberron in 3.5 to switch over as soon as they could, and as far as I can tell Warforged are a lot more popular in eberron as characters than dopplegangers, or kalashtar. |
| #13BedfordMar 22, 2009 6:53:41 | I'm curious how they would treat psionicists in 4e. Wouldn't mind seeing that. |
| #14bloodcloudMar 23, 2009 22:33:28 | I believe dragonmark will follow the spellscarred format. Dragonmarked heir would be their PP, Heir of Syberis might be an epic destiny Renegade mastermaker would be a sweet paragon path. Hope it's there Humonculus artificer build anyone? An undying elf epic destiny would be pretty cool too... An Inspired race and that symbiot thing too would be appreciated. And I know that is not gonna happen, but a karrnathi zombie or skeleton race would be totaly awesome to me. If only as a MM race. I would also looove a dream pact for the warlock. Would just seem so fitting. Alienist hopefully in arcane power as a wizard PP. Always liked that prestige class. Also, I would definitely love to see graft rules actually intended for players to keep, not a ''find a way so your player wants to get rid of it'' stupidity like from open grave. And a comeback of the fleshwarper. A form of necromancer is also a must, and ASAP. I would actually see this guy more like a striker. Give him a pet build, and you got it righ for sure. A minion build could also be awesome, but I'm not sure how to balance that out. Geomancer had a nice feeling in my opinion, but I'm not sure how to translate the feel of that in 4e. Also, I'd be happy of a multiclass book. More multiclass feats, more PMC feats, multiclass character paragon path, that sort of stuff. I don't expect to see that until late though. More way to tweak rituals would be nice. Like feats to shorten them. A paragon path for that too? There is already an epic destiny affecting ritual cost (although it does seem broken...) |
