This thread is directed mostly to the developers who frequent the forums.

This is not a survey!

A major question is being passed around on some of the threads and many of us are wondering......

Are there any parts of the DDI plans that have been shelved for good or are they still in development?

yes or no answers will suffice.

Character Visualizer .... Being worked on? Yes or No
Virtual Table .... Being worked on? Yes or No
Dungeon Builder .... Being worked on? Yes or No

Character Visualizer .... Not going to be finished, ever? Yes or No
Virtual Table .... Not going to be finished, ever? Yes or No
Dungeon Builder ... Not going to be finished, ever? Yes or No

You are aware that Future Releases is basically a staff member dead zone right? I think it has been like three months since we last got any posts from them. You aren't going to get any responses from them here.

PM them all a link to this thread. ;)

I'd be satisfied with:
Are you currently working on these specific projects, and if you aren't, are there solid plans to pick them up in the future?

I don't need dates or promises, just : Yeah, we're working on them, no solid dates, but progress is being made. Or: No, not right now, but we might finish them when we have the money. (i.e., not necessarily dead in the water.)

Well waddaya know, maybe they read the boards after all.
Or it could just be a lucky coincidence that thisold article came up in rotation on the front page today.

I think it's just that that was exactly a year ago.

Yeah...this is very odd to me. I followed the link and thought to myself, self, it looks like BB put the wrong dates - it says Feb. 2008!

Then I read further and the tone of the article explained it all; it said this stuff would be released alongside D&D 4.0, so the dates were not wrong! It is just weird to me that WotC would post a link to a year-old article that references such a sore point when they could just have easily posted the screenshots themselves.

I think it was a glitch. I remember this article from last year and had a major case of deja vu. Maybe they meant to post another article, but somehow it referenced the earlier article from one year ago.

This would do better in the DDI forums. They've already said they are cleanign up issues with the CB and they are working on the visualizer next.

Source for the "We're working on the Visualizer next" comment? I was under the impression that they had said they didn't know for certain whether or not they'd be working on it, ever. If I've missed a statement somewhere, I'd be ecstatic.

They said that they "will be" rather than "currently are" working on the Visualizer next; it's a pretty old comment, and the debate now isn't whether or not it was said, but whether or not it's still accurate.

Dangit. Does anyone have anything that they overheard, did anyone mention the Gametable or Visualizer off the record at the last convention?

Ah, I see... so we need a daily or weekly affirmation that they're working on something or the sky is falling. Got it. Carry on.

lol Depending upon whom you ask, yes. FWIW though, these sorts of questions come up more frequently in the sort of acute economic conditions we're currently facing.

Yes... I have seen a lot of posts that amount to "Have they said anything else?" "How about now?" "Now?" "Now?!" "How about now??!!"

Then finally a reply: "Dude, it's only been an hour between each of your posts. Chill."

Thanks for the sarcasm. You're very clever, and we're all terribly impressed. We'd just like to know whether they're planning on finishing it or not. Not unreasonable. Yeesh.

Thanks for the sarcasm.

You are very welcome!

You're very clever, and we're all terribly impressed.

Thank you for noticing. I try.

You can go the DDI forums and find a million threads asking the same thing.

On a daily basis. :pile:

Ad naseum.

We've seen working versions of all them. While that certainly doesn't mean that the projects couldn't be scrapped, it would be ill advised to do so on a financial basis as well as a business plan basis. It's in their best interests financially to add more value to the DDI subscriptions.

They have been loathe to comment on the status of works in progress, and I don't blame them after their poor decision to announce things would be ready at 4e launch. Now they announce when something is just about ready to go into beta and not before. They haven't answered the other million threads on it because it leaves it open for false expectations to be set. If they're going to scrap something they'll announce it. If it's ready for prime time, they'll announce it.

Whereas I figure if they were going to scrap something, they wouldn't announce it, they'd just never speak of it again and hope people would forget. My fear of the eeevil corporaaations, I suppose. Comes from working for them.
