| #1asmodeusloreOct 01, 2010 7:37:31 | Gamma World Excerpts Monster: Porker Gamma Terra is sick with mutants, monsters, killer robots, and dimension-hopping aliens. Most would as soon use your skin for a coat as look at you, so it’s usually better to shoot first and determine what you were aiming at after the radiation level drops off. Talk about this Preview here. ![]() |
| #2rampantOct 01, 2010 10:09:00 | Watch out for the Badder The minute the big shifts or falls he's gonna put an arrow in your face. |
| #3microblessOct 01, 2010 11:16:41 | I have taken out MANY players with Foul Belch. For all you DMs out there with awesome dice rolls, this monster's for you. |
| #4battles14Oct 01, 2010 15:54:42 | I'm just glad that we get to play Bebop in Gamma World! Now, where are the stats for Rocksteady? |
| #5strand0Oct 01, 2010 16:54:26 | <-Comment removed to the Gear Excerpt, it seems more appropriate.-> One more reason not to like the game. (Groan...) Oh... I wish they hadn't gone with these pseudo ORCs, when we are supposed to be able to use real Orcs. Oh! I do think/like that the idea of ROAD HOGS is spot on as a GW type of race/mutation/tribe/cryptic alliance. That is good. |
| #6Tony_VargasOct 01, 2010 17:39:05 | One more reason not to like the game. (Groan...) Wow, you have done a complete about face on this game. What's up? What was the tipping point for you? |
| #7grehnheweOct 01, 2010 18:20:39 | A porker motorcycle gang sounds like it would be a fun encounter to run. I am really anxious to see some stats on Badders, Dabbers and of course HOOPS! ![]() |
| #8strand0Oct 02, 2010 3:22:30 | GW basic creature listAndroid (1) |
| #9strand0Oct 02, 2010 13:39:10 | One more reason not to like the game. (Groan...) Hum...? It is a lot of bits and pieces. Just that the EXCERPTS give more info. It is like when the take a political pole... Generic Candidate does better then Specific Candidate. I was really interested in the GAMMA WORLD that I imagined. But as the specifics have come out My Opinion goes up and down. ... (shrug) such is life. |
| #10ADHadhOct 02, 2010 13:52:41 | I must admit I hate that picture. It's so awful. And I just got into drawing pig people myself! |
| #11strand0Oct 02, 2010 14:28:58 | I must admit I hate that picture. It's so awful. And I just got into drawing pig people myself! ![]() The Porkers are supposed to Road Warrior=type nomads. This one should have looked like Mel Gibson. LOL |
| #12grehnheweOct 02, 2010 16:15:08 | Watch out for the Badder The minute the big shifts or falls he's gonna put an arrow in your face. I had not noticed the Badders in the background of that picture! |
| #13MarandahirOct 02, 2010 18:20:51 | Anybody notice the Beholder on his shirt? |
| #14DuskweaverOct 03, 2010 7:44:05 | This one should have looked like Mel Gibson. To be fair, there are similarities. Especially if one is Jewish... ;) |
| #15strand0Oct 03, 2010 13:09:18 | :Thought Strikes: Does Gamma World have vehicle rules? If Porkers are supposed to love driving... don't we have to have vehicle rules? Are there generic vehicle stats? A motorcycle, car, Pickup, Semi-tracker Trailor? Bike, bi-plane, jumbo-jet? |
| #16ADHadhOct 03, 2010 14:08:54 | :Thought Strikes: That is an excellent question. Now I'm curious. |
| #17Tony_VargasOct 03, 2010 14:38:40 | Vehicle rules have been pretty sketchy in most editions. A functioning vehicle might be a bit of a stretch in a game where most tech items function only once, but, they are certainly, in the text and art of the previews, implying that there are some vehicles. In a game as whacky as GW, where balance and consistent mechancis are less of an issue, it wouldn't be hard to include vehicles without hard and fast (or any) rules for them. Still, at this point in the development of the hobby, there's not much excuse for including things in art and fluff text, and giving them /no/ mechanical support whatsoever. |
| #18rampantOct 03, 2010 19:35:46 | The AV 1 had vehicle rules, failing that there's always the mount rules. |
| #19strand0Oct 04, 2010 3:02:46 | Tony_Vargas noyiced/mentioned that the three riding beasts of GW are missing. Centisteeds, Brutzors, and Pinetos so it would seem the dicision was made to cut riding, but add a muntant race that RIDES. The artwork for the Excerts shows people (PCs) riding in a truck. Should mean some thing. Porkers love internal combustion. ... mean something? |
| #20FlashbackJonOct 04, 2010 9:29:04 | Aside from overland travel rules, vehicles seem to be more something that should be part of the DM's encounter design. Obviously, a vehicle can trivialize certain standard encounters, at which point any encounter should be handwaved. So I guess I throw in my vote for "vehicles used by DM on an encounter-by-encounter basis." |
| #21strand0Oct 04, 2010 15:55:41 | Aside from overland travel rules, vehicles seem to be more something that should be part of the DM's encounter design. Obviously, a vehicle can trivialize certain standard encounters, at which point any encounter should be handwaved. ? What about after an encounter where the PCs now have a Pick-up and a motorcycle? (or do we assume that they all blow'd up?) |
| #22FlashbackJonOct 04, 2010 16:18:34 | What about after an encounter where the PCs now have a Pick-up and a motorcycle? Obviously, the pickup and motorcycle would be factored into future encounters by the DM, per the needs of those encounters. If one of the next planned encounters was an escape from hoggers on foot, this could be successfully handwaved. They don't need static mechanics, only the mechanics necessary in the encounter in question. Consider: in a follow-up encounter where the players are then pursued by hoggers on hogs, the pickup doesn't need, for instance, a speed score: it could simply be a static platform where the driver makes a handful of terrain-based attacks (provided by the DM for this encounter) on pursuers, while the passengers use whatever they have at their disposal. The motorcycle might have a speed, but in this case, only a relative speed would be useful. |
| #23strand0Oct 04, 2010 16:27:35 | Well, I believe you and I could handle it on the fly. BUT, that is where the Game Designers come in. If they didn't want to deal with these elements, then they should have avoided bringing it up. |
| #24FlashbackJonOct 04, 2010 16:29:41 | Well, I believe you and I could handle it on the fly. While I don't quite agree with the latter suggestion (not bringing it up), I have no qualms with them providing static mechanics. |
| #25draven_defayOct 04, 2010 23:23:21 | I really don't see why you need rules for this anyway, I've never used the vehicle rules for DnD and have had MANY vehicle encounters. Vehicle=Plot Element, that's all you and I need to know, and the players never will, the point is that they had fun and you wracked your brain way less than you could have. |
