Officially, no. The MM mentions several different families of dragons, (Chromatic, Metallic, Scourge, and Catastrophe Dragons, [EDIT: and Planar Dragons] IIRC), but not Gem Dragons or Lung Dragons. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that they won't be treated in 4E eventually.

You just might have to wait until MM4 or MM5 before you see them though....

Wouldn't the Catastrophe dragons include some of the lung dragons? I'm not really sure where they're going with the dragon types.

As for gem dragons, golly I miss 'em.

I really like Gem Dragons, but they'll need some rethinking for 4e. Their main raison d'etre was that they were the neutral dragons, not the evil chromatics or good metallics. That distinction is not terribly relevant to 4e. Still, I hope to see them.

Ok, yes one of the big things about the Gems was that they were neutral but other then that there other bid aspect was that they were Psionic in nature instead of magical like other Dragons, We will most likely have to wait until the Psionics power source to be out before we see anything about Gem Dragons. I kinda wish I could find a 2e group so I can play a CotW game as an Amyethist again.

psionic dragons were awesome. I, too, miss them sorely.

I wonder if the Draconomicon will be another of those books that the Wizard who lives by the Coast intends as a sort of open-ended series for 4e (like the PHB, DMG, MM, and AdV)...

It would still be cool...

I just remembered one dragon family that I forgot to mention above: Planar Dragons.

This is exactly what I said in a related thread, the lung dragons had control of elemental forces other non-epic dragons didn't. Divine wind? Tsunami? Lung dragons' dominions.

You and me both… better not nerf psionics too badly so the gem dragons will come out decent.

It was a large family, but to be fair, of those you mentioned, only Battle Dragons and Radiant Dragons were "Planar Dragons" in 3.5E.

In 4E, Shadow Dragons will likely join the family, but the cosmology is plenty smaller too, so it's hard to say who else will be there. (FWIW, most of 3.5E's planes are now Astral Dominions, so perhaps 4E's Planar Dragons will be entirely different.)

Could very well be.

Remember, it doesn't matter at all what the Psionics rules look like, since monsters in 4E don't follow the same creation rules as PCs. Gem Dragons are completely possible even now, without the Psionic power source.

Im not so sure that we will have to wait for the Psionic Power Source to come out for Gem Dragons(if they are to be added at all). We already have Githyanki, Githzerai, and Mindflayers, all of which are psionic in nature.

Why not a 3e or 4e Council of Wyrms? Maybe someone can start a conversion.

ahh, but if the dragono, icon said they were not native to the prime, or came from a plane i considered it a planar dragon.

each to their own

Well from the MM we see there's 5 'true' dragons in each of the 5 families as they say there's 25 dragon species. Of course we also know that Draconomicon I is adding 3 chromatics so there could be more than 25 easily.

For Chromatic we have:
Red
Blue
Green
Black
White
plus the three from Draconomicon I

Metallics that we have:
Adamantium
Iron
Gold
Silver
Copper

Also the origins excerpt of dragons hint at a few of the others:
Catastrophe dragons would include volcano and hurricane themes and are likely unaligned/evil.
Linnorms/Scourge dragons deal with causing inflictions and if they drop the neutral aspect of gem dragons might cover some of them and are likely all chaotic evil.
Planar dragons are dragons who come from other types but have been altered by taken up residence in another plane. They say chromatics are the most prone to this. This is where we might see some gem dragons as well. Also the Shadow and Astral dragons would be a good fit here.

I'm working on a conversion, but I'm corrupting it pretty heavilly with 4th core backstory.

For instance, the Io's Blood Isles are the site of Io's death at the hands of the Primortial King of Terror... and where Bahamut and Tiamat arose to finish the job. They rip the primortal apart and toss his halfes in opposite directions, and one becomes the Burning Sea and the Land of theFire Giants (and Archions), and the other becomes the land of the Ice giants. (and Archions)

I would like the return of all true dragons (ones with age category); gem, lung, ferrous, shadow, fey, deep, fang...
