What happened to the good old days when I could make a character that didn't have to fit a specific role for a certain class? Can't I have a fighter that dishes out damage as well? I'm not looking for a tank on WoW, I'm playing DnD. Can I make a Cleric who can hit something? I know WotC needs to make money, but I'm sure plenty of people bought the fluff books in the past, do you really need to make us pay extra for good feats and three more standard character classes? 2. What's up with DnD insider? Why are they teasing us with this stuff that's not going to come out for like another year? I like it all. They're good ideas, but wait a little longer before tempting us if it won't be out with the launch of 4.0. That's just my opinion. I can tweak things to my liking, DnD allows for that, but I just don't like the direction things are going in and I figured I'd let everybody know. Also, I'm sick of checking the site everyday cus I can't wait for the new insider stuff to come out. |

This is the Future Releases forum...take this to general discussion where all the other 4e = WoW trollers lurk |

Translation: I'm going to flamebait, but try to make it seem like I'm not flamebaiting. 1. DnD is becomming more like WoW. WoW has stolen a lot from DnD. No matter what, any new DnD edition is going to have similarities to WoW simply because of that. 2. The "lack of need for a specific role" that you complain about vanishing never actually existed. The difference is that, for awhile, it was less obvious how some classes filled the traditional roles, while some filled multiple at once. 3. You can have a fighter that takes out the dishes. Nothing is stopping you from RPing it. Just that you no longer have the easy button that was the d20 die. 4. Fighters have always, by tradition, been a tank in DnD. The term "meatshield" originates from DnD for a reason. 5. Sure, you can. You can make a cleric who also wears a burka if you want. Nothing's stopping you. 6. The paying extra for more feats, classes, etc. is a long-standing DnD tradition. WotC isn't the first company to do it. 2. What's up with DnD insider? They're good ideas, but wait a little longer before tempting us if it won't be out with the launch of 4.0. 1. DnD Insider exists specifically to allow you extra, optional, access to more material. Despite the complaints about it, it's actually a bit cheaper than the magazines were and covers the same role. Plus, I can look at it in my spare time. 2. It's a method of advertising it, plus they're seeing if people actually like it. No sense in going live with something if it's universally hated. 3. Also, the fact you have a forum account means you can currently access it. Go have fun. That's just my opinion. I can tweak things to my liking, DnD allows for that, but I just don't like the direction things are going in and I figured I'd let everybody know. Also, I'm sick of checking the site everyday cus I can't wait for the new insider stuff to come out. Check the mainpage once a week. And, if you don't like it, wait. This is just the first set of books. We'll know by March what direction it's going in. |

I do believe that a two handed fighter with a maul can get up to a 6D6 + Str. On a first level daily. I've not seen a striker with that. 4D6 on an encounter. still not bad. |
| #5raven_shadowereJul 14, 2008 1:46:18 | I am coming in from a 2E back background. I too am a little confused, but it is new. I am quite stoked really. My group is broke up for the summer, but once things settle I look forward to some DnD 4E style. As for your issue with roles. This is new to me to. However, I think it is a good idea for new players who are trying to understand combat. For those that do not get strategy the roles give a bit of guidance. I am sure that with a bit of creative energy you can create a few feats and powers that would perhaps allow you to change the role of a given class. My plan is to get to know the system and learn how to make it my own. Just my 2 coppers worth... Cheers!! |
