They seem to like the goblinoids in Ebberon, and with the language thing put up recently. What's everyone think of the possibility the three goblin races will be given full PC write ups in the Ebberon Player's Guide?

While I hope Goblins do get more official stuff, I really don't know if they'll get that attention in the Eberron Player's Guide.

There's the Warforged, Shifter, Kalashtar and Changeling (aka Doppelgangers), which are all core races to Eberron that needs support. And don't forget that Half-Orcs and Gnomes didn't get to shine yet, though I think their time will come with PHB2.

Moreover, the article is related to a novel coming out this August.

My bet would be that the Kalashtar will be the new race included in the Eberron Player's Guide and that Psionic will come in PHB3. Remember that Keith really really loves his Dreaming Dark.

However, I'm still in doubt. Keith suggested to many players before June to play Evil Paladins of the Blood of Vol and Goblinoid parties since the rules for 4E allowed these kinds of play with more ease than 3.5.

Well, we'll never know until the book is released.

I seriously doubt all 3 will get a write-up. It would mean that the Player's Guide would have 4 races (because we've already seen Warforged in Dragon and given it won't be appearing in PHB2, Player's Guide is the next most likely candidate). At best we'll get 1 or 2 goblinoid races in the Player's Guide (most likely hobgoblins if we get any). Although as Rekko says, I'm expecting to see a more Eberron-centered race get a write-up (although Kalashtar would be terrific, I think the best we can expect for the race is an PC entry in the MM3, but that's just me being pessimistic/realistic ;)).

Honestly, I don't think that goblins will get full write ups in the Players Guide, there may be some special Dhakanni/Darguun centric feats, but not full write ups.

I honestly think that the only races we'll get full write-ups for in the players guide are Warforged and Kalashtar. Gnomes, Half-orcs, Dopplegangers and Shifters have enough of a non-Eberron feel to them that they can work in ANY setting, in fact many ARE in other settings, so I expect those races to be in PHB 2.

I just want my goblinoids to get a full PC write up for once... They deserve it, really.

I really hope we don't see half-orcs in the PHB 2; they're the lamest of all races.

Give us orcs, gnomes, ect. Not lame half-breeds which don't add anything :\

Titanium Dragon, have you read Eberron at all? The 'half breeds that don't add anything' are really interesting in that setting.

Of course, pointing this out will do very little if you are so prejudiced against certain races, and don't want to give them a chance.

This.

I never gave two poops about gnomes or half-orcs before I discovered the refreshing taste of pure, mountain-brewed awesomeness that is Eberron. Eberron makes these races interesting.

OP: It seems unlikely that goblins will be in the Eberron Player's Guide; they're much too general, and would be better suited for a Player's Handbook. For EPG, count on Warforged and Kalashtar: iconic Eberron races.

I recall reading recently, (I believe it was Rich Baker talking, but I could be wrong), that he wants to do full PC write-ups for every monster race in MM1, and that we should expect to see at least most of them over the life of 4E.

Goblins, Hobgoblins, and Orcs could make excellent PC races. Give them time, and I think we'll see all of them.

I hope you're right, they're always a big deal in my worlds, and my favorite races. It's also almost impossible to get any DMs to allow the play of one.

Dang Not only do I allow my players to play these races (which I think are pretty cool), I've got an idea bumping around in my head where every player is a goblinoid. Whenever I do run the campaign (first it has to be fleshed out so it feels more unique) I'll of course tweak it so players that don't want to be a goblinoid don't have to be.

Oh no! That innocent goblin village is being attacked by a rampaging gold dragon and cultists of Bahamut! Only our orc, goblin, hobgoblin, and bugbear heroes can save the town!

Hmm...

Yeah, goblinoids work nicely in Eberron, since the setting focuses more on the idea that good and evil are not as black and white as they have been in other settings.
I had no end of fun with my goblin rogue in our Eberron campaign a while back -- he was from Sharn, so he was much more urban than savage, and I very much enjoyed playing up his sometimes-stereotypical street urchin aspects.

I didn't mean to sound disparaging. I meant to express an interesting, if slightly ridiculous scenario that had popped into my head based upon what you wrote.

I may yet try it, too!

One of the things I love about Eberron, there's not really any black and white, but instead it has a pulpy noir texture. With the slightest hint of nutmeg.

The only reason half-orcs are prominent in Eberron is because the settting criteria demanded that it exploit the rules wonkiness/idiosyncrasies of 3.5. Honestly, I still haven't seen anything done with half-orcs that can't be done better with full orcs.

The Half Orc needs to be in the Eberron Players Guide, not the PHB2. There is a better understanding of them and such in Eberron.

We don't need the Orc as a player character. The role playing possibilities from a reformed society is better as tension building encounters rather than a player character rubbing the rest of the group the wrong way, in character and in RL.

The Half Orc is a good buffer between the defeated, reforming Orcs and the humans that are dealing with their own problems.
