| #1alumanFeb 01, 2009 1:00:43 | From the avenger posted to the interwebs. +2 Str/+2 (Wis/Dex) Skills: +2 Intimidate/+2 Endurance Half Orc Resilance: +5 HP upon being bloodied (Assume it rises to 10/15 at paragon/epic) +2 speed while Charging. 1/encounter: +1[w] when your weapon or +1d8 if its not a weapon hits. My notes: I lean towards Dex. I was honestly expecting either Str/Con or Str/Cha, lifting half from the half elf, but I guess half things don't have unifying attribute like Extraplanars (Deva Int/Wis, Tiefling Int/Cha, Eladrin Int/Dex). Attributes assume 16/14/13/12/11/10 standard array (works backwardly with others its safe to assume here as well). |
| #2Crimson_ConcertoFeb 01, 2009 1:13:09 | It's worth mentioning that backwards math doesn't always work out so well when applied to monsters because they're not built with specific rules the same way that PCs are... |
| #3alumanFeb 01, 2009 1:19:05 | 'cept the half orc is a PC not a Monster. Now whether they changed the stats since doing the DnD XP stuff or not is another question. |
| #4GreenKnightFeb 01, 2009 1:23:54 | Str/Wis seems like the greater likelihood over Str/Dex. Which makes Half-Orcs pretty good Paladins, strangely enough. |
| #5alumanFeb 01, 2009 1:25:15 | And would explain why one was an avenger. The Dex is simply due to low AC. Would mean Elves make kick ass avengers, oddly. |
| #6Crimson_ConcertoFeb 01, 2009 1:45:44 | 'cept the half orc is a PC not a Monster. Ah, when you said Avenger, I didn't make a connection to the class and though you were talking a monster stat block. My bad. Still, I wouldn't completely trust those sheets you're talking about. I remember back before the PHB came out and some of those sheets got leaked it turned out a lot of them were actually built incorrectly. |
| #7GreenKnightFeb 01, 2009 1:46:44 | One or two of them had their point buys off by one point. Not terribly different. None of these appear to have odd builds, though, so they're looking accurate. |
| #8ekioFeb 01, 2009 2:08:59 | From the avenger posted to the interwebs. Correction. The Furious Assault encounter adds an extra 1d8 of damage if it isn't a weapon based power, not full damage. |
| #9celticmuttFeb 01, 2009 3:41:08 | Half-orcs are now superior to full bloods. Amusing, but cool. |
| #10DuskweaverFeb 01, 2009 3:58:16 | Half-orcs are now superior to full bloods. Amusing, but cool. But not really new. Half-orcs being superior to full-blood orcs is something that goes all the way back to Tolkein. ![]() |
| #11ReticentFeb 01, 2009 8:41:11 | Hybrid vitality? Anyway, that racial encounter ability looks pretty nasty tacked on to multi-target attacks. |
| #12the_badger_02Feb 01, 2009 8:57:59 | Extraplanars (Deva Int/Wis, Tiefling Int/Cha, Eladrin Int/Dex). Don't forget Genasi Int/Str and Shadar-Kai Int/Dex. Also, hadn't noticed that they all had Int until you pointed it out, very interesting. |
| #13GMforPowergamersFeb 01, 2009 11:04:40 | Half-orcs are now superior to full bloods. Amusing, but cool. They always should have been...at least IMO...the human blood makes the dumb savage into a new type of monster |
| #14MrCelsiusFeb 01, 2009 11:21:14 | They always should have been...at least IMO...the human blood makes the dumb savage into a new type of monster Saged for speciesism. :P |
| #15alumanFeb 01, 2009 13:13:12 | Don't forget Genasi Int/Str and Shadar-Kai Int/Dex. Also, hadn't noticed that they all had Int until you pointed it out, very interesting. I forgot the gensai. The Shadar-kai I am waiting for the offical Players's verision. Bladelings break it, I forgot about their racial writeup, they are +2dex/wis. Still I find it interesting enough that I am sticking by it as semi-offical that a +2 int means something about being extraplanar now. |
| #16Fox_ReeveheartFeb 01, 2009 14:01:32 | hope there is a second avenger build based on con kobolds seem to have it good with avengers right now with dex looking to be the primary so far... unless it's wisdom but it keeps saying weapon attacks so unsure... and there is no sign of an implement on the half-orc avenger or any mention so my guess is that dex is the primary.edit: Unless any weapon they use can be used as an implement.... swordmage rip off anyone? but i doubt it. There can't be a strength build or the half-orc would have just gone that path :p |
| #17lemonfrosted_dupFeb 01, 2009 16:10:01 | Negatory on weapon as implement. The one Implement attack the character has, Abjure Undead, is a raw +4 (wis+1/2 level) attack, where it would be +5 if he could use his +1 spear as an implement. |
| #18asbestosFeb 02, 2009 11:26:39 | Hybrid vitality? I'm pretty sure its only on one attack roll, as that is the only thing that would make any sense. Edit: Yeah, the power says you "hit an enemy with an attack". So, yeah, only would be able to add on the damage to one target/encounter (which is still useful) |
| #19fooliganFeb 04, 2009 11:19:55 | it seems unlikely for them to be str wis though, sad as it is. The confirmation that shifters will be in phb2 means that there will very likely be a +2 str / +2 wis race in there besides half orc, and i do not believe that wizards would print 2 such similar races in the same book. |
| #20GreenKnightFeb 04, 2009 17:02:14 | Shifters could also be +2 Dex/+2 Wis. Or they might be both +2 Str/+2 Wis and +2 Dex/+2 Wis, as they are now. But even if they're solely +2 Str/+2 Wis, there's no reason they and Half-Orcs can't share the same bonuses. After all, how many races have come out, already, with the same bonuses? The PHB gave us the Halfling with +2 Dex/+2 Cha, and then the FRPG came out with Drow with +2 Dex/+2 Cha. The PHB had Tieflings with +2 Int/+2 Cha, and now the PHB2 is giving us Gnomes with +2 Int/+2 Cha. Minotaurs and Warforged already have +2 Str/+2 Con, yet Goliaths are +2 Str/+2 Con. Whatever the case, I'm hoping Shifters will have two bonuses to choose from like they do in the MM. But if they don't, then it's just as likely that they'll get a Dex bonus as a Str bonus. And even if they do get a Str bonus, there's no reason to think that Half-Orcs won't be able to get Str/Wis because of it. |
| #21Fox_ReeveheartFeb 04, 2009 20:39:25 | i'm sorry but I don't see something thats half big lumbering orc to have a bonus to dexterity :P It will make me wonder why elves don't have a bonus to strength. Infact elves and half-orcs sharing any stat is crazy in itself |
| #22alumanFeb 04, 2009 21:55:07 | i'm sorry but I don't see something thats half big lumbering orc to have a bonus to dexterity :P It will make me wonder why elves don't have a bonus to strength. They do. Either Wis or Dex, but its one or the other. Mostly I don't know as I think about it, I would prefer Wis, to simulate organized fighting gained from the human side (IE being ideal as Sword+Board fighters who are pure defenders). |
| #23fooliganFeb 05, 2009 15:06:27 | but having 2 races in the same book come out with the same stat adjustments and similar abilites (a healing racial power that keys off being bloodied + bonuses to damage rolls) makes for alot of redundancy... i also hope that both shifters make an appearance but that doesnt mean it would make sense for them to release 2 nearly identical pc races in the same phb... half orc and long tooth would just be too similar. i think they stagger these things for a reason... but maybe they ran out of leway with the supplements and now will just throw whatever they (we?) want at us... but anyway this is all just speculation... i think id be most happy with a str wis half orce, though str dex would be fine too, but who knows what theyll throw at us, half elf certainly took us for a loop. It would be funny like half orc traded its con for half elfs dex... i wish full blooded orc feats would come out soon... do you think there will be any in phb2? (what with the half race getting to share feats with either sides of the family) |
| #24Mengu74Feb 05, 2009 16:00:33 | Str/Dex would be my guess, with the assumption that Wisdom is a primary stat for the Avenger (which again is a guess). Dexterity likely is a secondary stat, and got the 14, which was bumped up to a 16. Constitution is probably the tertiary (or other secondary) stat. |
| #25MoribundFeb 05, 2009 16:23:47 | Whatever the case, I'm hoping Shifters will have two bonuses to choose from like they do in the MM. But if they don't, then it's just as likely that they'll get a Dex bonus as a Str bonus. And even if they do get a Str bonus, there's no reason to think that Half-Orcs won't be able to get Str/Wis because of it. Methinks shifters will have a bonus to Con, and probably be Con/Wis. Reason (Barbarian Playtest): "Dwarf and shifter barbarians tend to be rageblood barbarians [the Con-based build]". It probably represents the Beasthide shifter type. |
| #26zeratulcraftFeb 05, 2009 16:33:19 | Str/Dex would be my guess, with the assumption that Wisdom is a primary stat for the Avenger (which again is a guess). Dexterity likely is a secondary stat, and got the 14, which was bumped up to a 16. Constitution is probably the tertiary (or other secondary) stat. Or Dex got the 16, and the 14 went to Wis with a +2 racial. |
| #27DSCrankshawFeb 13, 2009 11:46:10 | Or Dex got the 16, and the 14 went to Wis with a +2 racial. Unlikely, as Wisdom's now confirmed as primary for the Avenger, so you'd almost certainly get it up to 18 if you had a bonus there. I'd say it looks like Str/Dex, which is good. |
| #28tyrandorFeb 13, 2009 12:16:34 | Dex is also a secondary stat for Avengers (Many Tact Warlord have higher int than str). He might also have put a 16 in Dex in order to get a better AC/Initiative. |
| #29lightinfoFeb 13, 2009 14:57:30 | There's a Razorclaw Shifter Druid with 18 WIS and 16 DEX. The rest of the stats fall out into the 13/12/11/10 of the standard array. Suggest that as confirmation as +2 WIS, +2 DEX. +2 athletics, +2 endurance. Speed 7. |
