| #2Luis_CarlosAug 15, 2011 15:09:02 | Forgoten Realms is a good franchise. I wonder if other companis could get other D&D franchise like brithright, mystara, blackmoor, red steele, age of wyrns, greyhawk, urban arcana.. 5th is comming soon. I meant now it´s the time to playtesting new rules to get a easier adaptation to future videogames. |
| #3robertread3Aug 15, 2011 15:37:29 | Good now hasbro can give the licence to someone good at producing video games. for once i agree with you, daggerdale was really bad. bioware and bethesda are the frontrunners in my opinion obsidian did great with Neverwinter Nights 2, however they really need to release games that have less bugs in them. so i would be happy with them too. |
| #4LitigationAug 15, 2011 17:59:44 | I think Bioware's moved on from D&D. Obsidian's amazing with the literary aspects (even better than Bioware at those, IMO) but their coding abilities leave a lot to be desired. I'd like to see a collaboration between them and a developer that can actually code. Preferably 4e Eberron. Bethesda's fairly hit and miss in general and have never been strong in the literary aspects. But in any case, this is awesome news. |

I'd like to see a collaboration between them and a developer that can actually code. Preferably 4e Eberron. They've only moved on from D&D because Atari sat on the license. It would definitely be the first choice of many to pick up the license. Although, they are owned by EA now.... |
| #6sfdragonAug 15, 2011 21:14:28 | which means they could still propose one... |
| #7rethgrynAug 15, 2011 21:57:58 | I'd really like a Final Fantasy Tactics style 4e game that was turn based and played like actual Dungeons and Dragons combat. |
| #8incenjucarAug 15, 2011 23:18:27 | Oh man. Fantastic news. I just hope they get with a developer in Washington so I have a chance to get involved. Oh if my years of D&D and video game testing could but collide... Grats to Hasbro. |
| #9robertread3Aug 16, 2011 1:34:27 | I think Bioware's moved on from D&D. Obsidian's amazing with the literary aspects (even better than Bioware at those, IMO) but their coding abilities leave a lot to be desired. I'd like to see a collaboration between them and a developer that can actually code. Preferably 4e Eberron. Bioware's best aspect has always been their ability to create a situation where you can really interact with the game's world. You feel attached to your character and it REALLY feels like your character. i feel they are the best overall choice because i think that the above reasons are what D&D has always and will always be about. Obsidian can make great stories but the guys in charge of their coding department need to extend some deadlines and do more extensive testing. Dont get me wrong though, i wouldent be disapointed if they were the next ones to get the go ahed. Bethesda, makes games that are huge and expansive. There is always so much to do, so many places to go and so many people to see, the worlds they make are not just bigger, but theres more in them. quests happen just by walking down the road, and heck thats how most campagins start off. i wouldent be disapointed with any of these studios, hope they can snag one of em! |
| #10QmarkAug 16, 2011 1:38:56 | Now let's start demangling the rights to the Capcom Mystara games. |
| #11celticmuttAug 16, 2011 1:59:03 | I demand (yes, demand) a Council of Wyrms video game. Just because. Come on, you all know you want to play as a dragon. ![]() |
| #12Style75Aug 16, 2011 6:11:52 | How about Blizzard? Think of it: World of D&D-Craft. ![]() |
| #13Luis_CarlosAug 16, 2011 7:06:22 | Birthright would be a perfect franchise of a social online videogame of economic strategy. Wouldn´t it? Will be eberron online the only D&D MMO? Would you like a game of Dragonlance, Dark Sun or Ravenloft? |
| #14MithrusAug 16, 2011 8:12:45 | How about Blizzard? Think of it: World of D&D-Craft. LOL. I was gonna suggest Blizzard, although I sure hope it doesn't become a clone of WoW. Considering how many settings are available, it would be awesome if an online D&D game actually supported multiple campaign settings. It would take a company with the muscle like Blizzard to pull that off (well) IMO. |
| #15Damon_TorAug 16, 2011 16:54:01 | How about Blizzard? Think of it: World of D&D-Craft. They've got no reason to make any games outside thier own IPs though. Why spend development time on a competing MMORPG when they could make a bajillion dollars more by releasing another expansion for WoW? Plus, they'd have to lease the rights to D&D from Hasbro: they would they incur that expense then their own properties are worth so much more? They'd develop a Diablo or StarCraft MMO before they start looking to share profits with other companies. |
| #16mrsakeAug 17, 2011 22:38:39 | I'd kill to see Valve do a remake of the Mystara games using the Left 4 Dead engine. |
| #17Macrocosm156Aug 18, 2011 16:16:55 | I'd really like a Final Fantasy Tactics style 4e game that was turn based and played like actual Dungeons and Dragons combat. This. Or a 4e version of a game like Temple of Elemental Evil. A tactical turn-based game would really allow them to make a game that was true to D&D. It would be simple to add all or most classes, races, powers, feats, skills, etc. And they could base it on the Keep on the Shadowfell ---> Prince of Undeath storyline so that they wouldn't need to spend too much time on plot/story. They could then use the profits from that game to release a second game based on the same engine but with a whole new storyline set in Forgotten Realms. |
| #18SamrinAug 19, 2011 15:31:22 | I'd kill to see Valve do a remake of the Mystara games using the Left 4 Dead engine. No. They need to stop with the Source engine and come up with a new one. Preferrably with Half Life 3 ![]() |
| #19OgiwanAug 20, 2011 8:37:54 | Good now hasbro can give the licence to someone good at producing video games. This is actually something I agree with you on. No offense, TD, but.....this never happens. So, either this is one of those Great Truths, or my computer will 'splode when I hit post.
I didn't play it, but that's because it looked so bad from the previews. bioware and bethesda are the frontrunners in my opinion Either, assuming they stayed true to the system and the setting, would do a fantastic job. obsidian did great with Neverwinter Nights 2, however they really need to release games that have less bugs in them. so i would be happy with them too. I didn't care for NWN2 at all; then again, I had already moved on to 4e when I picked it up, so that may be it. However, did you ever play KOTOR 2? That was Obsidian's.....boondoggle, and heavily damaged my faith in their ability to make a decent game. |
| #20ah_stormbringerAug 20, 2011 15:16:04 | The game will prob not come out as we have seen it to date. I can't see bioware touching it as they have Knights of the old republic coming out soon. |
| #21SamrinAug 20, 2011 15:38:03 | The game will prob not come out as we have seen it to date. I can't see bioware touching it as they have Knights of the old republic coming out soon. They're releasing The Old Republic this year, but that doesn't mean they'll never make another game again. :P |
| #22Neutronium_DragonAug 20, 2011 16:35:06 | Unfortunately, Bioware getting the nod would mean EA sticking its fingers into things. I'd rather see Bethesda doing it for that reason. I doubt that either would though, since they both have existing fantasy franchises. |
| #23ah_stormbringerAug 21, 2011 4:57:30 | The game will prob not come out as we have seen it to date. I can't see bioware touching it as they have Knights of the old republic coming out soon. The same could be said of blizzard making a D&D game. I for one do not think bioware is stupid enough to make a game to compete with a game they have on the market and they will continue to do updates and prob do expansions for KTOR. MMO's are different than regular games as they tend to stick around for several years getting updates and expansions and the game will continue to move forward. WOTC will have to find another game company to make their D&D mmo as we have never seen a gaming company make two seperate MMo titles yet. |
| #24masterfat78Aug 21, 2011 13:05:35 | Daggerdale was terrible and didnt represent 4th ED. even though they claimed it was.It was like heroes on xbox only if heroes was dropped on its head as a child.I would love to see a new mmo but DDO really wouldnt be that bad if they gave xps out in a different way. |
| #25robertread3Aug 21, 2011 13:36:36 | DDO's issue is they more or less force you to re-run the same dungeons over and over and over and over and over and over to level. but the BIGGEST issue they MUST resolve in the next game is the use of pregenerated characters. daggerdale let you pick from 4 "iconic" D&D characters. there is no such thing as an iconic PC. PCs are what they CHOOSE to be and i can be as iconic or out of my own behind as i want to be. |
| #26masterfat78Aug 24, 2011 22:32:19 | I have an interesting suggestion(so dont shoot me down just yet).SquareEnix swallowed up a few nonjapanese companies awhile ago and theyre known for trying out various kinds of rpgs(they just released a new deus ex game that got good reviews.Maybe they could put out a tactics style rpg using D&D without making a mess with it.Or maybe Im just smoking too much. |

Only good things made by Square-Enix in the last decade or so is the Kingdom Hearts series....and I guess Dragon Quest 8(although that was actually made by Level-5). No idea about how good the new Deus Ex game is(although most Square-Enix games get great reviews just for being Square-Enix games, even the bad ones), but I really wouldn't consider them as a good choice for quality development. |
| #28Darkfeld01Aug 30, 2011 16:26:47 | Square Enix is actually a good choice if you think about it, they did Final Fantasy Tactics and alot ot the same creative team did Tactics Ogre, which square just remastered and rereleased on PSP. Hell they did the same thing with Final Fantasy Tactics as well. Both sold well and are extremly fun to play. These two games basically made the tactical video game genre what it is. I think if they could make a tactics like 4e d&d game (nothing like the d&d tactics which was buggy as hell, damn you atari) with plenty of class and character sprite customization they could have a great game on their hands. Hell i would buy it for PSP, Xbox live, whatever. If they supported it as well with updates and possibly add in a quest creator for the community and some multiplayer support i think it would sell well. |
