| #1MaximumHavocOct 16, 2011 23:53:32 | Heroes of the Feywild Excerpts Welcome to the Feywild! by Bart Carroll Where wonders and horrors beyond imagining lie around every bend in the woodland road. Talk about this preview here. ![]() |
| #2Crimson_ConcertoOct 16, 2011 23:56:17 | I said this in the other thread, but I guess this might be a better place for it: I'm sort of on the fence about the artwork of the Satry shown in the preview. On the one hand, it's always great to have more races that are more than just "Human but with slight modification X", but on the other hand the Satyr was something that I did sort of expect would be a bit more Human-like in appearance, like they appear in the Monster Manual. Maybe this is just one specific Satyr or one kind of Satyr? What do other people think? |
| #3mysticbelmontOct 17, 2011 0:02:22 | Do the dryad race transform into small animals? If so, we got tibit as a different race. |
| #4mrpopstarOct 17, 2011 0:04:21 | He's bearing a title in the caption: Satyr of the Night. Thinking (hoping) that qualifies it as being a different type of Satyr than the PHB Satyr. |
| #5mrpopstarOct 17, 2011 0:04:53 | Do the dryad race transform into small animals? I noticed that, too! |
| #6Crimson_ConcertoOct 17, 2011 0:11:28 | Do the dryad race transform into small animals? I don't think so, I got the impression that was a Druid. Rowena certainly doesn't look very Dryad-like. |
| #7XunValDorl_of_HouseKilsekOct 17, 2011 0:14:53 | ![]() Looks like a Warforged Satyr to me. |
| #8ShinQuickManOct 17, 2011 2:10:51 | That Satyr looks more like some decrepit Minotaur that creeped out of 3rd edition. Also, I could picture what Nistyncia is about to yell out to those Pixies: "You are so small! Is funny to me!" EDIT: Keldar, WHAT ARE YOU STARING AT?! |
| #9Damon_TorOct 17, 2011 4:55:34 | It's very clearly the creature from Pan's Labyrinth. |
| #10MockOct 17, 2011 7:19:45 | It's very clearly the creature from Pan's Labyrinth. Which is pretty cool in its own right, although it's not my preferred look for Satyrs (I prefer something like this, although I confess I'm not sure if that's properly a satyr, or has a different name). |
| #11pruanoOct 17, 2011 8:35:35 | Interesting new approach for the previews series, having an introductory piece that gives some fluff, while also introducing the next pieces; i still preferred the previous format, though. Wondering if they will update it to include links for the relevant articles as well. |
| #12Omnirahk_half-RahkshiOct 17, 2011 9:44:57 | They had me at "pet owlbear." |
| #13IxidorRSOct 17, 2011 10:48:36 | They had me at "pet owlbear." Right there with you, buddy. I am very interested to see what that entails. Maybe a variation on the Animal Master theme, but with a more stout beast companion? |
| #14Style75Oct 17, 2011 11:12:04 | I'm super excited for this book. I've been obsessed with the Feywild ever since it was revealed back at the 4e launch. It's every fairy tale wrapped up into one strange world, perfect for D&D. The description from Manual of the Planes is excellent (the "Bright Beauty" effect) and I hope this book continues where that one left off. So far I like what I see. My big gripe is that they aren't following it up with a DM set like they did with the Shadowfell. I would pay a lot of money for "Feywild: Mithrendain and Beyond". Bring on more previews! |

There's something really fun about playing D&D as a fairy tale. |
| #16alitainOct 17, 2011 12:41:44 | I said this in the other thread, but I guess this might be a better place for it: Well, while it isn't entirely clear cut whether that's how the PC Satyr is going to look, I will say I'm sorta with ya on that I expected them to be half human half goat people. Then again, the artwork MAY be the PC Satyr look and I think it's cool, though as someone said almost like a scrawny Minotaur in a way, but it could be that they wanted the PC Satyr to look different from the monster Satyr because they function differently? I mean don't get me wrong I get that no other race actually looks different from its monster counterpart whether they originated as a monster or PC race, but that doesn't mean Wizards wouldn't do it. I think after the heated arguments over the pixie, I just want the pixie to be clear cut and stated what is. Though the line is the article about a "cursory view" of the pixie lends me hope that they've been withholding the full information about the pixies in terms of mechanics...but whatever. Not wanting to start another pixie debate here, just wanted to mention it. |
| #17RilsOct 17, 2011 14:15:28 | On the other hand, since it is labeled a "satyr of night", maybe it's some twisted evil/demonic satyr that has gone bestial. Since it is being "negotiated with", I'm guessing it's a monster, not a PC/NPC. Guess we'll have to wait and see! |

This makes the most sense to me as well, but I could see it possible as a Paragon Path for the race. Most likely it's a monster and nothing else. |

+1 Actually, I would LOVE a Feywild version of the Underdark book. That was a quality product. Can't comment on the shadowfell box set since I havent' seen it (I have very little interest in the Shadowfell). |

I too would lay down some green for a Feywild-version of the Shadowfell boxed set. They had me at "pet owlbear." That sold me as well! |
| #21FearOfTheDarkOct 17, 2011 20:05:27 | So stoked for this. I've been a fan of the Feywild since the first Court of Stars article was released about the Prince of Frost. Last December, I freaked out over the Bramble Queen. I bought Manual of the Planes in January just to get the most definitive information on the plane. I've explored Dungeon/Dragon articles for everything I could find about the plane, and have still wanted more. I was really happy with the Shadowfell boxed set; I was hoping for a box for the Feywild, but I can't really complain, as the whole thing looks pretty sweet. I'm also looking forward to the Dancing Hut of Baba Yaga. I've wanted more on that character (and other archfey) for a long time now. |
| #22Omnirahk_half-RahkshiOct 17, 2011 21:10:07 | I'm still feeling psyched for the pet owlbear thing, and remember a submission for Dragon I never got quite worked out right: a series for beastmaster rangers to get more unusual companions. Feats and/or paragon paths to represent krenshar, owlbear, displacer beast, etc. as animal companions. Let's see, owlbear was a modified bear, krenshar was a modified wolf, and displacer beast a modified cat. I was also debating basilisk for lizard. But that's when I decided symmetry demanded I find a popular beast for each standard companion. I gave up on that one. |
| #23GarthanosOct 18, 2011 0:32:30 | I am so buying this book... yahsiree bob.... I am so. |
| #42GarthanosOct 20, 2011 20:52:31 | this is the switch rolls class. |
