| #1yellowdingoOct 06, 2010 19:40:56 | Speculate this: Poor Wizards Almanac is a Simple, Quality Product that will allow WIzards of the Coast to Guide the Mystaran Setting Forward withouth having to commit to the rebuilding of the vast numbers of assorted Products that were a part of the Franchise.![]() Now who wouldnt pay for an annual Almanac of Campaign Events? |
| #2Dragon9Oct 06, 2010 22:34:24 | Wasn't that eventually folded into the FR? Like Kara-Tur was? Or am I thinking of Maztica? |
| #3baddaddy777Oct 07, 2010 3:15:22 | No, please. |
| #4dulsiOct 07, 2010 8:36:00 | Wasn't that eventually folded into the FR? Like Kara-Tur was? Or am I thinking of Maztica? Maztica was always part of FR. Mystara has always been it's own thing. |
| #5AaronOfBarbariaOct 07, 2010 13:03:41 | I wouldn't mind seeing Mystara revived as a campaign setting... I'd rather see other things first (like Ravenloft and Birthright), but I'd also rather Mystara than Dragonlance. Probably on account of my love for the Rules Cyclopedia era of D&D. |
| #6DargurdOct 08, 2010 15:02:20 | Nope sorry not for me. To twist a line from a movie "i'd rather cut out my heart with a rusty spoon." There are much better settings that can be brought back first - Spelljammer, Dragonlance and Planescape for example. |
| #7JokkeOct 08, 2010 16:05:04 | But why a spoon Dargurd, why not an axe? |

| #10Plaguescarred1Oct 10, 2010 5:41:59 | That'd be great. Mystara was born as the default setting back then when BECMI came out. The Blue Box Expert Set had a map of it and we did a our first delving and explorations in and around Darokin, The Forest of Alfheim and Specularum. This place will always bear some respect if even just for the nostalgia. It's where it all started for me....like my birthplace. |
| #11jahatch28Oct 11, 2010 18:17:29 | I too started in Mystara and Hollow World and had to make the heartbreaking decision to part with almost all my Gazateers after all these years when moving and trying to cut down on clutter... The only problem with Mystara in 4e was it was sooooooo civilized... not really a "points of light in a sea of darkness" but certainly would be interesting for a more political campaign setting... and of course, there is the Hollow World which was fun, but hard to run a real campaign when ever territory was a completely new civilization... As much as I love Mystara for the sake of being what I know, I have to agree that I'd rather see someting else, like Ravenloft or Spelljammer or Planescapes that all can link the other campaign worlds if necessary... but, I don't feel like I've explored the current settings enough that I need a whole new campaign world yet either, so ... to each their own.. | #12yellowdingoOct 12, 2010 9:33:56 | So you would rather see a new setting where you and the rest of the colonists crash a two mile long slave barge carrying assorted PC races into an uninhabitied planet while comming out of Spelljammer space and are forced to colonize every square mile from day one to survive. But you are slowly discovering that you are not alone... "What the hell?" Frankov watched as something passed the corner of his eye and vanished again. Someone screamed and blood sprayed across the tight group of survivors. They panicked now. "Stay together!" Frankov heard their leader's deperate cry as he attempted to keep control of the situation. Frankov turned his back to the Group and looked out into the greenwood. Something was moving through the deformed trees of this alien world. What ever it was, It moved like a flock of small birds, but was much smaller. Another scream came from behind him and he had to resist the temptation to look. He had his own bag of problems to deal with right infront of him. |

Unfortunately, My GM was never fond of it. It'd be nice if they did release it cause my new GM has a lot of history with the setting. I'd finally get my chance to explore Mystara. ![]() |

You can update yourself with the current history over on www.pandius.com with the Mystaran Almanac which covers the events of the setting as created by fans of the game for the years AC1014-AC1019. The revival of the Poor Wizard's Alamanc would be a perpetuation of that - hopefully. |

| #17celloshaneOct 15, 2010 13:48:30 |
Not to be obtuse Salla, but from what I've seen of you views you appear to reject the vast majority of printed fluff. Is there any published setting you would use? |

There is also a great deal of Mystara for 4E activity going on at the Piazza message boards -- definitely worth looking into. |
| #19MThomasonOct 15, 2010 17:29:38 | D&D will always = Mystara for me, and there's nothing I'd like to see more than a couple of hardback Mystara campaign setting books and a return to the yearly Almanac. Maybe a "Points of Light" tweak in the form of a major political breakdown after the loss of Alphatia that has resulted in entire nations collapsing back to the land they can immediately control around their cities, while tribes of humanoids roam the wilderness. Strangely enough, that's the setting for my upcoming 4E campaign... |
| #20Great_ZamboniOct 23, 2010 0:26:39 | I'd love to see Mystara get some official 4e attention. I do agree that one of the problems with the setting is that it's another fairly generic fantasy setting, and FR and the Nentir Vale setting have that pretty well sewn up, but I loved the Savage Coast, the Hollow World, and the whole mythology of the Immortals - which, by the way, could fit just about perfectly with 4e's Epic Destinies - and I'd certainly buy an updated campaign setting guide or similar. |

Campaign events seem to be moving toward the absorbtion of the Raidance by the Night Dragon Synn - culminating in a Cataclysm that will throw it all into chaos (No Magic and No Clerics). The only spell power after that will be held by obscure barbaric shaman subcultures. |
| #22havardNov 01, 2010 2:16:25 | Would I like to see Mystara return? Definately! Campaign events seem to be moving toward the absorbtion of the Raidance by the Night Dragon Synn - culminating in a Cataclysm that will throw it all into chaos (No Magic and No Clerics). The only spell power after that will be held by obscure barbaric shaman subcultures. That is your interpretation only. There are hundreds of directions that the setting could be taken into. -Havard |
| #23CmdrCorsikenNov 06, 2010 13:39:28 | The question I have: Who at Wizards has the necessary passion for the setting? Which of their writers/developers has a deep understanding of the setting and would be loyal to what has come before? I certainly don't want a 'reboot' of Mystara similar to what the Realms received. |

She has already discovered the existance of the Radiance in the AC1019 Almanac on the Vaults of Pandius - The Night Dragon is an exceptional intellect and will eventually realize that she needs to absorb the RADS during the Day of Dread (All her rival Wizards will be without Magic Spells). Basically teleport in to the Cavern in the turn before theMagic Fails and Absorb Away for 24 hours. Then she will be (a) Immortal - if she isnt already, (b) A Nuclear Power, and (c) a Radiant Dragon (pardon the Humor) Conceivably she could become 'The Goddess of Magic' for a 4E Mystara Setting with all other immortals 'Cut off' from Mystara and their Clerics by the shock of 5000RAD being Absorbed. |

WotC R&D Guy1: "Hey, how 'bout a revival of the Mystara setting?" WotC R&D Guy2: "Wouldn't that make OpsKT happy and less angry?" WotC R&D Guy1: "Oh, nevermind then." |
| #27opsktNov 30, 2010 20:25:30 | Exactly. They hate me. Personally. The fact that I like Essentials was an accident. |
