| #1FearOfTheDarkSep 27, 2010 17:58:51 | I just got my copy of Heroes of the Fallen Lands today (awesome stuff), and it mentioned that Humans will be in Heroes of the Forgotten Kingdoms. I found this slightly odd, since they are already found in Fallen Lands. I'm assuming this will be the same write-up we've seen before. Any ideas on what they are including it again? |

If so, that's a strong indication (IMO) that all the subclasses/builds in HotFK will have proper at-will attack powers rather than the modified basic attacks of the HotFL fighter and rogue. |

After all, they really do not need a second Human racial write-up to make the bonus at-will power a legal alternative to Heroic Effort -- the rules update from a few weeks ago already took care of that. Since both Heroes books are close to the same size, I hope that Wizards is using the space used in the first book for general game rules to cover hybrids, multiclassing, and other "advanced" options for the Essentials class. |

Oh, I fully expect that. The idea, I think, is that a new player only has to buy either HotFL or HotFK, not both. One of the big design goals of Essentials is to serve as a cheap and easy entry point to D&D. That's probably also why the races and classes are distributed as they are between HotFL and HotFK. The most archetypal race/class combos each require only one of the two books to build and play (dragonborn paladin, tiefling warlock, eladrin wizard, dwarf cleric, halfling rogue, drow ranger, and so on). Believe it or not, I think a lot of Essentials was quite well planned out. |
| #7melloredSep 29, 2010 8:58:43 | Some noob just picking up the new will not know dragonborn make decent paladins. And someone who only has the PHB1 won't know that Dragonborn make good sorcerers. So what's your point? For all we kinow it will have MBAs like the slayer, & that is not a good design. There's nothing wrong with the slayer. It's a simple straight forward class designed for people who want a simple straight forward class. |

I think it was a great move on Wizard's part, and the books and everything turned out really well. Granted, I just started playing DnD for the first time in February, so the Essentials stuff has a lot of resonance with me, as I'm still pretty new, but I think Essentials rocks. |
| #10iqwinnOct 03, 2010 1:21:17 | Frankly, I don't have a problem with either essentials or 4e. I tend to think of it in this way: 4e is what is used in "Europe", while essentials could be the "oriental" system, and perhaps a mix of the two would be in the "Middle East". It's all good. |
| #11DuskweaverOct 03, 2010 7:37:55 | and perhaps a mix of the two would be in the "Middle East". You mean we're doomed to see a vicious and seemingly endless conflict between two groups of fanatical zealots who each believe they are following the One True System, when actually they're just two slightly different ways of approaching the same game and are fully compatible? ![]() It's only a matter of time before Frothsof changes his catchphrase to: "I hit it with my sword because GOD WILLS IT!" |
