Hybrid Feats

One of my favorite things from 3.5 was the class combo feats in Complete Adventurer

Back then they just did things like make your class lvls stack for some things, and sometimes they would have cool stuff happen when you combine things like Sneak Attack and Stunning Blow or made it so your Animal Companion and Special Mount could be the same creature

I'm thinkin it would be cool if they did something like that again; feats for specific class combos with hybridclassing that make the two classes complement each other further

Like a feat that allows you to use Sneak Attack and Oath of Enmity on one attack with a really cool bonus effect

Or a feat that makes it so Divine Challenge also Curses the target

Or a feat that makes your Beast Companion effected by Guardian Forms

Any ideas on what else they could do

What about powers that can be taken by someone with two specific class, like an AoE ranged daily with a Dragonsoul kicker and the Rage keyword

This.

I hope the Wizards up there on the Coast go and do something like This.

The sheer number of feats needed would probably kill this idea before it got off the ground.  Also it would undoubtedly lead to furthering the gap between good combinations and bad ones.

That said, it sounds like an awesome idea.

I don't think it should be done for all combinations, just one's that make sense stat wise and could be Interesting as a Hybrid

Some combos don't need help to be better, but they could be made more fun or interesting, like Warden and Barbarian

But if they share at least two stats and the combo still needs some help, Like Paladin and Rogue, then the combo feat and powers might strengthen the combo as well as make it more fun

Or if it's an interesting combo already but needs help because it only shares one stat, like Avenger and Assassin, then a combo feat and some powers might be good

But something that makes little sense, like Shaman and Rogue, there would be no need for any feat or powers

And yes, it will further the gap between good ones and bad ones, but who cares about the bad ones. I do think it will help balance hybriding with regular classes and cheesy hybrids though

Given that, when PH3 comes out, there will be 600 hybrid combinations avalable, even providing more than a tithe of them with feats is completely impracticle, short of a dedicated Dragon article.

I don't understand why I would want to take these feats. You can already combine OoE and Sneak Attack. You can Curse and DC the same target (just takes another minor).

 a dedicated Dragon article.

This, please.

Might be a fun thing to houserule for specific characters though.

First of all, you don't have to take em, like any feat they would be optional. And these are just off the top of my head, if you have a better idea I would be happy to hear it.

FYI, you can't use Sneak Attack and OoE on the same attack as a Hybrid, those features only work with powers from their class; only when multiclassed as either through feats can you stack em and then you can only do it once.

And I never said you couldn't do those things, the feats would just make things come together better.

They have feats for specific Race/Class combos, I don't see how this would be any worse.

I'm hoping hybrid is balanced as-is so we don't need to patch it, meaning these feats are not even wanted, much less needed.

Hybriding is balanced, depending on what classes you choose

I'm not saying they're needed; I hate the term "need" in the context of D&D rules, because we don't really need any rules.

What little balancing that these feats would do is to balance combos within Hybriding, not balance Hybrinding itself.

The real goal of these feats is to make some class combos feel more like an actual class, to give hybrid characters more of an identity

I think they should actually be made to make the most unusual combination fit better. Only Hybrids where they don't use the same attack Stat for exemple.

Yeah if they give a couple of feats to the worst combos it would balance it out better.

ClericRogue for exemple is a pretty lame combination. At best the Rogue side uses STR as secondary and the Cleric side uses STR as main or they both use CHA as secondary (and that makes for the better skill set).

I don't think that's lame compared to others, the cleric rogue at least shares some secondaries with primaries.  The same can't be said for a combo like Invoker/Rogue.

Yeah, and if you pick Ruthless Rufian throught your Hybrid Feat, you'd actually get a pretty good combination. Str/Dex 16 pre-racials, and if you go Half-Orc you're fair game.

Anyway, I agree with the idea. A Dragon Article with this would be excellent.

Oh yes InvokerRogue is pretty bad...didn't think of that one. Wizard/Paladin isn't all that great either unless you go Illusionist Wizard (oooh Paladin of Sehanine!)

Well a good article would probably end up in the Dragon Annual.

Maybe if Hybrids really take off we'll see a 'Hybrid Power' book :p though I have no idea what kind of stuff you'd find in there...

See, it could help inspire players to make interesting characters just like you were with that idea

There could be a feat called Devoted Arcanist or Eldritch Knight that allows you to add your Int modifier to Divine Sanction dmg or something. And maybe there's an Illusionary summon power that Sanctions on attack, that requires both Wizard and Paladin as your class

Well I think some of the feats and powers that we've been talking about would have a chance at being in a Hybrid Power book

Maybe instead of a specific 'Hybrid, Paladin/Wizard' feat though it could be a 'Hybrid, Paladin/Any Arcane Class' feat? That would cut down on clutter.

I think hybrid feats should be based on combination of roles or power sources, and very general ones such as:

Hybrid Power

Prerequisite: Hybrid Class
Benefit: Once per Encounter one of your hybrid class powers also count as a class power for your other hybrid class.  This allows you to apply benefits from both of your hybrid classes to that power.
