I cant believe you said that because my favorite character of all time was actually a Gnome thief/illusionist by the name of Glim Fonkin (no I didnt steal the name from the 3rd edition players handbook). It was a first edition character and now that I saw the new gnome I'm REALLY thinking about trying to remake him, if not for a game at least just to play around with everyonce and a while.

We've known that the half-orc is a +2 str +2 dex race for somewhere around a week. So how is that along with an extremely vague statement supposed to convince us that you have it? It isn't like I care, I mean we already have something like 3-5 people giving semit detailed spoilers of the book(one of which has been posting images of the feat list). I'm actually just sort of confused as to the point of this thread.....meh not like I ever get other people.*shrugs*

Does it truly matter whether the OP is lying or not about having the PH2....

Either way, he has shown he has no interest in giving spoiler information, and even if he did - he would likely repeat what SBT has already said on another forum in his 69-pg spoiler thread.

That is, if he reveals anything about class powers/features/paragon paths/feats.

If he gives us information about specific background options, that would be new information (which could be verified by asking SBT).

In any case, it doesnt matter if he has it or not. Everyone will have it in 5 days. If he's lying (and Im not saying he is), it would make me feel sorry for him for the fact that he feels the only way to boost his self-esteem is to have spoiler-starved fans hanging on his every word in an online forum........

Thats the epitomy of sad if ever I heard it.

Cantrips should be at-will powers for Gnomes, in my opinion. It's not like they have any real mechanical effect other than general utility, and why would a Gnome only be able to use Ghost Sounds every five minutes or so?

Wait...what were we talking about again?

Oh yeah...Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow? I hope she can pull off a Russian accent...

Heroic tier Sorcerer feat. +1 to attack rolls after hitting with a Sorcerer at-will power.

Thats the text from the table of feats for the classes. Unfortunately I don't have the PH2 myself to see the actual duration of that bonus to hit.

Jools' pics of his PH2 here are where that came from, if you were wondering.

I've got to wonder, what is the point of this thread exactly? There are PHB II spoiler threads to be found on various boards where people with the book are actually providing detailed information on feats, powers, paragon paths, etc. This is not one of those threads. Or at the very least, it hardly seems it at the moment.

So far all we have is "Hey, I've got this book." Well my goodness. Just blow me over with a gentle summers breeze why don't you, though please not before I can alert the media. Not meaning to be rude mind you. It’s just an observation. So spill some info, otherwise this is a whole lot of commotion over quite literally nothing.

As a final point:

If the books are selling in certain stores now, there will be a torrent by tomorrow I guarantee it.

Quoted for truth. A big release like this is going to hit the net quickly. By tomorrow, everyone will have it. Or could anyway.....

You're correct, it isn't cryptic in the slightest, but that hardly indicates that there's a point. Perhaps I feel a need to question it because of my specific background as it pertains to message boards. Threads are generally created to generate discussion. More specifically, they're meant to generate discussion that deals with a topic loosely related to the subforum in which they're posted.

In the case of this subforum, we're meant to be discussing future releases to some extent in any thread posted here, be it in the form of rumour/speculation or because some hard piece of evidence has been leaked and ends up making the 'rounds. This thread is going end up comprised of posts that say little else other than:

"Yay! I have this book early!"
"Good for you!"
"I'm going to the same store to get mine early."
"Darn, I wish I could get it now."
"Gee, only four more days until I can get it."

So on and so forth. What's the point? Threads like this belong in a general discussion subforum at best, and more aptly in an off-topic subforum where the entire idea is for people to make generally pointless comments.

So again, unless people intend on giving us information on what is still currently a future release, why is this here? If it's not posing a point for discussion, then it shouldn't exist.

Before I part ways though, I offer up the reason that I only ask this question because my own membership/mod history (especially the latter) on other boards would see a thread like this get shutdown as spam before it hit page two unless people starting spilling the beans.

Make of it what you will.

I love real stuff compared to computer text. I love having a book in my hand rather than searching through a pdf, you can't haul a computer to your lap and read it before you fall asleep... well maybe a laptop you can but I don't have one though those get hot and made my legs sweat like something else with those covers on too. =) who wants a clumsy pdf when you got the book? ^_^ NOT ME!

I figured the point was also to name a place that had it for those interested. And to let us know places other than Japan had it now :P

I might get a digital version to go with my hardcopy since it is a PHB and can be handy having a digital copy for quick reference when I don't have the hardcopy handy since I'm more likely to have my laptop than my books most of the time.

I agree with others though, having a hardcopy book is nice for reading. The digital stuff is handy for quick rules lookups though. An editable digital format would be really handy so I could embed the errata into it

Sorry, haven't had the chance to look at the classes in that much detail yet... At a quick glance, their Spirit powers give them a controllerish feel (but maybe thats just me).

If you want to know something more specific, I would be happy to ablige.

Oh, and for those who are interested - I absolutely love the Glorious Spirit ED.

1/round they can deal considerable striker-damage (+2d8) to a specific enemy*, and if that wasnt enough, 1/encounter they can teleport adjacent to any creature they can see!!!

The best part - this ED is open to any primal character!

*Unfortunately, they can only designate 1 target/encounter [BBEG anyone?]

I don't think the OP's point in posting that he had it was anything other than a sort of ...na na na na na...thing. Amazon Japan shipped it to their clients the second it arrived in their warehouses and have had it for like almost 2 weeks.

This was nothing more than a taunt and possibly a head's up to folks in FL who could drive down to the store and pick one up early...I know if I lived there I would. I saw last night that I could order it from them online and theoretically, if I paid like $20 extra it would arrive tomorrow, but I already have 2 copies coming for my sons, plan on buying the PDF at midnight Monday and picking up my own copy at the local BN (with my 20% off coupon) Tuesday morning when they open.

Now if he really wanted to impress me, he'd take shots of all the avenger pages other than the first two which were already leaked to the internets...but I'm not holding my breath.

So congrats to the OP enjoy the book...you've got it one weekend before me...

Lorekeeper
Save its 30th level ability, I would have to rank the Lorekeeper as one of the least powerful Epic Destinies, but one whose powers are the most coherent with its theme. Its abilities capture the essence of the Sage archetype perfectly, although fall well below the power-curve from a power-gamers perspective.
  • 24th: Roll 2x for Ritual skill checks; double Casting Time to reduce component cost; Critical Hits grant +2 Attack 1/rnd.
  • 26th: True Name - Encounter; You + Allies get +INT or +WIS mod to damage rolls vs. single creature.
  • 30th: 2 daily utility powers become encounter powers.

My waldenbooks was selling copies at 3pm Friday 13 2009, when I got off work and wandered in to grab Dungeon Delve. I bought one.

If people are looking for places to score one early other walden books may have them as well.

(It might be a borders, I can't tell the two apart)

Let me just say I was super impressed with the book and it exceeded every expectation I had for it. Only thing that looked average was the invoker, which I already had sort of low hopes for. Everything else was cool looking. (I did skip reading gnomes though) Made me long to play my old half orc rogue from 3.5 again. (he was hilareous)

It's good/bad/awesome?
Which epic destinies are allowed for avengers?
Can you show any epic feats for the avenger?
Pretty, pretty, please. Thanks in advance.

glimeral_dup

Mar 14, 2009 0:01:28
Harbinger of Doom 21st level (no other reqs); Its power-level is so-so but it looks like a lot of fun to play.

It grants the ability to reroll Nat 1s*, stun enemies who roll nat 1s*, make a save/spend healing surge when an enemy is dropped, and gains temp HP on a complete miss.

Their daily utility is pure awesome: All enemies within 3 squares of you grant combat advantage to allies, cannot teleport, and take 5 dam each time they miss with an attack*

*Each of these abilities is awesome for a controller/multi-attacker, but bad news for an enemy controller/multi-attacker.

Avenger Epic Feats (1): The avenger has 1 epic feat (Mighty Emity), which allows them to pick 2 oath targets 1/encounter.

My physical copy is in the mail right now... got an email from Borders that it was shipped. Should get it any day now.

I just want to confirm the OP's story. my local gaming/book store had them in stock (apparently didn't know he wasn't allowed to sell b4 the 17th). One of my gamers showed up to my session this afternoon with it, and gaming was immediately suspended as we went there to buy copies. Myself and 2 of my players now have the book.

Avengers are sweet, but I don't know how I'll implement them yet. Looks like Razorclaw shifters will be one of the best races for them.

Half-Orcs are the new Brutal Scoundrels.

Racial Paragon Paths rock HARD. Dragonborn with wings, as promised in Races and Classes.

No love for the drow and genasi though, at all. Althugh they are mentioned in the section about backgrounds.

@Koesherbacon-
Druid PPs are: Sky Hunter (as in the preview), Blood Moon stalker (which focuses on Beast Form), Guardian of the Living Gate (looks like Eberron's Gatekeeper sect), and Keeper of the Hidden Flame (caster druid PP, uses a familiar face for the pic - Vadania, iconic 3e druid).

And finally....

ZOMG Sorcerers!!

  • 26th: True Name - Encounter; You + Allies get +INT or +WIS mod to damage rolls vs. single creature.
  • 30th: 2 daily utility powers become encounter powers.

Thank you for this. It does seem a little... light on the actual power, save for the abilities it gets at its very last level, but you're right, it is sagacious. I might just have to take it instead of Demigod or Archmage.

So, I have a quick question... how bad is the power creep in the book?

(I have been a little apprehensive.)

Couldn't tell you TBH as I haven't had more than a passing glance at each individual power (and have yet to compare them to their PH1 counterparts).

As far as the feats go, they seem reasonable IMO save WE/IE, which (IMO) should have only granted a +1 bonus at Heroic/Paragon, and +2 at Epic. Again, I havent looked at the feats too closely yet.

Honestly, I will leave it to the ChaOp people to figure out the power creep, although there is some really nice powers that (on the surface) seem incredibly powerful.... (eg. Dazzling Ray). Then again, the sorc isnt the only class with a 6d6 daily at 1st level (most 3[W] powers are capable of the same damage output).

Actually, no: we all now that the "leaked" PDFs come directly from WotC, or at least from the printer (they have typographical indications all around). And I've yet to see a torrent for PHB II.

The first ones did, I'm told. Of course, I have no first-hand knowledge of such underhanded dealings, but reliable sources inform me that lately the pirated pdf:s rather look as if they were bought from drivethru and then had the watermarks removed. In any case, they're certainly not scans.

And drivethru only releases pdf:s on the official release date. Ergo, no torrents until then.

Id say its pretty balanced. The only thing I think is that the arcane characters in the phb need a boost up in power from arcane power. Not much of one just a little bit of a leg up. I will say that this book actually makes me want to play a barbarian for the first time ever. The class is actually really interesting. The only other power creep is Im concerned that Devas get a little too much for racial buffs. But I like everything else in the book.

As an aside Drow and Genasai already have racial Paragon paths in Forgotten Realms Players guide so they did not need them in this book. Turathi Highborn does look amazing for my tiefling warlock.

sorry i cant think of any thing to prove it : /

I was just kidding around ;)

Just got back from the store with a shiny PH2 in hand, so I can confirm that at least some places are selling them [not that 4 days early makes a world of difference, but meh].

It makes a huge difference to gaming stores that abide by the street date, as those who can't wait 4 days will take their custom somewhere else.

Four very long days.

You think you've got a long wait. I can't afford it until at least October (assuming I get to start a Eberron home campaign as I hope to).

On the bright side I've got 9 characters that are level 1 that I want to progress to at least level 4 before I start playing PHB2 characters. Each character has a unique purpose:
* A gnoll rogue who I'm making into a gladiator
* A rogue whose simply a brute thug who will work for the highest employer.
* A rogue who claims to be a travelling merchant but in reality simply uses it as a cover to sell his ill-gotten wares
* A beast-master ranger
* An archer ranger
* A two-weapon fighting dahmpyr ranger who seeks out a missing hero from his country in order to save it from a a power neighbouring country and possibly even gain acceptance for himself one day.
* A warlock
* A Warlord
* A Dwarven Fighter whose part of a clan that my friends are in.

On the other hand they're all LFR characters so they'll take approximately 63 games to get to level 4. Given I'm now often DMing, that could take until the end of next year. So its quite possible I won't wait that long :P

I don't think the OP's point in posting that he had it was anything other than a sort of ...na na na na na...thing. Amazon Japan shipped it to their clients the second it arrived in their warehouses and have had it for like almost 2 weeks.

This was nothing more than a taunt

Are we really this bitter? Someone comes on to do a "happy dance" and share their joy and make us part of it and this is the best response choice we can offer? I think this sinks us to an all-new low.
#67

glimeral_dup

Mar 15, 2009 21:00:02
Actually, Im not bitter at all.

While it failed to come across in my writing, I was actually trying to say that there is no good reason for the OP to be lying about having the PH2 early, and that it would require someone to have a very low self-opinion of themselves if they felt the only way to gain attention was to lie about having a pre-release product to spoiler-starved fans.

For the record: I believed the OP. The only reason I worded my post the way I did, was due to the fact that I was attempting to appeal to the PoV of the nay-sayers (those who claimed he was lying), and show them how illogical it would be for the OP to be lying, esp. in light of the fact that (almost) everyone will have it on Tuesday.

Now, I could understand someone lying about having it a month or two ahead of the release date, but 5 days.... Thats just illogical, and (on the off-chance) that someone actually did lie about having it so close to the release date - I would feel sorry for them.
#68

tigerdave

Mar 15, 2009 21:07:31
I was just trying to be diplomatic and appeal to the PoV of the nay-sayers so that they would listen (and back off). In hindsight, I should have just shut them down without being diplomatic lol

The rest of us can take solace in the fact that the PH2 is only about four days away from official release.

Four very long days.

Yes they days will be long but you know i've had been tearing sheets of paper off a pad ever since i first heard about it coming out so I think i can wait just a few more... even if it IS getting to be harder and harder to wait.

What do the sorcerer's paragon paths look like? Anything interesting for the dragon sorcerers that makes them more viable for melee? There already appears to be a feat that gives dragon sorcerer's temporary hit points on an at-will strike.

Do what I do: Calmly push the thought of the PHBII to the back of your mind and focus on something else entirely. I plan to order my PHBII online, so I won't even have the book in the next few days, maybe by this coming Friday though. Either way I'm patient enough to wait. Well my favorite paragon path is for the other build. Wild Mage. Looks really really cool. Arcanewellspring has an encounter power of getting wings. Dragonsoul Heir is all about healing and temporary HP. One of the level 11 things you gain is 2 extra healing surges.

Not so much on the melee side. Though there is one power that is melee. Everything else is either close burst/close blast or ranged. Though quite a few are range of 5. While some are range 20. A lot of blast and bursts though. It seems to be a cross between striker and controller, except where the warlock gets effects the sorcerer gets multi target.

I just downloaded a PDF of the PHB2 from drivethrurpg.com. I've only had the chance to peruse thus far. But, I am impressed.

The ability bonuses for Half-Orc surprised me a little. What really surprised me is them getting Giant as their extra language instead of Goblin. Devas are, overall, cool. Since I think they were a bit overdone, I'm sure most will find them pretty friggin' sweet (as it seems to usually go). Gnomes rule. Honestly, I think the Goliaths are a smidge underpowered. Shifters are pretty much the same - just choose either Liono or Cheetara and go.

I'd have to say that Warden is my favorite class in there.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the backgrounds write-up. I'll have to give that another read before I decide if I like it or not.

Arcane wellspring is neutral. Wild Mage is of course for the wild, and dragonsoul heir is for the draconic. There is one more neutral one wich looks like the old acolyte of the skin. Called Demonskin Adept. All in all plenty of options for the sorcerer.

With Amazon, don't pre-order anything. Always wait till the day of to make an order, then expect to see it at your door in 1-3 days time, depending on what shipping you use of course. I made my purchase today, and I expect to see it by at least the 19th. No pre-order, no fuss, no worries.

Sad Fact: Amazon will always ship out "now orders" over "pre-orders" on any product they carry, once that stock become available. Always.

I preorder from Amazon all the time and get it the day of or maybe a day or two later when I choose standard shipping. In fact, my PHB2 was sent out to be shipped Sunday and should be here tomorrow.

Only once had a problem with them back when I ordered Libris Mortis when it came out, they sent me an apology and said the would send one next day for free when they got more in.

7th of April for me. I gather this is WotC's doing, rather than Amazon, though. They apparently don't really want British people playing their game, since they don't send anywhere near enough copies of their books to British retailers. It's not just Amazon that's affected by this.

To quote the rather frustrated guy at my local book shop: "We don't know what they're playing at. We might not even order any more Dungeons & Dragons books from Wizards since they've been so unreliable."

They are constantly understocked: the D&D shelf is always half to two-thirds empty and new releases don't come in until weeks after the official release date, and then they only get one or two copies (which sell out pretty much instantly, of course).

That's a shelf that could be (and it sounds like it will be) filled with more White Wolf and Games Workshop books. At least those companies seem capable of supplying enough stock to meet the demand.

Also very happy with the contents of the book so far. I had planned to skim the races (especially goliath and half-orc) but surprisingly found myself interested throughout and read the entire chapter. I especially loved all the races artwork! (I have never wanted to play a gnome or a half-orc, ever, before now.)

From the impression I get so far the book looks to be really well done. I'm excited to read more.

I too had forked out for super fast delivery as one of my players wanted to try out a bard on sunday so i knew i needed it asap. trying other sources, amazon have said this to me on the matter after a heavily worded letter of complaint

hank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk

Firstly I would like to apologise for the length of time it took us to inform you that the delay in dispatching your item "Player's Handbook 2: A 4th Edition D&d Supplement (D&d Core Rulebook D&d Core Rulebook): Bk.2 (Dungeons & Dragons)".

We were working hard with our suppliers to obtain further stock and improve on our availability estimate, but much of this is dependent on further updates from the vendors themselves.

Unfortunately, our reliance on suppliers and manufacturers for information about their stock means that, occasionally, our database will not reflect all changes.

Please note that the availability and dispatch times listed on our website are estimates only while we do our best to adhere to these estimates, our inventory is constantly changing based on information we receive directly from our suppliers.

However, if you still require the item it would be worthwhile seeing if it is available from a third party seller on Amazon.co.uk Marketplace. An item being offered for sale by third-party sellers will be indicated by a blue box marked "More Buying Choices" on the product's information page.

For your reference, I have included the direct link for the item which is offered by third party sellers:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/0786950161

We hope you will understand as a retailer we are solely dependant on supplier to fulfil customer’s orders and when the supplier is unable to fulfil our demand we in turn are unable to source the item.

In addition to our large selection, one of the benefits we'd like to offer our customers is convenience, and we have not met that standard in this case. Please accept my sincere apologies. We appreciate your business and hope that you will give us another opportunity to prove the quality of our service to you in the future.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in this regard, and thanks again for shopping at Amazon.co.uk.

Which i take to mean its pot luck who got a copy and who didnt, the other offers for a copy start at £26 so above the retail value plus postage within 3-7days in other words useless.

Tried other suppliers but still awaiting a confirmed delivery time..

If it is a wizards issue im really not very impressed.... as i have been waiting a long time for the book and dont want to wait another two weeks

I think everyone in my group is going to eventually get it. But then our group is pretty good about having the books. The only book that not everyone has is martial power and only the dm and guy playing the fighter has it. Though I will be buying arcane power the minute it hits the shelves.

It's odd; when I preordered my book through Amazon, they told me it would be shipped on time. The day of the book's release, they told me in an email it wouldn't arrive until Thursday (as it was still in NJ on route from Delaware to NY). Then it arrived Wednesday afternoon.
