Image in the Invoker Preview

Alright I'm looking at the image in the Invoker preview. For those who can't see it, it is a purple guy in armor pointing while holding a sword.

Now the only race that I am aware of that is purple is the Genasi(I forgot which type). However one of the major points of the Genasi is that their "hair" is basically an elemental manifestation. Additionally, this guy is lacking any of the body marks that Genasi have, although they could be hidden by the armor. So if he isn't a Genasi, then what is he?

I think it s fairly clear that he is the first image of the new 4ed Devas! So beyond being purple and having hair, what can we tell from this image? The Invoker has a yellow mark going across his face that looks almost like a mask. Also you can't see his pupils. Clearly this means that Devas are superheroes......okay maybe not that. :P Another thing that i noticed is that the Invoker has wings coming off of his armor. These look like they are made of the armor itself, but it is worth thinking about.

Oh hey cool, you can view the image without being logged in. I'm not retyping my post though.:P So anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Nitpick: With the angle he's holding the weapon at, and the fact that it's so broad and doesn't appear to be tapering at all, I think it's a staff. Makes more sense for an invoker.

And I totally agree with your Deva guess. Judging from the statements in the invoker article, Devas are almost certainly +2 Int/+2 Wis, which I think is awesome. Outside shot at +2 Con/+2 Wis, of course.

That is definitly a Deva, I see none of the obvious markings of a Genasi.

Unfortunatly I see the Deva being Con/Wis. Designers seem to be avoiding the Int/Wis combo for some reason, maybe entirely because of the Wizard class.

Maybe holding a Int/Wis race for the psionic classes. I'm rather sad that they don't are the wis/cha race. Maybe the kalashtar are reserved for wis/cha.

Perhaps...I'm sure we'll see every combination eventually at any rate.

It would make a lot of sense for it to be a deva since that race is specifically mentioned in the text as making very good invokers.

Yeah, for my part, I assumed it was a deva when I saw it since it was the invoker preview. Plus the wings, though I was curious why they were Archangel style. Kinda cool!

I doubt that all of them will be lavender. I think other light or metallic colorings might work, like olive green, dusky sky blue, or dark bronze. I'm kind of thinking of the old (ha...well, 3e) MM pics of planetars.

Hmm.....I don't see the aforementioned hair in the pic.

Assuming that it isn't a sword, he still has a sword at his hip.:P

Sorry I guess that is part of the helmet, I'm on a bad monitor right now.

I think its a double bladed sword he/she/it is holding.

And it does look like the Armor has wings on it.

I suspect it's a staff he's holding (maybe a polearm of sorts) and he does have a scimitar at his hip. I'm not sure his skin is really lavender/purple as it may just be the lighting in the pic making dusky skin have that purplish shade to it.

The yellow face marking seems to fit with the 2 devas we've seen in print so far (though they've not specifically stated being devas) as having odd markings and other features that make them seem 'not quite human' and tied to their immortal/angelic legacy.

The wings do appear to be part of the armor and not part of the being.
