In the new preview for Legendary Evils, Peter mentioned that all the monster stats for Draconians will be in the new Draconomicon. My opinion: This means Dragonlance isn't the 2010 CS, even though this year is the 25th anniversary of DL, I think it will be a few more years, otherwise they would have only done one or two draconians and then gave us the rest next year in the CG.

By that logic, that implies that WotC will never make any more Draconian monster stats ever, even if they make a Dragonlance CS a few years later, because all of them will be in the Draconomicon 2.

I think what was meant is that all 5 Draconians will be represented in that book, but different versions of them could appear in the Dragonlance CS, different weapon specialities, higher level, etc.

We already know that at least eight different varieties of Draconian will appear in Draconomicon 2 -- one for each type of Metallic Dragon, including the new Cobalt Dragon.

Just because they will be "new" in draconomicon 2 does not mean that they cannot be reprinted, or supplemented in something in the future (like a DLCG)

I can see supplements, but reprints I seriously doubt. That was one of the main faults with 3E (IMHO) and something 4E is supposed to eliminate: duplication. I just think between the comment about next year's CS will be a surprise and the Draconains being in the next Draconomicon, that DL won't be for a while.

Iron, Adamantine, Brass, Bronze, Copper, Silver, Gold and Cobalt, eh? Wonder what Iron, Adamantine and Cobalt Draconians do when they die...

The Warforged and Minotaur would like to remind you that "supposed to" and reality are different.

Draconians seem to fill a very similar niche to dragonborns. Actually, I wonder why dragonborns were not simply named draconians? Draconians already have a fan-following, and the name sounds better anyways.

So you are thinking that the monster version will be in the DNC:2 and a PC version will be released in DLPG? Interesting....

(FYI- I don't consider a monster version and a PC version to be the same thing, so it's not duplication since they are for two different applications)

MM2 has duplicates of monsters from MM1. Just saying.

Negative, I was referring to their original publication as a fully supported playable race in dragon and then their reprint in other sources.

Actually, I was under the impression they made it clear that was a playtest/preliminary version, not the final version which ended up in EPG. I know they have said that the PHB3 info was going to be released early on DDI, but that's hardly a duplication.

The Wilden are the only race that have appeared in dragon as a playtest. All other races (warforged, minotaur, gnoll, shadar-kai, and revenants) were fully supported "final" versions that were originally supposed to "only" appear in dragon. We see how long that lasted...

Can you cite the article where it said "only" in dragon and "final" version please.

I cant tell you about the other races, I was under the impression that they were simply early write ups that would get more info and greater support, but the Revenant is an Insider exclusive. A sniped quote from the Ampersand article in Dragon issue number 376.

This month, we kick off a new rollout of exclusive material for the Dungeons & Dragons game that you can only get as a D&D Insider subscriber. This exclusive material won't appear in any core rulebooks or supplements, but it will be totally official and ready to use if you're a D&D Insider subscriber. We start out with the revenant. . .

IIRC, they have different versions of the same breed of monsters: gnolls, goblins, hobgoblins, etc. But the statblocks are different. Hopefully, that's the deal here.

Where in any of those articles did it say Playtest? The only article that implies Playtest in any form is the Wilden, no others.

There's a lot of material to cover for a decent Dragonlance campaign guide and PHB. Moving the monstrous version of Draconians out to Draconomicon 2 frees up a lot of room for other material.

I was mixing the warforged with the artificer article, my bad. Still, there is a difference between providing something in advance in the pages of an online magazine and printing the final version in a source book.

I used to think exactly the same thing, given that I'm not a Dragonlance fan; however, a number of DL fans convinced me that Draconians have their own role to play, and that that role is as monsters only.

Draconians are largely unsuitable as a player race.

If I am not mistaken (and I could easily be given my lack of DL knowledge) Draconians are large and have flight both of which make them poor choices for a playable race. That and dragonborn are chromatic and draconians are metallic, I suppose thats the only difference I'm sure of.

Only some of them are Large, and only some can fly, but you're right about them being unsuitable. One more reason is that Draconians' most iconic abilities are only usable upon their death, which is most unsuitable of all.

That and dragonborn are chromatic and draconians are metallic, I suppose thats the only difference I'm sure of.

...What? I'm not sure why you think this, but there's not really anything at all "chromatic" about Dragonborn, especially when you consider that their default scale-colour seems to be bronze.

Did you perhaps mean Dragonspawn? Yes, those guys are visibly chromatic. (There haven't been any metallic dragonspawn yet, AFAIK, but there might be in the future; OTOH, there are chromatic Draconians in DL, they just aren't very common.) At any rate, I think that we've got more than enough different varieties of draconic humanoids now...
