| #1shadowelf1Sep 13, 2008 7:19:35 | This is my official attempt to see if we can bring back Ravenloft. I have been following Ravenloft ever since it was just a module. In my opinion, Ravenloft was the best setting ever created and it would be a shame if it just disappeared off into nothingness. I hear that Strahd is mentioned in the DMG, and some of the books were reprinted. But I would love to see the whole thing come back - new novels, new source books, new adventures Anyone that agrees that Ravenloft should undergo the Raise Dead ritual should say so below....lets see how many TRUE RL fans are out there |
| #2outlaw68Sep 13, 2008 7:24:53 | you might be interested in this http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4news/20080910 Apparently with Dragon Mag next month part of Ravenloft will be rolled into the core. I am thinking as part of the Shadowfell.. I am looking forward to it, Ravenloft has always been my favorite setting for running one shot adventures. Especially in the more standard domains.. like Barovia etc.. |

| #5jasonaburtonSep 19, 2008 12:19:53 | LONG LIVE RAVENLOFT! |
| #6hlethvagiSep 27, 2008 14:23:36 | Ravenloft was my favorite realm to read about, but not that much of a favorite to run. Maybe it was my players having no "sense of disbelief" or something, but noone acted scared........ever. I guess they just missed the idea that their chars had never been scared or were so jaded that nothing scared them. Either way, running the Ravenloft games were never as fun as they should have been. The old second edition books were amazing reads though. Hlethvagi |
| #7thegrizzSep 27, 2008 15:11:43 | I love Ravenloft as well. I am hoping the new stuff in Dragon will do it justice. However if it counts for anything Dear Wizards of the Coast R&D BRING BACK RAVENLOFT!!!!!!!!!!! After all you gave us Ebberon and that was no where near as good. |
| #8patriarchbogueSep 27, 2008 23:17:39 | i don't Role Play anymore, but i still love to read the novels. I am starting to new novel Heaven's Bones tonight. I am sad the WofC chose not to campaign setting of Ravenloft like Vampire of the Mist. U don't destroy the world we play in and keep us buying there product; but i will give the new books a try. But it is going 2 be very hard to beat Christine Golden's Ravenloft. |
| #9jekrel_steeljaws_dupSep 28, 2008 4:34:30 | don't think RL would be useful like some other settings the amount of horrific background of the adventure should be left to DMs just to appeal to some goth minority, nah |
| #10mortaviusSep 28, 2008 12:50:55 | Funny how though, after Ravenloft was released, for awhile it was the most popular D&D setting...beating even the eminent Forgotten Realms and DragonLance... Guess that was a time when those "goth minorities" were the only ones buying games, eh? |
| #11Luis_CarlosSep 28, 2008 15:34:03 | I have a doubt. Do you rebember the scene of past (middle age) from the movie Underworld evolution? What if I would like a Ravenloft campaing with monsters PCs (vampires, shapeshifter, mummies, half-golem/punk-warforged, wraiths..)? Was Vecna in Ravenloft? How did he escape? And Kas the vampire? The last thing I read now he was a vestige in a Dragon magacine. Have you read the marvel comics of ghost rider and sons of midnight (blade, morbius, darkhold..)? A great soucer of inspiration, aren“t they? |
| #12torynSep 28, 2008 16:28:32 | I would love to see a 4th edition version of Ravenloft. That setting, along with Dragonlance, are my favorites, followed by Eberron. Hopefully, if they do make it, they will not screw it up. I would also like to see a 4th edition version of the Dread Necromancer. They could even put it in that book.:D |
| #13mortaviusSep 29, 2008 10:43:14 | Was Vecna in Ravenloft? How did he escape? And Kas the vampire? The last thing I read now he was a vestige in a Dragon magacine. Vecna was in Ravenloft for awhile. He invested so much power into his avatar that the Dark Powers were able to grab him. However, it took all their power to hold him, and he conspired to lure Iuz (from Greyhawk) into the Demiplane. Once there, Iuz thought he would kill Vecna, but instead Vecna used his trap to defeat Iuz and absorb (most) of his essence, thus pushing him from a Demigod to a true God. This allowed Vecna to break free of Ravenloft and escape, directly into Sigil (where Gods are supposedly not allowed). This is all in a 2E adventure called (I hate this title) "Die Vecna, Die!" The module is actually decent enough. There are many theories that posit that Vecna planned even his capture into Ravenloft, for this whole event to allow him to break into Sigil, as well as become a complete god. Kas was also in Ravenloft, but it's believed that it wasn't the actual Kas, but a facsimile, due more to infuriate Vecna (as Kas' realm was next to Vecna's and they fought). |
