Let the People Vote for Visible Minis

May 19, 2009 18:38:13 I may not know all the reasoning that goes behind selecting which minis get full visual representation and which ones will be random, but I would think that asking the community which ones they would prefer to see visually so they can make sure they get multiples of the ones they want will help prevent boxes of minis with unwanted cover minis from collecting dust.

There's a few of the visual minis that I would probably only buy 1 box of because I wouldn't ever use more than 1 of that mini in an encounter.

Would it be plausible to do a player vote to see what the majority would prefer to own multiples of?

I think it would be, at the very least, nice to have a pack of minis called the players choice minis - what the OP suggest, minis that are chosen by the customers.

I'm still wishing they did packages of minis based on race. For example, a pack of minis that has a dragonborn in heavy armour, one in leather, one in cloth, and male and female versions, etc etc.

I know I would like a package of let's say an Orc encounter with several minions, an Eye of Gruumsh, couple of brutes and a leader.

So, instead of random packs, we would have encounter packs. I think that's catchy.

May 19, 2009 21:42:07 I think that having fully visible packs of Minis in the same vein as the Heroes sets would actually lead to an increase of sales for D&D minis. As it is, I'd much rather buy Reaper and Games Workshop figures since I know I'm getting a box of 19 Orcs when I buy from Games Workshop. Mostly It's because I don't want to buy D&D minis, look at what I pulled from $100 worth of product and say "Wow...Not enough minis for a good orc or Goblin encounter...but I have 2 young gold Dragons...Suck."

In the long run I think I end up spending more on randomized boxes because of that fact then I would have for individual or encounter packs. Question is is it a good business move for WotC.

How do you feel about public voting about which minis should be the visible minis, assuming the current format?

Please discuss encounter packs and totally non-random distribution (for the umpteenth time) in another thread. Thanks.

It could be done in a format much the same way that the MM2 competition is being done.

Use all the minis already compiled for the set, just let us vote to see which one we want to grab several boxes of.

Agreed. Lord knows I'd vote on a box with a visible Huge Green Dragon (4E-style).

May 20, 2009 0:05:02 While knowing that I could get that Huge Green Dragon would be great, but I would only want one. I would look for visible minis that I would want anywhere from 2-5.

I don't see myself buying more than one Aboleth Slime Mage. However, I might collect 2 or 3 of the trolls.

I pretty much cast my vote on the current heroes line, and I voted NO. Gah they are UGLY!

OTOH I just spend 2x the amount for all six packs on rares from the back catalog that I missed. Beholders FTW!

May 23, 2009 23:11:57 Honestly, this would be against the best interests of WotC. They want to save the absolute most-demanded minis as randoms to encourage chasing. Also, having super-desired visible figures could create other problems. For instance, if they ever made a beholder visible, that mini pack would fly off the shelves way to quickly, leaving all the others behind. Their best bet is to put interesting, visually cool monsters as visibles, and let the iconics be chasers.
