| #1NydeJul 27, 2009 13:21:14 | I remember playing a certain advanced D&D adventure back in the mid 80s where our group ran into a couple pixies and a fairy. I only vaguely remember the battle but I remember the creatures were highly magical and had many charm spells. It was a blast even though they handed our butts to us. I remember thinking afterwards …Note to self. Don’t take fairies lightly. ![]() I just searched and to my knowledge , please correct me if I am wrong, there are no miniature representations for Wisps, Fairies, Pixies or sprites. Why? Please Mr. Lee add these to the wish list for Monster Manual 3 & future Miniature Sets. I am very surprised that this group have been overlooked. |
| #2NydeJul 27, 2009 20:47:56 | Are there not any other Dungeon Masters finding this a bit odd? Especially if you DMed back in the Advanced D&D days. ![]() |
| #3ront_iron-roarJul 27, 2009 20:50:29 | Yeah, I am a bit dissapointed there aren't anymore more fey. I like the Feywild and I'm dissapointed there aren't more fey. Also I can't wait for them to bring back the Rast and Yrthrak. |
| #4NydeJul 27, 2009 21:03:34 | Yeah, 4e could really use some highly magic dependent creatures. These Fey can make very interesting challenges like dealing with high charm spells, holds and teleports. Also they would make awesome looking miniatures, my wife would LOVE them. Of course she'd want to play a fairy. lol |
| #5starleenaJul 28, 2009 10:57:56 | Yeah, 4e monsters can be blah. The fey you mentioned would be an exciting addition and would make very cool minis. a leprechaun might be cool too. |
| #6subsistcyberJul 28, 2009 11:32:56 | I agree. When I started DnD again and bought a plethora of minis for my game, I was surprised that when I typed in "Fairy," "Pixie," "Nixie," "Sprite," and "Wisp," nothing showed up. I ended up using lil clear markers for the figs during the battle. Very surprised that 4th edition would have a whole realm dedicated to fey (Feywild) and yet wouldn't have any stats or minis for the creatures that first come to mind when someone thinks, "Fey." On a side note, I'm also surprised that they havn't made any stats for "typical" elementals. It seems the only elementals that can escape the Elemental Chaos are hybrids... |

Great point, I was discussing this with a felow DM who also found it very odd there were no standard Elementals. They've got some great miniatures for elementals. Come on WoTC get with it! |

| #10the_fanJul 28, 2009 15:22:34 | Some that really need to be updated are the Blink Dog, Kraken, and Dragonne (well...maybe not that one). Otherwise, the heraldry of the Dragonmarked Houses makes little sense. Unless they used mythological animals. Griffons? Yeah, those are everywhere. Blink dog? Now that's just silly. |
| #11NydeJul 28, 2009 17:25:15 | So do fire and ice archons not count? Kinda but what we were getting at is A water elemental. Like the large miniature they have for it. Also a Large Fire Elemental and a Huge Fire Elemental again they have miniatures for these...nice ones at that. Also a Large Ice Elemental. |
| #12marzionJul 29, 2009 9:25:35 | Are there not any other Dungeon Masters finding this a bit odd? Especially if you DMed back in the Advanced D&D days. I find it very odd and like the rest of you I also find it odd why there are no NORMAL Elementals in either monster manual... and no an Archon is not a Normal ELEMENTAL. I use to fear running into fairies and pixies as I played a neutral evil wizzy who would always have to attack them on sight. I was killed more than once but it was fun. Are you all sure there are no minis for any of the common fey? ![]() |

Since the elemental planes became the elemental chaos the new elementals are normal, IMHO. Bel |
| #14subsistcyberJul 29, 2009 10:57:09 | Since the elemental planes became the elemental chaos the new elementals are normal, IMHO. I think the new hybrid elementals are great! But to not release any statistics or data on a plain fire elemental or water elemental just because they renamed it "Elemental Chaos" is just plain dumb. Let 4e DMs use those lil 3rd edition elemental miniatures for what they're intended. Edit: I don't mind creating my own stats for the elementals I wanna use, but it's good to have a basis that's considered canon. |
| #15ambulacetusJul 29, 2009 11:52:27 | I imagine the lack of miniatures for tiny fey in previous editions had as much to do with practicality as anything else. I am no expert, but sculpting a fairy sized miniature has to be difficult. I bet they would either require higher precision equipment (thus making the tiny miniatures actually more expensive!) or come out looking no better then a blob of brightly colored plastic. Personally, I like the direction fey and elemental creatures have gone in 4e. Cute and diminutive fairies are really a fairly modern invention anyways and don't have much to do with the original mythology. To me, fey should be dangerous, unpredictable, strangely amoral, and just a little bit. . . off. Now, that shouldn't stop little spell casting fairies from existing and I'm sure they will come around eventually. However, until then 4E custom monster making really is quite easy. If your interested in small enchanter fairy's make some and post them on the monster boards, you'll probably get some good feedback. |

Did you ever fight a fairy in old versions of D&D? They were not always so nice, or at least my DM didn't play them as such. They could bring fairies back as unaligned and they don't have to have them look like twinker bell. 4e really needs stuff like this as too many monsters are hack n slash or variations of a theme. I did think of the fact that they may be a bit tricker to make because of their size but look at some of the very cool Kobold models, and they're very small. Just make them rare. I did find willow wisps on page 290 of MM2. The miniature for them would be easy as pie to make. |

To me, fey should be dangerous, unpredictable, strangely amoral, and just a little bit. . . off. I don't think that there are enough different fey in 4e and that it's a bit boring. Fairies, brownies, sprites etc can be made to be a bit more nasty and entirely fit in with 4e. like nyde said they don't have to look like Tinkerbell (not Twinker Bell NYDE lol). As a female I find 3.5 more fun as I loved the 3.5 Druid much better than the 4e version. I still play 4e but I'd love to see more fey to give us females new and cool monsters to interact with. Roleplaying against pixies and fairies would be a lot of fun. |
| #18AvinJul 29, 2009 17:45:16 | I couldn't care less about 4E silly elementals but wanna register my vote for more 4E fey and tiny miniatures! Hope 5E get rid of Elemental Chaos. |
| #19NydeJul 29, 2009 21:35:52 | I don't want all of those cool Elemental miniatures to go to waste and being a traditionalist I want more traditional D&D monsters. Fairies, pixies, Brownies, Elementals, are all on my list. |
| #20dartanbeckJul 30, 2009 19:36:54 | I did find willow wisps on page 290 of MM2. The miniature for them would be easy as pie to make. Certainly! Simply make a small base with thick card stock or foam board and stick a round-headed pin in the middle. ![]() |
| #21dartanbeckJul 30, 2009 19:45:09 | I wonder if one of the accessories they have in the works is all on the Feywild, with a pile of inhabitant creature stats as part of the tome? If this is the case, it would make more sense for such creatures to be so unavailable in the MM's out so far. I remember the difficult situations that a Nymph would create when I was an early D&D player - she, too, is missing from the mix. |
| #22joydyheeJul 31, 2009 9:45:59 | I wonder how far along they were with the Feywild minis set before it got scrapped. Did anyone here ever see a list? It seems like they have disbursed some of them into the newer sets...perhaps we'll see more. I would hate to think that they were in there and got completely scrapped. I love fey. I ran a dark fey campaign once; one ambitious fey was more than enough for the campaign foil. I threw in a bit of house-rule stuff (time distortion traveling down an eerie path that showed up in the woods at midnight, lots of "playful" but dangerous traps), and it worked out really well. Definitely are able to play up the "off" side of things as was mentioned above. |
| #23NydeAug 04, 2009 21:43:25 | Yeah, I hope Peter Lee reads this thread. There are so many colorful traditional monsters(creatures) missing from 4e. It makes 4e a bit bland. |
