I think a problem for the bow lords though is that most will tend towards intelligence for  the AC, not to mention because they can take some tactical goodness.

However, atleast unlike the shaman who has a part of himself in melee, the bow lord can sit a ways back and shoot arrows from safety.

They should have made the bow attacks also use dex if you wanted.  Doesn't bow feats require dex?  (being never used one in 4e, i don't know but it seems pretty logical to me)

second, actually…  I responded after the official write-up stuff.

Shardmind is true: it was mentioned on WotC's twitter for D&Dexp.

I agree, Janx, Bowlords are probably going to tend to go Str|Int|Wis, rather than Str|Wis|Int for that very reason.  But maybe some will want some of the Insightful Warlord's powers, and will go the later occassionally.

Would you happen to have said link to that twitter?  I wonder if it's that red golemesque figure in a single pic that was shown wearing some sort of breastplate and having a sword and one hand was enlarged

Oddly enogh, the 19-20 bow  feat doesnt have ANY stat requirements. There's not alot of other bow feats out there to my knowledge, except for crossbows.

There are a couple bow-type feats that require something like a 13 Dex.  Far Shot is one such (increase projectile range by 5).  However, Prescient Bard already is a build for a class that doesn't use Dexterity, but uses bows.  They too would have to invest in Dexterity, so this isn't like a shot in the dark.

What this probably means is that Dex-desiring Bowlords will probably go Str|Wis|Dex, using the Wis riders rather than the Int riders.

Hot damn!  Hopefully MP2 will make up for that lack of bow feats (don't we have a ranged rogue coming as well?).

Hit the previous posts enough times and scroll down.  It's in there.

Also: Paint the Bull's Eye.  It was mentioned here as a power that could be pumped up (a la Domain feats) by the Adamant Arrow Student Combat Style.  That was our first evidence of Bowlords.  This followed through with the actual power.  Sweet.

Interesting that everything can trigger off Int or Wis, when a Str/Wis Warlord has no AC, and would need to buy heavy armor prof with a feat.  Warlord|Paladin would be very interesting, though: Hybrid Talent for the armor, use all implement-based paladin powers, and make the Divine Challenge acceptable with Mighty Challenge.

How do y'all feel about Paint the Bull's-Eye?  As compared to Magic Weapon, it does less immediate damage, lacks the inherent +1 to hit, and affects only one enemy, but it also affects all allies and not just adjacent ones.  A great choice for Str/Wis or Str/Int half-elves.

Losing Chainmail and Light Shields seems like a perfectly fine loss in favour of military ranged.

I told you it was going to cost them something.

Indeed, though light shields are hardly a loss, couldn't use them at the same time as a bow anyway.  Chain armor however is a loss, at least to anyone trying to favor WIS as their secondary, however, for INT bowlords it's barely noticeable as they'd probably favor hide anyway.  So yeah, it TECHNICALLY costs them something, but it's pretty much an all upside trade from a practical standpoint.

Free bow profiency for any 2-handed taclord.

Though i'm slightly disapointed in it not being Dex based (for stealth), i'm glad that it can be used with exsisting powers.
If there was a "use int or wis for stealth" power/feat, then it would be re-awsome.

Cursory evaluation ...
1. Risky Shot ... why?  What's leadery about this power?
2. Inspiring Shot ... guh?  Triple W damage, reliable, encount ... wait, it's a daily with encounter red instead of daily black.  Never mind.

Somewhat interesting, but probably not enough to shake me from playing TacLords.

Yeah but since some of the powers use Int riders, your Taclord now has some options when it comes to thrown weapons. So far it seems like your better off being a Taclord and maybe have an couple of powers that let you toss a heavy thrown weapon around.

AFB but isn't there a spear enchant that will let you toss around your great spear?

why does every one think going Str/Wis/Int is bad?

you dont have to pick up the longbow proficiency...stick with crossbow and keep the armor.

Dwarf warlord in chain weilding a superior crossbow people.

You loose access to Chain Armor and Light Shields with the new ranged build. So if you want to go STR/WIS you'll have to spend a feat for Chain Armor. Since it looks like the powers will have both INT/WIS riders you're better off ditching WIS all together unless you plan on multi-classing. CHA is still a better tertiary stat.

Str/Wis could spend a feat on chain and get a solid RBA, or you can a feat on a superior (x)bow.  Seems like a solid enough trade-off.

As for the skirmisher, shift 3-4 with an action is pretty solid.  Dunno if i'd take it over tactical, probably depends on the riders, but it's a nice alternitive.

Your wrong. You dont have to take the Archery warlord class feature. Just pick up skirmishing presence and pick ranged powers. WIN/WIN.

Only disadvantage is i dont get to use str on ranged basic attacks.

Wow you're right. I thought the two were tied. Actually now it makes me wonder why anyone would take Archery Warlord at all. Chances are you'll be spending a feat for Superior Crossbow or Greatbow anyways. You shouldn't be making any RBA's to begin with, you should be giving them out.

It's still nice to have another option for getting the prof, I'm always happy to find a way around taking a feat.

Well by not taking a feat for Superior Crossbow you're denying yourself an accuracy bonus. But obviously to each his own. I have yet to see an Artificer, Ranger, or Ranged Rogue that doesn't use a Superior Ranged weapon besides Drows using Hand Crossbows.

Remember crossbows take a minor action to load, unless you spend another feat or grab a specific enchancement.
