| #1dabutcherMay 09, 2009 14:35:51 | It's kind of far ahead, but what do you think will be coming at us for Martial Power 2? We know we're going to see new fighting styles, but what else? Personally I'm hoping for... Fighter Mebbe a dual shielding "I AM INVINCIBLE" type build. Probably best for parties geared towards range. Ranger A trap making build please? A trapsmith ranger would fit awesome with the class and might actually make me play one. Probably uses a bow where the BM used a sword. Rogue Better poison options. I know some are out, but I don't think they're very good. Warlord We've already taken up most of the ideas, but I'd like a strong ambush style warlord. I would say maybe a nova that has everyone hide then lash out for crazy insane damage. Post! |
| #2brotherjgizmoMay 09, 2009 14:41:04 | I don't think we'll see more builds, rather I think we'll see fighting styles, feat trees, weapon specialization and powers. |
| #3sigil_beguilerMay 09, 2009 14:50:27 | Some stuff I would like to see:
|
| #4dabutcherMay 09, 2009 15:02:16 | I think new builds are likely because WoTC knows we want shiny, new stuff to toy with. They know that if they put cool new stuff in the new books, more people will buy them. But a book full of powers, fighting styles, feat trees? Sounds like Dragon Magazine. Some stuff I would like to see: Mebbe we will even see firearms in Martial Power 2! Sweet. |
| #5johnthedm7000May 09, 2009 19:13:32 | I'd personally like to see "style feats" that encourage the use of iconic, but somewhat suboptimal weapon/shield choices. Such as: Legionairre's Style (Bonuses with at-wills when you're wielding a light blade and a heavy shield) Einhander Style (Bonuses with at-wills when you're wielding a light blade and nothing in your off hand). Retarius Style (Bonuses with at-wills when your wielding a Spear and a Net) Iron Claw Style (Bonuses with at-wills when using spiked gauntlets or Katars to attack) A couple of more multi-class weapon specialization options for sub-optimal weapons like the Rapier. An intelligence based rogue build focused on either skill use, swashbuckling, or group tactics. Perhaps some new weapons with associated ________ training multi-class feats (such as boomerang). A build (or powers) for the warlord that will allow him to command from the back. More 2 handed love-I think dual wielding, while quite cool has gotten more than enough attention. So no pressure WOTC....no pressure WOTC Although for every spelling error and broken or ridiculous mechanic I will *KILL YOU* (best spoken in Jeff Dunham's Achmed the dead terrorist voice). |
| #6Omni-WyvernilMay 09, 2009 21:41:26 | In general, some things that could make an appearance: - More feats to cover underutilized weapon types (spears, picks, maces). - Racial options for new races from PHB2, Eberron, and PHB3 (if it comes out before MP2). Goliath fighter and shifter ranger options may be a distinct possibility. - Maybe some paragon paths that incorporate elements of other power sources into martial classes (sort of like that shadow-flavored Swordmage class). For instance; Primal Ranger, Arcane Ranger (arcane archer, though some of the new Bard builds supposedly cover this), Ki Rogue (sneaky, unarmed brawler that relies more on cheap shots than technique). |
| #7MarandahirMay 11, 2009 0:50:01 | Int-Rogue. I want my Dex/Int Rogue Eladrin. |
| #8Tharag_BoccMay 11, 2009 2:37:09 |
|
| #9ignizMay 11, 2009 6:49:23 | Didn't we have this already. Fighter Shield focused maybe Swashbuckler maybe with some Ranged powers? Ranger 2h Rangers City Rangers - Urban focused Rangers Maybe a more controllery Build option Rogue Scouts - replaces SA with Skirmish, nature focused rogue Ninja build option? Warlod Oppressing pressence, more controller like Strategist - Ranged or Bow focused Warlord with Dex focused powers. |
| #10twin_throwing_axesMay 11, 2009 8:34:53 | I would really like to see a 'brawler' fighter build where you use a one handed weapon and a free hand to do lots of grabbing/wrestling type stuff. Trading durability or damage for more control or stickiness. |
| #11MalckussMay 11, 2009 17:11:54 | Two Weapon Rogue build; or better yet, ways to make your weapon style not be Affected by your class. |
| #12OrzelMay 11, 2009 18:14:21 | Sidekicks/Apprentices for Warlords. They follow you. |
| #13WhiteHarnessMay 12, 2009 8:17:10 | I'm praying for a few bones to be thrown to Heavy Armour builds. They have fewer options available in terms of both feats and class features than do light armour builds. |
| #14dabutcherMay 12, 2009 17:51:15 | I've read some ideas, and here's my revised list... Fighter
Ranger
Rogue
Warlord
Overall
Probably the thing I want the most is a trap ranger. Taht would be teh roxors |
| #15munchmausen1May 13, 2009 11:46:08 | As likely as anything: Options for the new races from PHB2 and EPG. Not that Goliath Fighters and Half-Orc Rangers are hurting, but they're going to toss Deva Rogues a bone. Would be happy to see but wouldn't surprise me if they pass on it: Int-secondary rogues. Best suited for other books: I can see a handful of powers and a PP or two, but considerably more poison options strike me as fodder for AV2, as consumables fall under that purview. |
| #16mkillMay 13, 2009 12:14:43 | Actually, I really don't want to see yet another cycle of "XY Power" books. I'd like to see some other angle, like a book centered on races or roles, or campaign themes. R&D should try to evolve the RPG, not recycle ad infinitum. IF we see Martial Power 2, I'd like to see: General
Fighter
Ranger
Rogue
Warlord
Example for racial power: Low Kick - Fighter Attack 1 Encounter ✦ Martial Standard Action - Melee unarmed Attack: Str +2 vs. Ref, increase to Str +4 at 11th and Str +6 at 21st level Hit: 2d6 + Str damage and the target is knocked prone. If the attack is a critical hit, the target is dazed (save ends). Halfling: Against creatures of medium or larger size, you can score a critical hit with this power on a roll of 18 to 20. |
| #17brotherjgizmoMay 13, 2009 12:37:01 | I really don't expect new builds for the classes, possibly some new powers. I really expect new feats, PP's and ED. |
| #18bone_nagaMay 13, 2009 13:47:41 | A shield fighter Some unarmed/brawling type powers (maybe with an off-hand for an einhander style or with kicks). Some grappling...er...grab powers/options. Some type of combo system would be cool, although I'm not sure how they would pull it off. 3e had a good one (Masters of Arms) but in 4e you don't get multiple basic attacks in one round. I wouldn't want to see some clumsy system that required you to track your attacks from one round to the next. I guess maybe the only real way to implement it would be with new powers. Maybe multiple low damage attacks that deal extra damage or inflict status effects if they all hit. If any attack misses, the combo is screwed up and your action is over. Anyways, I can always hope. Powers or feats or something to support iconic styles of fighting like johnthedm suggested. A rear/ranged warlord build. INT rogues. More weapon-specific powers. |
| #19bone_nagaMay 13, 2009 13:49:34 | And one other thing that I know will make a lot of you groan, but bear with me... Release it in pdf format. |
| #20Darkwolf_BloodsbaneMay 13, 2009 15:46:52 | Support for Picks. |
| #21tanngnostMay 13, 2009 17:14:30 | I think we'll see feats designed for the small races, something like an improved melee training for the wee ones, that lets them pick an ability score and use it for attack rolls (but not damage rolls) with martial encounter and daily powers. |
| #22johnthedm7000May 13, 2009 22:00:38 | The last thing we need from MP 2 is more options for dualwielders-it'd be nice to get some options for people who use only one weapon (and no shield) and those who go 2 handed or sword and board. The idea of a versatile fighter build (either one focusing on versatile weapons, or a "generalist" fighter" is a good one-someone who's mastered some tricks with every type of weapon, but is a master of none.... Some more ideas for fighting style feats: Tree and Stone Style: Benefits for wielding a Pick and an Axe at the same time Fullsword Style: Benefits for using a 2 handed sword Half-Sword Style: Benefits for using a versatile sword (or if they want to make it more general, all versatile weapons). |
| #23Drax_HoakMay 14, 2009 10:45:16 | I second the suggestions to give more love to two-handed weapons and versatile weapons. I am so sick of dual-wielding. |
| #24undraveMay 14, 2009 13:30:52 | I've been wanting a versatile weapon user for a while. They could flavor it as a samurai build! Depending on if you wield your weapon with two hands or one you get a different bonus so you can choose which one to use at which moments. There should be a WIS Warlord build, so that Dwarves can make decent warlords too. |
| #25mrpagodaMay 14, 2009 17:07:35 | I agree with DaButcher. I want my awesome brawler fighter. non of this fancy magic monk crap. I want an unarmed guy that can take damage and still whoop the *beep* out of you. In 3.5 i had a grappler made from fighter and in 4.0 i have been missing my iconic character. |
| #26Tharag_BoccMay 14, 2009 18:43:08 | I agree with DaButcher. I could appreciate a true brawler build. Though fighter can already pull off the concept of reasonably well (or at least my spiked gauntlet wearing tempest fighter thinks so). In the likely event that the monk multiclass feat grants the monk's unarmed strike class feature it will become easier to build almost any weapon using class as a brawler. At this point the thing that is most missing from the brawler build is grappling. The Improved Grab feat is a great start, but what we need now are more powers that involve grabbing. Grabbing is, in my opinion a great defender mechanic that has yet t be fully exploited. We've already got fighter powers that are boosted when wielding a particular weapon, so how about some fighter powers that are boosted while grabbing the target. A new at-will that is the grab action plus damgae might be nice as well. |

Grab powers like Garrote Grip? (PHB 123) But for fighters? Rockin'. |
| #28undraveMay 14, 2009 19:26:39 | And then when you're at the epic level you can go start a bar brawl...with Kord and Morradin!! EPIC INN FIGHTING!! |
| #29Nivek_LoneshadowMay 15, 2009 6:17:59 | I must add my support for . . . INT Rogues - I build a 4e rogue and left INT the lowest stat and it just doesn't feel right to me now. TWF Rogue - Yes!! I'll never figure out why the most Dex based class does have the best potential for dual wielding some sleek agile weapons with deadly accuracy. Plus to add to both of the concepts I will repeat once again that the Unfettered by Monte in AE was my favorite class and I would love to see something that allows me to play a similar concept. As for other hopes I would like to see more mixed power PPs. Stuff like the Arcane trickster (martial & Arcane) Maybe a Samuria build that combines martial and the powers that I would have called Ki till the day it died ![]() |
