A couple of ideas/predictions I've had: In the Ki power source, some sort of "channeler" either as an optional class option or as a class(doubt it). The channeler is able to channel energy, kinetic, arcane, shadow, divine, primal, what have you. So if the party's mage casts a big daily on the channeler, the channeler could redirect it where they wish, effectively doubling the range of the power. Of course they'd take damage from channeling the energy of course. This could be, maybe a monk "meditation", like a Barbarian rage, which is activated via the Monk's dailies. An aspect of the channeling power is the fact that the harder you are hit, the harder you hit back. Take damage of course... make a very masochistic character. It would be awesome in a striker sense, having this character no monster will hit for fear of a counter-attack, and able to flank and pummel almost at will. Huge in a tactical sense. And uh... I'm tapped for the moment in terms of interesting new mechanics. I honestly could not have predicted the Avenger's awesome two roll mechanic. But the math works perfectly, and puts it right in the striker bar. Oh, wait, other ideas! In the Elemental power source: maybe an elementalist build, that you pick an element, and that element's powers have are a bit more focused on a specific role than the others, like fire in striker, water as controller, and so on. The Elementalist would have that element essentially beginning to make up their very body, like earth forming a basic skin over the Elementalist. The powers would feature controlling this... 'skin' into temporary weapons and attacks. And you could sacrifice that skin for your dailies, which would be appropriately big and splashy, like fireballs out of the ground and so on. It would take a bit for that skin to come back. Any ideas? |

I also had this idea for my Pyromage class where you would have this sort of 'stance' (you either surround your weapon or armor with flames depending on the build) you can do a certain times per encounter that grants you a bonus, and that feature gives you either a bonus to certain powers, needs it to give you those or needs to be 'spent' (i.e. turn off) to use big dailies. This sort of added ressource management aspect could be fun. |

Possibly the classes daily powers will be linked to expending psionic focus, much the same way that the barbarian's daily powers are linked to his rage. At least one ki class will use initiative in a new way. This will be designed to model duels in anime and eastern film, where the combatants stare down each other motionlessly, then attack in a sudden flurry. The shadow power source will resemble the shadowcaster's suite of powers mixed with the shadowdancer and the shadow hand swordsage. Incarnum will not make a comeback for a very long time, if at all. Light armor and no armor will be a trend in the Ki power source. Less certain predictions: The Elocator will be a class. The Monk will be broken up into two classes. One will fight exclusively unarmed. The other will mix traditional monk material with entirely different tropes. The Illusionist will not be a full class. Instead, illusion magic will be common throughout the shadow power source. One class may use more illusions than the others, but its purvey will be more broad than just illusions. |
