Hi,

Not sure if anyone else has posted on this, but

here it goes...

Would really like to see miniature packs that

are included with, or could be purchased separately,

that contain all of the bad guys that are necessary

to run the adventures that Wizards puts out for sale.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Sure they'd be awesome... but I don't know If I'd really want to pay like $150 for the Keep on the Shadowfell set!

That adventure, which is basically the starter adventure for 4E, has 135 monsters in it. (some are reused, ie 1 encounter might have 8 zombie rotters, and another has 12, in this case, I would consider that you need 12 zombie rotters)

Assuming most sculpts and paints are at a 'common' level, that comes to about $1 for each common, then you want some nicer 'rare' paints and sculpts for important characters like Iron Tooth or Kalarel and the Gelatinous cube - these would be at minimum $2.50 - bringing the whole shebang to around $150/$160 - AKA too rich for most people's blood - at least all at once.

You're definitely NOT the first person to suggest this, and while it's not a bad idea in principle, it's really tough to imagine a cost-effective way to do it. Such a product would cost quite a bit to produce and buy, the size of the product would prevent stores from carrying very many units, and the cost would keep a lot of people from buying it. Additionally, large non-random packs like this could serious destabilize the already tenuous niche market for the exist minis line.

My suggestion is that instead of minis, WotC should publish adventure packs with thick cardboard counters instead, similar to the ones in the starter set, or the ones produced by Fiery Dragon Games, except with official artwork. (Think of Dungeon Tiles, but with monsters instead of rooms.) This product would be a lot smaller, simpler to produce, and cheaper for everyone, and quality counters would still be in great shape well after the initial encounter is over. Package it with the adventure and then we're golden.*

*Still could undercut minis sales though, which makes me think they'll never do this until after they stop producing minis.

I'd prefer that the adventures have monster markers made of boardgame chipboard, similar to the ones that were packaged in the starter set, but having regular and bloodied sides instead of being a different monster on either side.

I agree that it would be hard for WotC to justify combining an adventure with all the miniatures needed to run it.

However, would it be possible to have one or two series of delves (3 encounters each) packaged with 4 to 6 miniatures.  The miniatures included could be the "boss" or "lieutenant" miniatures while the rest of the monsters in the delves would be those that are readily accessible from previous miniature products.

(Slightly off-topic, responding to the post about punch-out tokens like in the starter set)

I've thought for a while now that WotC should bring back the skirmish game, but with collectible cardboard pieces instead of real minis. They could sell them at the same price as they sell magic cards, and probably move a much greater volume than with expensive minis.

I agree with this idea myself.  I think a boxed set super adventure at least could include some dungeon tiles and battle mats for the big encounter areas to supplement the main dungeon tiles products and also have miniatures for key, lead NPC characters, especially the main villain, included in the set.  It probably would only work with a big deluxe boxed and might be harder to justify for run of the mill adventures.  Then again, they could make an effot to consciously start including a lot of these big NPCs as rares at least in their regular sets.  But I do like the idea of an all in one set.
