This seems really strange. 75% of my money paid for D&D stuff has gone to miniatures... is there any more word on this? Plastic Miniatures: “D&D minis were produced in China, less cost-effective to do it now, so they discontinued Minis (per se) but they will still produce plastic minis for some of their existing products (like Legend of Drizzt boardgame etc). #2 Kalnaur Feb 02, 2011 4:01:27	There have been several miniatures threads, mostly started in the General 4th ed forum by a very specific poster.  Generally, through reference to the price of plastic (which was quoted somewhere as an official reason), as well as how the product was performing overall, they said they might go back to it when it was more feasible to do, but as it stands they are just not making money from that product line.  At least not enough to continue it in it's current model and form.
#3 thax Feb 02, 2011 7:02:14	Also keep in mind that the special sets, like the Beholder set out right now, are still being made. I don't thinik this is the end for minis, though, just a bump in the road. There are some of the D&D sets in Heroscape at the moment, though that product has also been stopped. I think that future products, when it is started again, will be unpainted minis sold in packs, perhaps with painted minis for the heroes. Here is what I would do... Have 10 packs of monsters, unpainted, with some of the more uncommon monsters be combined with the multi mobs (8 goblins with two other less used MED creatures, or 5 kobolds with a Large creature) Have a hero set of prepainted figures, by race, with four figures. (Four -Insert race here - , a Wizard, Fighter, Rogue and Cleric) I am sure this would be looked at and bought more than the Random packs that no longer have a Mini Game to sell it.
#4 modern_iconoclast Feb 02, 2011 7:39:39	I don't think unpainted minis would make the product more appealing. Sure there are those professional painters that have years of Warhammer experience out there, but I know most of my friends and I bought them because we could play with them out of the box without putting endless hours trying to place small blotches of paint in a pinhole size eye of an unpainted eladrin wizard. Even if the paint was terrible according to some, it was better than what I could do. That certainly was the buying factor for me and what made me buy WotC minis instead of say Reaper or another make.
#5 thax Feb 02, 2011 7:53:02	The main thing is cost. Unpainted minis would be cheaper for Wizards to make, a cut in labor and shipping, and Monsters, to me, doesn't need the paint as much as the heroes do. I can see painting one or two minis for characters or NPC's, though.

So could this be a golem minis set?  Possibly an exarch of the Raven Queen special figure?  The terminology of "new threats" seems to suggest an encounter group or something of the sort while "the best set of golems I've seen in a good, long while" seems to suggest a golem's minis set.  I think its just my hopefulness for more minis getting the best of me, however, if anyone has any other insight that would be great.  Sadly, there is nothing new listed on the upcoming minis product page.
